Kerosene/Oil Boiler Airlock Repair
So, the weather's just turned, the kids are shivering and the boiler has given up the ghost...
It could be a number of things, of course.
This video covers the likelihood of it being a lack-of-fuel-related airlock which is a common explanation for your boiler not starting up just as autumn kicks in. Follow the instructions here and you might save yourself a few quid in call-out fees.
Obviously, and this goes without saying, boilers are dangerous pieces of kit and if you're in any doubt about your ability to understand the process involved or aren't confident about taking something apart, then DON'T TAKE ANY CHANCES. Get an expert in and avoid harming yourself or your heating system.
That aside, this is a relatively simple process, as you'll see here. You'll just need a bit of patience..
So, here we go:
1. Turn on your heating switch (whatever usually kickstarts the boiler system).
- If this doesn't come on, then you have an electrical or fuse issue. You'll need an electrician here.
2. Go outside to your boiler - or wherever it is housed. Is it making the noise like it's trying to ignite/startup? Or is it completely dead? Press the starter button. What happens now?
- If it's completely dead, it could be the power issue mentioned in 1. I would get the experts in here.
- If it's turning over and then cutting out, then there's a good chance it's a fuel issue or airlock.
3. Check your fuel tank. Look inside. Is there any fuel/kero in it? Look around the tank, are there any visible leaks or cracks? Focus on the line out area as well.
- If the tank is cracked/leaking it'll need replacing ASAP.
- If it's just the fuel line, it can be patched up easily enough until you have time to get it replaced.
4. If it's empty, get some fuel. Most garages/petrol stations will sell it. Get the right type for your boiler!
5. Pour it in to the tank.
6. Go back to the boiler. Remove the protective casing.
7. Press the starter button. Does it startup now?
- If it starts then cuts out, as before, after you've put the fuel into the tank, then it's likely to be an airlock.
- This was caused by the boiler attempting to pull through fuel that wasn't there and it pulled air into the supply hose. We need to pull the fuel through now to eradicate the air from the supply and allow a steady flow into the burner unit.
8. Take a No. 16 Spanner. Loosen the front bolt as shown in the video.
9. Put a tray under the hose and unit to catch leaking fuel (which is about to come out in a minute).
10. Take the bolt off completely, and keep it handy.
11. Press the start button again and fuel will begin to sputter through intermittently out of the bolt hole.
- Catch all this in the drip tray.
12. The boiler will draw through for a few seconds then cut out.
- It cuts out as it doesn't have enough fuel to ignite.)
13. Repeat the process. Press start. Let the fuel sputter through.
14. You might have to do this several times - depends on the airlock 'size'. You need to do it until the fuel is steaming out of the bolt hole in a steady flow. (Or as close to a steady flow as you think you're going to get).
15. When it's coming through well, replace the bolt by hand, then tighten with the spanner.
16. This will force the fuel flow into the ignition system, and the boiler may start here straight away.
17. Tighten up the bolt and make sure there's no leaks around or below it.
18. Press start button, if the boiler is not on. It should startup here as you've eradicated the airlock.
19. If not, try it again. There could be another pocket of air.
20. If it's an airlock, eventually this method will clear it.
21. Obviously don't spend hours doing this. If it hasn't worked within 30 minutes, then I'd say there's another issue, and you'll need to get the experts in.
22. So, if it's now up and rolling - pat yourself on the back - you've saved the day.
23. Replace the protective cover.
24. Any leaked fuel in your tray - put in to the tank.
AS MENTIONED AT THE START - IF IN ANY DOUBT, GET THE EXPERTS IN. THERE'S NO POINT HARMING YOURSELF OR ANYONE ELSE AND BOILERS ARE EXPENSIVE TO REPLACE.
If this was of any use to you - PLEASE SUBSCRIBE and/or COMMENT.
Cheers.

Renault Megane II - Alarm Switch Off - Override Procedure
Does the car alarm keep going off on your Renault Megane II when you lock it up? Going off in the middle of the night? Going off when you've just walked 50 metres away? Pretty annoying, for sure. It happens for a number of reasons - according to the internet anyway. It might be faulty sensors, water in the alarm, a loose connection, something wrong with the door sensors or a battery issue in yo...

After power failure of some kind or battery change, the Renault Megane II (2005-2008) model's radio has been known to enter a security mode and stop working completely. To get it working again, you need to enter the original security code when prompted. But how to you get to this point if the radio won’t turn on? In this case, the display has also stopped working so we have to do the reset comp...

Hello, I don't understand any English. But thanks to your video and the help of the translator, I managed to fix my stereo that had not worked for 1 year. Thank you very much for the perfect explanation.
I have to do it 5 times exactly before it could override the alarm

Salvo muito❤
I have some problems with my Megane, could you help maybe?
I do everything as said and I get the beeps when I press 6 for 3 times but still nothing happens?
Hi mate, did you get your radio working? I had a lot of faffing about this time, as I forgot the wee silly things and had to watch the video several times as I was missing out steps. Once the beeping stops and I was entering the numbers I put in my code 1702 I pressed button 1 once. Button 2, eight times, button 3, once and button 4, three times, then pressed button 6 and held it till it made a tone sound, released it and repeated this two more times then it worked. The only bit the lad video was missing was the 0 procedure in my code. Hope this helps you. Davy.
@@dianedavyWell, after I repeated it 3 times mine also began to work, however the display still won't show the radio stations or anything other then the clock for some reason, not even the outside temperature or anything else. Thanks for the feedback tho, have a good day.
display is not working and radio is not working too in a renault clio 3 (2007) how to fix that?
Mes numéros sont 5807. Comment enregistrer mes numéros ? L'écran ne fonctionne pas
My numbers are 5807. How do I register my numbers? The screen does not work
I got to the stage of pressing 2+5 and power but don't hear any beeping. There is permanent 12v to the radio - and fuse for switched 12v is ok. What could it be?
I did just like you said and radio plays for 2 minutes while beeping and then turns off. I try to enter the code but every time I click any button there is this "wrong" beep. Any tips?
Same as me how do I fix it
Deleted my prev comment, but I had the same issue. Don't forget that extra button click to select the proper digit. Also it worths to try it multiple times if fails, as the clicks are not recognized maybe and the value is not updated.

Thanks mate. Had a flat battery, with your video, problem solved.
Wonderfully appreciated thanks
Tu m’as sauvé ça a marcher sur mon trafic 2😅
Is there a way to completely, permanently turn off or remove the alarm? Car alarms are completely pointless anyway.
Yep I want to know as well
@@drnh4444 I found the siren in the boot and just pulled the plug out. It was above the wheel on the left hand side and bolted to a bracket - didn't need to unbolt it, just found the plug and pulled it out.
@@ConanCnutKicker what model is your car? id love to check my own boot and disable the alarm more permanently (mine is a Renault Scenic '08)
@@karatecorgi7685 Megane II, like in the video. If you hunt around under the lining of the boot, you might find your alarm too.
@@ConanCnutKicker I found just one device that is connected with two tiny wires : green and purple... is this it?
What is the radio code T262
Thank you bro it works man.
