Seeking Solitude - Rory Hunter
Australia
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 18 ส.ค. 2020
Hi!
I'm Rory.
Join me as I take a "time out" from life in the time of COVID for an adventure across the seas.
The reasons for me deciding to sail from Hong Kong to Australia solo, non-stop are deeply personal but what draws me are the words of Thoreau and the healing power of nature and solitude.
“I went to the woods because I wished to live deliberately, to front only the essential facts of life, and see if I could not learn what it had to teach, and not, when I came to die, discover that I had not lived.”
I need to mend my weary soul, reflect on the remarkable experiences I’ve had and contemplate the man I want to become.
This channel is the story of my journey home.

Episode Seven - Homecoming
Homecoming. There’s really nothing quite like it. Particularly when you’ve worked so hard to get there. The simplicity of familiarity. Of Family. Of Belonging. A cultural connection to something bigger than one’s self.
The moment I saw land, saw Australia, after sailing 4000Nm is one I’ll never forget. After 37 days at sea I had not only made it home safely, I was given the chance to start again. To look within and shine a light on the pain, the truth, the mistakes and the potential that’s inside us all. Out there on the open ocean I found forgiveness, love and acceptance of all that I am.
An inner peace I’d forgotten existed.
But while I thought what I needed was to be alone, I realised its human connections that make us whole, that bring us happiness and let our hearts soar. A simple truth I’d forgotten in my quest to become a successful entrepreneur.
A truth I now hold as the keystone of my being.

Episode Two - Pacific Dreams
มุมมอง 1.2K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Sunshine has a canny knack of lifting one's spirits and in this episode, I find great joy in learning the rhythm of life at sea thanks to improved weather conditions. Slowing down. Breathing. Being. I also fall in love with the mighty, majestic Pacific and the beauty of sailing on the open ocean.
Episode One - Sailing across the South China Sea in challenging conditions
มุมมอง 6K4 ปีที่แล้ว
Casting off my mooring lines from Royal Hong Kong Yacht Club as I set sail on a solo adventure non-stop to Australia. A journey that will cover over 4000Nm of open ocean. Winds of over 45knts make for a rather interesting introduction to life at sea, alone, amongst the elements.
Very easy informative... ..... . ... .. . . .
Awesome stuff! Whats been happening since?
This video is so underrated it deserves millions….just filled with so much positivity!! Thanks for the mood boost ❤
Bee safe travels
Where is the best place in the equator/doldrums to anchor My mobile floating tropical island? As far as safest weather conditions year round / most beautiful clear water / best food growing weather year round / best fishing etc etc?
Audio mate.
Great to see a couple of years later! So many changes in a 2yr period! 👊✌️
Wowwww this is something, bro. So damn special life experience on sailing like this. Loved it.

Beautiful bro!
How mr. Rory ,how you got fuel and food in your journey
Well done sir..fantastic.. I enjoyed watching
Following, would like to see position on plotter and shots of wind speed and hull speed. We will be doing a similar trip next month, Cam Ranh to Subic, and then back to Aussie. Also interested to know what route you will take.

hard but nice sailing, how many days sailing to home?
longest 8 seconds(42sec i counted lol) of my life 😂
Great watch, well done mate.
Question, does the equator have any hurricanes - tsunamis - typhoons or dangerously large waves in the deep sea parts of the equator oceans?
Just saw your videos. Greetings from Florida, USA. Went diving out of Port Douglas several times. Great job sailing and managing all that goes with a long passage.
Nice footage, mate! Fair winds
Excellent videos. Thank you for sharing. Can you tell us the type model and year of your boat?
20years later you may not enter HONG KONG like that easy..
Gordon ramsay?
What's the music track on the opening and closing of your videos?

What kind of boat are you sailing?
Very well done. Loved watching your journey and the challenges you overcame. You are a member of a select few who put themselves in harms way to achieve their dreams. Congratulations 👏👏👏
They say that fair winds and calm seas have never produced a good sailor. Well done on this part of your journey. 🙂
Thanks Darren!
Good video. Thanks for sharing. Looks like you took it all in your stride! I was confused by the blue line going aft from the coach roof. What was this for?
I'm like, when did Gordon Ramsey start a sailing channel?
hahaha :)
A guy yapping yada yada yada in front of camera is acceptable to me if the background has beautiful blue waters.
If I die young, bury me in satin,.( A song from band perry). One of my wishlist to experience it. Maybe I could sail from Johor to Sarawak or perhaps from Semenanjung Malaysia to Sumatera Indonesia . REALLY nice boat you got there friend's. Two wheel hand steering. Nice to meet you here from Malaysia.
Well done mate, that’s definitely something you will always carry with you. That takes a lot of courage and know how. Hope all is well with you Amazing! Bravo
So you can solo sail across hemispheres against gale force winds, but you struggled to not dab your foot on the bike haha let us know if you need a hand taking her to Sydney 😂
Bellissimo, thanks mate and happy that you recovered. Thanks again for sharing with us your journey and emotions, we know you more and love more. Take care and see you soon again. Great shooting, script and editing. Ciao
Amazing, thanks mate!
Amazing journey and super beautiful report. Ciao mate!
subscriber no 60..
So this channel is done, right?
Sadly it is, though thanks for watching!
Good work Captain
What a ride mate - thanks for sharing it with us. ✌️
Thanks mate! One more full episode to go. Just need to find the time to edit it. I produced this one for a speech i'm giving today on the trip. Hope to get the last one up over the weekend
I’ve been enjoying your soundtrack in the background. Funny for the first 5 or so mins you were playing Fade out Lines - we used to play that a lot when racing here in TO. Great tuna catch mate - that must have been a great meal. Was hoping to see you make some great sushi?! How’d you end up serving it up? Is the next episode the mast one?
Thanks for the great comments bro. The next one will indeed be the final episode. Hopefully I’ll get a chance this week to pull it together.
Hahaha the dolphins!! You sounded like Wilson on castaway. So happy to see life after so long alone. Awesome mate! The blues in this vid were unreal!! Love it!
Thanks buddy!! It was quite remarkable how good it felt to have company. Any company. So far from land...
Seeking Solitude I can only imagine. 👍
Watched quite a few sailing vlogs today most had issues with audio, so let me congratulate you on getting that bit right.
Squalls-r-us! Man that must have been a downer having to face so much inconsistent weather and wind. Especially on your own - even another set of hands would be very helpful in head to wind sailing through those conditions. Looking forward to the equator crossing mate!
Man I would have loved to have you there to help me out brother
Seeking Solitude hundo P mate!!
Keep em coming mate! Enjoyed the dialogue in this episode. 👍
What a beautiful journey! Miss you bro!
Man being connected to nature is the best form of mental health therapy 100% agree! When do we get to see episode 3? 😉
