Well, I guess it all boils down to what you want to do. For me, I just want an intuitive and easy to use _video editor_. It has to be robust and lightweight enough to run on an 8GB 4-core Intel i5 Lenovo Thinkpad. I'm not skillful enough nor have the time and desire to make a Hollywood blockbuster so special effects and complex color rendering are only secondary consideration. Kdenlive ticks the above-mentioned boxes for me even though I have a lifetime license for DaVinci Resolve Studio. The deal breaker for me is this; Most of my videos are shot with a DJI Osmo Action 4 camera. The camera generates a tiny .LRF (Low Resolution File) at the same time as the .MP4 file. The .LRF file is primarily used for in-camera video playback. Kdenlive can use the .LRF file as a proxy file if it is in the same folder as the .mp4 files. This is a God send because you no longer need to generate any proxy files! All you need to do is to tell Kdenlive to use external proxy files! Of-course you can do the same in Resolve but the process is convoluted to say the least. You first have to create a sub-folder in your main video folder for the proxy files in my case, the .LRF files. You then have to rename the extension to .mp4. You then have to tell Resolve that the proxy media folder exists. Yuk. BTW, Kdenlive also support low res proxy files from GoPro, Sony and Akaso.
