Use AI for Engineering Work! ft. @tejask
Use AI for Engineering Work!
Engineers tend to think that AI Engineering has to do something with machine learning. Tejas Kumar, Developer Relations Engineer for GenAI at @DataStax , explains that AI engineering is an entirely different discipline.
Tejas thinks the main problem with AI engineering is that it lacks a formal definition. Many people confuse it with machine learning research and engineering, but those are completely different skills.
AI engineering does not require academia, experience with machine learning models, Python, or linear algebra - it’s just applying AI to solve problems.
00:23 Talk to an API, not a ML model / Junior Dev
01:18 Not a Data Scientist or an ML Engineer / Senior Dev
01:57 Data Privacy, Security, and Ethical Concerns / CTO

Developers, Mistakes are OKAY! “I like working in the nasties and ugliest code possible that also tends to be the most important code to business,” says Arlo Belshee, fractional CTO and Distinguished Engineer with 25 years of experience in software engineering. Exactly the right person to learn from on refactoring - writing code so that it can be modified and revitalized with time. 00:40 Modify...

Observability 2.0 Explained by Jessica Kerr from @honeycombio
มุมมอง 427หลายเดือนก่อน
If you’re a junior developer, you should definitely become familiar with the concept of Observability 2.0. As Jessica Kerr from @honeycombio puts it - it's a modern way of how to make your software talk to you. The switch from Observability to Observability 2.0 is harder for senior developers because it requires forgetting the way they have been thinking about monitoring and observability so fa...

In your software development career, you're bound to make mistakes-that's just part of the learning process. However, those mistakes don't have to be catastrophic. This is where the concept of software resilience becomes crucial. As Kelly Shortridge, Senior Director of Portfolio Product Management at Fastly, says, software resilience teaches that failure is inevitable. Instead of fearing it, we...
Career Tips for Tough Times ft. @pragmaticengineer
มุมมอง 226หลายเดือนก่อน
This is the toughest job market for software engineers in the last 20 years. Job openings are scarce, and layoffs are abundant. It’s especially hard to get hired as a junior software engineer or newly graduate. On the other hand, engineering managers are the most vulnerable to layoffs and must prove they’re still valuable to companies now that their time is not spent growing teams and hiring. G...

Poor ERROR handling? Say Goodbye To Your App! ft. @abolowode
มุมมอง 813 หลายเดือนก่อน
Poor ERROR handling? Say Goodbye To Your App! Errors are inevitable, but poor error handling is what can really hurt a business. If your app keeps crashing, users will lose trust faster than you can fix the bugs. That's why it's crucial to focus on how we handle errors during a program's execution. Do we notify the user, create an alternative solution, or log the errors for later debugging? Abi...

Machine Learning Explained In 2 Minutes
มุมมอง 2303 หลายเดือนก่อน
Machine Learning Explained In 2 Minutes Machine learning is like teaching a computer tricks without the boring instructions - kind of like showing a kid cool new words and watching them figure things out on their own. But there's also a lot happening beneath the surface, like using neural networks. For instance, you can work with data using decision trees or linear regression. In this video, Lu...
Mob Programming - Not What You Think It Is!
มุมมอง 1013 หลายเดือนก่อน
Mob Programming - Not What You Think It Is! Mob programming sounds like you have 5 people doing one thing while those 5 people could do 5 things - but it’s not like that! Mob programming is a collaborative approach where a team of software engineers (mob) works on the same thing on one computer and does programming together. It has its roots in pair programming. The focus is on the quality of c...

'for juniors': agile was created with a certain idea, a mindset. Which then became a marketing-slogan despite rarely living up to this promise. It is your job, to assume the promise, not the practice. 'for seniors': the previously mentioned, your boss will not deliver on what they promise by implementing agile, all you need to know, this is not the fault of the idea. End of statement, nothing about how to fix it. 'for CTO': ignore everything that was stated above. just invest more. Sounds accurate. I am a developer and I sure feel scammed by watching this video.
