Best Way to Polish Bass Guitar Frets | Steel Wool Vs. Frine Vs. Polishing Paper
มุมมอง 7K2 ปีที่แล้ว
I took a stab at comparing different methods of polishing the frets while displaying how to polish frets on a Squier Jazz Bass. Steel wool was a classic though controversial method. Frine fret polish kit from Music Nomad had a strong showing. Last was polishing paper from Zona. Thanks for watching. 0:00 Intro and Different Methods 1:33 Masking the Fingerboard 2:30 A Big Problem With Steel Wool ...

Removing the string tension off the saddles is the key!

I think I need a longer screw on my G string. It's just hanging on to the saddle, when intonated.

Just masking tape your pickups. Apply 0000 steel wool to frets AND fingerboard, use a magnet/paper towel to remove the residue. Apply oil of your choice (I have come back around to linseed oil after about 40 years). Those scratches are NOTHING!! They are so fine, it's ridiculous and your "heal" it back with the oil. THAT from a player of 62+ years.

Great explanation, but how would I know if it is in tune when I only use Guitar Tuna as a tuner.?

Hi!! Did you change to a thinner string gauge? Many times the fault is fixed by changing the gauge of the strings that Fender uses by default (045-.105) the string is vibrating inside the nut because of a thinner gauge.

Whoever thought steel wool is the go to thing got rocks in their head just get a Scotch-Brite pad if you need to get some serious grime out and other than that just constantly rubbing with a cloth with the right oils and cleaners will make everything okay. As for the fret polish stick to the frine Music nomad stuff that works.

IMO steel wool has no place on the guitar. I'd suggest a different approach: 1) Use micromesh pads instead of steel wool (they are washable and re-usable) 2) Use fret guards - by the handles - to polish the frets with micro mesh 3) Use fret guards and cloth, or dremel wheel, to buff the frets with the paste

Easy way to remember this is forgot all the shortening amd lengthening shit if you're looking at the tuner and the note is right you tight if the note is left you loosen
