    I am wondering if the height of the jump is playing an important role in this same scenario? What if one can jump 60m/s, given that there is enough space in the train so that no external force acts on it. Will the person still land in the same spot? Thanks in advance for your answer.

      As long as there is no external force in x direction,you will land in same position...now if you jump to high there may be wind which gives some resistance

  • @swedeepadhikari951

    I really don’t get this as I compare myself jumping on the top of the train.. Ingot answers like air resistance but I don’t think that would be correct what if There is no roof in it??

  • @swedeepadhikari951
    @swedeepadhikari951 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    What happens if you jump on the roof of the train. Is air resistance so much that it will act as an external force to stop our forward moving velocity?? But what if we are moving at a lower speed like 1km/ hr?? I mean in that speed will there be the strong air resistance??

    • @dragonking1051
      @dragonking1051 ปีที่แล้ว

      You won’t have a moving velocity if you jump on the roof because there is nothing above the train to keep the air inside so while you are in the air the the train will travel causing you to land in a different position. The reason why it doesn’t work inside the train is the because the air inside the train is also traveling with the train. The air is what keeps you moving with the train when u jump inside. But that same air isn’t there when u jump on the roof. The air is not enclosed within the train it’s outside it

    I listened to an audiobook copy of “I contain Multitudes” by Ed Yong chronicling the history of microbiology and the modern invention of the microscope, and one of the chapters talks about how his entire collection of refined high-quality custom glass microscopes he bequeathed to the Royal Society in London “disappeared” in transit. I’ve been so curious ever since what those lost microscopes he honed in his life were like. Apparently he was able to improve the designs over the course of his life to a pretty amazing little machine with incredible increases of optical power.

    What happens if the train stops the exact moment you jump? You would hit the back of the train, correct?

    • @meriSTEMEducation
      @meriSTEMEducation 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Great question Cesar! You would keep moving forward and may hit the front of the train. At that point of being in the air, you have forward velocity. The train's brakes apply force to the train to stop it, but that force isn't applied to you.
