Archimedean screw water pump in action (revisiting same location 5 years later)
In 2017 I made a video of these archimedean screw water pumps in action in Wangen an der Aare, Switzerland. As the video has attracted quite a bit of attention over the years I revisited the location 5 years later in August 2022 and made this follow up video.

I revisited this location 5 years later and made a follow up to this video here: th-cam.com/video/4AEBY31v6hs/w-d-xo.html This Archimedean screw water pump station is located in Wangen an der Aare, Switzerland. Its purpose is to pump water from a small stream up into a large river. this was needed because the small stream sits about 3 meters lower than the river does.

This was a Dji phantom 2 battery which contained a dead cell making it unable to be recharged, therefore we had to dispose of it which we did by putting a nail through it to kill all of the cells. if you plan on doing this make sure to be very careful and have a bucket of sand nearby should anything go wrong.

Looks nothing like an actual bird when slowed down and zoomed in. Its nothing like I've ever seen before. maybe it was even a UFO!! i would be really glad if anyone could tell me what that actually was that almo...

    Congratulations. You captured a cicada. It looks unfamiliar because of blur and pixelation, but it's definitely a bug of some kind. Black like that, it could also be a cricket, or even a bee. But based on the shape and taking into account the high-contrast lighting, my money's on a cicada.

    Really inefficient. The water leaks around every flight. The flighting should be enclosed

    • @wiredforstereo
      @wiredforstereo 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Screw pumps are very efficient, and can handle a variety of flow rates with the same efficiency. Sure, they look messy, but that is irrelevant to efficiency, only the required power vs flow matters.

    • @karlnoben8199
      @karlnoben8199 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Blind FreddyIndeed, when it goes up, the water doesn't fill all the flight around (to do so, you need it to be leakproof from the bottom, which needs extra bottom waterlevel control and make it more complex to maintain, for instance when something gets stuck in it). This may not be necessary as the power required to lift the water is correlated to the weight/volume of displaced water and th the difference of levels. So yes, it moves less water than with a fully enclosed pipe, put it requires proportionnally less power and is easyer to maintain

    • @jjsjapp2732
      @jjsjapp2732 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Indeed the outer perimeter has a gap line that will leak, as any atmospheric pump wil do. Some screws do have a rubber lining at the perimeter. More important is that water inside the screw should not have a higher level than the inner shaft. Otherwise water would leak over the shaft in a spiral, without making much impact to the rotor. In the atmospheric screw itself the water speed is zero. It just stands still like in an elevator, waiting while lowering, until the end is reached. Just the weight, not the speed-impact of water thrives the wheel..This is why these screw generators are much-much more fish friendly than turbines that uses pressure and high waterspeed impacts..

    This seems a bit strange for most of us coming here to find how to remove or replace a caravan window. 1. Why reason the water if you're just replacing the window anyway. 2. There is no video or discussion about the steps to remove the old window and fit the new one. I think most of us are ok with rolling a hole into a window and removing tape from a window.

    • @lukaslindemann319
      @lukaslindemann319 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      to answer your questions: 1. draining the water made removing the old window a lot easier due to the reduced weight. 2. I never made this video as a how to or guide to show how to replace a caravan window, at the time the main reason why I made it was to test my new camera. Many thanks for your comment :)

      becasue it is a thick crop they won't do that as the rows will be too big for the baler, well it's just easier with small rows for the baler and small rows make for a better bale, especially for horse hay
