The Cure for G.A.S (Gear Acquisition Syndrome)
Great video 👍🏻 May I know what camera did you use for filming?
Thank you. I used the DJI Osmo Pocket 3.
Thx for video. I bought an XM5 and I'm not satisfied with the digital stabilization, especially if I'm recording an interview or conversation. The interlocutor's face is half sharp. It's not a problem with autofocus. Face contours are torn, even a little wavy. It seems to me that it is some digital/electronic or software problem. It seems as if it is constantly changing the resolution from higher quality to lower resolution and vice versa. It is relatively good outside during the day
I think this camera really needs an OIS lens or preferably a gimbal for video if its not on a tripod or at least a monopod.
great insights on the photos and great comparision and specially great videography. best video ever stumbled
Thank you, I appreciate it.
Great summary mate, really appreciated this video!
Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it!
I own one and for how I shoot it's well worth the money. Picture quality for the price is very good to excellent. It's not a professional lens by any stretch but for a hobbyist on a budget it's a bargain.
I've been happy with it too - it's an awesome budget zoom - especially for the price.
Rly nice video. Nice black & white photos.
Thank you I am glad you liked them 😊
What a professional review - and a quality camera lens!
Thanks! It’s a great lens for the price! I enjoy using it!
Any flagship smartphone is still better 😊than
Smart Phones are great but with their tiny sensors they rely on computation photography to recreate the scene or out of focus bokeh. Real lenses on larger sensors will still give you a much more cinematic real look and with advances in AI tracking and auto focus and faster burst rates will beat a Smart Phone any day.
@ i believe that what you wrote is true if we talk about camera for 2500~ not under 1k
Great review! Made me even more excited to get mines!
It’s a great little camera. Hope you enjoy it. Thanks for watching.
Iphone has powerful processor. Dont u compare with a digicam. Unfair😂
Yes true lol, but Digicams produce a more nostalgic look due to the imperfections and lack of dynamic range - it’s not as clinical as an iphone which is mostly computational. It’s not like film either but something in between. Like with anything it’s personal preference - you either like it or you don’t, I guess. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Could have been a Ricoh replacement, but not with that flip screen.
Just don’t flip the screen cause the Ricoh GR iii is fixed as well. I have tried street photography with it and it’s alright, even with the fujifilm xc 15-45 kit lens but the zoom noises are annoying on it. The little pancake 27mm f2.8 would be better if you like the 40mm focal length. Electronic shutter is better for street as the XM5 has a noisy mechanical shutter, unfortunately, compared to the Ricoh GR iii or Fujifilm X100Vi.
@ I think the x-e5 coming out this 2025 will be the better option. Yes we could leave the screen alone and use it when we want to, as well as protect the screen by closing it on itself. But for a street photo enthusiast it could have done without the floppy. The world doesn’t revolve around me and I know that haha. But it would have been nice to have THIS small of a camera with a screen similar to any of the xt lines or x-e4 (which I have and is my fave fujifilm camera).
Anyone , how will be the video output might be while using this camera with gimbal?
Very stable but turn off both OIS and DIS.

Great review, very comprehensive. Refreshing to see someone who doesn’t criticize it for not being something it was never supposed to be in the first place. Yes people, this camera is not a leica competitor, it’s for vloggers.
Thank you! I found this camera to be amazing for the price and does everything I need. A lot of people say but there is DJI Osmo Pocket 3 which is better but it’s still only limited to Vlogging with its fixed wide lens but with XM5 you can use any focal length for more creativity. Thanks for watching and your comment.
well, it's especially not for vloggers because the autofocus it's not better, with this camera can do serious reportage or documentary movie. This camera gives beautiful high-quality shots but they don't give stable focus on digital stabilisation when shooting indoors - what's the problem, say that? I'm sure Fuji will soon fix that problem
❤it so compact , versatile and Digital.. cool demo of photos and video .. I am a content creator.. This one sounds great 😊
I thought so too! Especially for the price. Thanks for watching and commenting
I love the original XA too! I’m old so I remember when they were first released and I was a teenage camera nut. They were too expensive or me, almost as much as the Olympus OM-1 I think. But I finally got a used one 15 years ago before the prices went crazy. The photos aren’t Leica quality or anything, but they definitely have their own character and charm, and are sharp enough for me. I like the slight vignetting in the corners. Use that wrist strap though, because they’re so little and easy to fumble and drop.
You’re right the lens on this camera has loads of character and is quite sharp like most dzuiko lenses. I also love my Olympus OM1n and the 50mm f1.4 such a tiny pro level slr and still great value. Thanks for watching and commenting.
Enjoyed the pics . Peeps in flow
Thank you 🙏
Can you set it to where the time and date are not watermarked onto the photos?
Yes you can turn it off, I set it so it would be easier to tell find the Kodak Pics.
💜💜
Your video is really well made, and I like some of those cool videos and photos. I just heard about the camera these few days and ordered it. I already have three Nikon cameras and was thinking of getting the Fujifilm XM5. But I don't have the cash, and the fact that this camera is so much cheaper and offers something different makes me want to try it. Sometimes, it's not just about the specs but what you can get from that camera. Can't wait to play with it!
Thank you! It’s a great little camera, certainly surprised me for the price compared to the Fujifilm xm5, I have been eyeing that camera too but yeah after adding a lens it becomes pricey. I already have too many cameras! Thanks for the sub, appreciate it.
I’m three Canon camera body’s in and one Sony body I might have a problem however, I use everyone for something paid work projects or vacation photos thanks for sharing
They are tools for you and you enjoy cameras like myself - I have bought and sold the same cameras many times. Just keep changing my mind or missing them idk🤷♂️ they are an obsession haha
good video! I have this camera too and I’m so happy) do you use auto mode or manual mode?
Hi, Thank you! I mainly use Auto mode, Macro, and flash. It's amazing how the older sensors are still good in 2024 and so pocketable compared to most modern cameras.
❤The Glasshouse mountains . Love the spring colours from the Kodak 🎉
It's an enchanting place and a cool little camera! Thanks for watching.
Comparison with SMENA 8M now!!!
I have never heard of that one, but sounds interesting. Where do I buy one ☝️ of those?
E-bay, Etsy... Smena 8m is a small but awesome 35 mm half frame camera from the soviet union, cheap as well...
Cool review!
Thank you 🙏
I have both. The pentax is so much better. You can do more and shoot in more places than with the ektar.
That is not an hard guess
Nice pics, I wish the audio was clearer.
Thanks Yes, sorry about audio. Realised I didn't plug my Mic in to the camera lol. Rookie mistake. I am a photographer but learning video!
🤝
Love it, awesome detail 🙌
Glad you found it useful! Thanks for watching 😀
Прекрасная фирма Олимпус. Фотоаппараты удобны в эксплуатации. В свое время к меня был Олимпус ОМ1n. Очень хороший...
Yes I also have an Olympus OM1n in both black and silver. Fantastic little SLRs and the D.Zuiko lenses are very sharp and compact. Thanks for your comment.
Firstly, thank you for making this video to help a lot of us who have doubts on the matter. I tend to think sensor size has nothing to do with DOF as the image pane was simply cropped. However, when I tried street photography with my full-frame M10 and an APSC Leica CL, the results tell a slightly different story. I think @alexshabotenko7228 is right, some adaptors allow the lens focus past infinity, that makes the DOF scale inaccurate (particularly the type of adaptors that allow close focusing) .
Thank you for watching and leaving a comment. Yes I do believe adapters play a part in the accuracy of DOF scale on lenses. I was mainly interested in whether I could achieve ‘acceptable’ focus for my street photography using FF manual lenses and found that it the results were much better if you limited focus to a certain range say 2-5m rather than using infinity.
It has a leaf shutter, that’s why it is so quiet. The leaf shutter also allows a flash sync speeds up to 1/4000 sec. This is a unique feature that is not found in any camera that uses a focal plane shutter. So a leaf shutter is an advantage for some photographers.
Yes true. It’s even quieter than the 100V!
I quite agree, DoF scale is not very helpful, and not only because of the sensor size (which I doubt matters at all). It depends on the lens and on the adaptor that you use. For example, most adaptors that I have used made the lens "overshoot" the point of infinity, that is, the infinity came at, say, 10 m or 20 m. Or if you want to focus on something located, say, 7 m from you, you need to set the lens at 5 m, and so on.
All cameras are point and shoot. Thats why the photography these days is garbage.
There are still some flowers if you pull the weeds out. Thanks for your comment.
The easiest cure? Remove yourself from social media, including TH-cam, cut up all cards and only keep 1 (debit card). And yes, remove those paying Apps from your phone. Use what you have now and nothing else.
Absolutely 👍 but too extreme for me I tried it. I need to get my adrenaline fix elsewhere. Minimalism and deprivation just don’t work for me. Thanks for watching and your comment.
Definitely got it, I love them all!
Yeah same. I feel guilty about not giving some of them enough use 🫣. Thanks for watching and your comment.
I just need one or two more lenses I swear!
That’s exactly what I tell my wife haha. Thanks for your comment.
Liked and subscribed! This video sums up my GAS so well haha!
Thank you, very much appreciated. I am far from cured, just in therapy haha!
I think it’s ok to have a few pieces that suit you best. A little variety is good IMHO. I keep about 10 cameras in my collection.
Absolutely! especially if its for work or you enjoy different types of photography.
I’ve got the bug too… ugh!
Yeah! the struggle is real 😩
