Standupper from hell--Stef Kotsonis/CNN
มุมมอง 1327 หลายเดือนก่อน
We were doing a story on Iraqi villagers (I don't recall they were nomads, despite the file title) who were suddenly living on Kuwaiti land when the borders were redrawn after the Gulf War. It was impossible to get the standupper done. The dry desert air kept taking the moisture out of my mouth whenever I spoke. The local fellows kept coming up to talk to me as I was recording. Our driver becam...

Battle for Vukovar. Serb forces close in on Croat fighters and civilians

November 11, 1991 CNN correspondent Stefan Kotsonis, cameraman Rich Brooks and soundman Mike Raye went in to Vukovar in the final days of the seige. Serb forces led us through destroyed back yards and homes to a church where Serb forces were trading fire with Croat fighters across the graveyard. As each of us darted across the lane to the church, we heard the fizz of a sniper's bullet go past o...

New Orleans: Street band on a Frenchmen Street corner Friday night
มุมมอง 1142 ปีที่แล้ว
On the way to see Delfayo Marsalis. A hot night in June. A band on a street corner hammering out Jazz Crusaders classic. The microphone on this little phone didn’t capture the power of the music. They rocked that street corner. Anything else I want to say is cliche -eg, how this is not ‘roots music’ for the kids all around them, they’re not ‘discovering their musical past. This is music present...
War reporters let off steam- Zagreb, Croatia.
มุมมอง 782 ปีที่แล้ว
Foreign reporters, producers and ‘local hires’ gather in a suite in the Zagreb Intercontinental Hotel to party. Partly it’s standard behavior for journalists, but a lot of the energy there is releasing the tension that comes with injecting themselves into a dangerous, angry, confusing time in other people’s worlds. This was during the Croatia-Serbia phase of the dissolution of Yugoslavia. I rem...

Just learned about Moth from new doc from Lawless. She really lived life to the fullest.
Coming here just learned of Moth from new doc from Lawless. What a life she had!
Betty, the Lawless doc comes out in theaters and VOD November 22. I’m curious how you heard about it. Are you seeing reviews or publicity? Thx.
Putting nationalism and religion aside, Greek and Turkish culture are the same.
Kako ste, Darko? I have to look to see if I have more. Vukovar was a very dark time. I saw awful things. When the battle was finished, I was shocked how many civilians emerged from their basements, grey, frightened shadows. The fear in their eyes. I could go on. I will look for more, but most of the footage we sent back to CNN -or BBC, ITN, etc if you worked for them. Hvala.
Hello. I know it's not the topic for this video clip but do you have more video footage of Vukovar ? Those videos are excellent material from 33 years ago. Greetings from Croatia.
Thank you for sharing this. Much appreciated.
Hahaha 30 000 Serbian forces against 2000 Croats and needed 3 monts to win hahaha what pussy army

@peroperic1307 i uploaded this vukovar story too [imperfectly]
Hi! Do you have more videos from Vukovar?
I do have a couple of other stories on dvd, ripping them to youtube is a pain, because the app i havew is very bad. but i'll try. in the meantime, there is a bit from vukovar in this promo reel: th-cam.com/video/-dI7EXk5CB0/w-d-xo.html
PS: Vukovar was just awful. Horrible.
@@stefkotsonis As a native of Vukovar and current resident of the city, I would greatly appreciate any new video
@@peroperic1307 the i have questions for you! is the city completely rebuilt? are there serbs and croats living well together --or just croats? i went in during the siege a couple of times. once, we drove through the corn to sneak in and join the croat forces. the second time we we in with the serbian irregulars. it was not pretty.. the irregulars were just killers. the serbs took us to a church where they were shooting at croat fighters on the other side of the graveyard. as we ran across the street to the church, each of us heard the fizz of a sniper bullet go past our ears. the serbs were shooting through the church windows, and the cornered croat fighters were shooting back . the serbs had a big box of bullets on the alter with the virgin mary looking down with her arms spread. they were refilling their clips with those bullets and going back to the windows to shoot. strange. a british journalist found out we'd found 'some amazing pictures,' as we used to say and went in with his crew and he got a bullet in the back and lost a kidney. we went back a couple of days later, as all those poor people who had been hiding in their basements for months emerged, hands up, their skin white from months of darkness --and now, fear. when we weren't around, there was a lot of killing and raping. it was very sad.
i uploaded another story. unfortunately, the dvd ripper act i use is terrible, and the end of this story is missing: studio.th-cam.com/users/videouonkd1qrnnE/edit
