Texas42
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 4 ต.ค. 2018
Texas42 is the domino game of Texas (certified by the Texas Legislature)
It is a card game played with dominoes based on auction whist. There are similarities to spades, euchre, and bridge and during the bidding phase of the game it has some elements of poker in that you are reading the opponents and their bids to inform your bid (helps if you have played the opponent on numerous previous occasions to be better at gauging their believability)
A good resource for Texas42 information is texas42.com and texas42.org

Richard, I appreciate everything you are doing here on YT. However, in order for this type of video to be understandable, we really need a digital representation of the table to be displayed on screen. Who bid? What is the bid? Real-time display of the dominoes being played in time
Also, very important for understanding in this format, on-screen count of all the tricks
I agree. I think start with the same kind of format the WSOP uses: Player names and their hands on the left. Indicator to show who bidder is and what trumps are. Scores beneath each pair. Then you can have one camera as the focus on the players themselves and cut between them as necessary.
The idea of filming and sharing the match is really cool. But it's hard to see how each player is playing.
Hello, Darrell and Richard! Hopefully, the host knows how to play 42! Good job guys!!!! Millie
On the 2nd hand Kelly bid 35 in 4s with a 6:5 off and four 4s including top 2. Beth bids 84 with 6 aces and the 5:5. Rob bid 3 marks with four 3s including the top two. When rob plays 3:3 kelly is void and plays 4:4 to tell him its safe to punt 4s. Kelly has a 4 off and a 5 off and a 6 off so he punts 4s. He hits kelly's 4:6 then his other 2 4s walk. Rob was annoyed he threw away 0:0 on the second trick instead of keeping it as a safe lead. They got the 3 marks and 2 more the hand after that to surge ahead 5-1 after 3 hands.
C'est dommage, j'ai loupé le live :-(
Sure
Thank you for posting these videos. Still working on learning strategy. Hope to learn a lot from these guys!
Thanks John. A big part of the motivation to record matches is for the 42 enthusiasts playing apps in France and South America. Also to grow the game and show beginners a game of significance. This game was not super thrilling in that it was a two game victory (7-4, 7-2) with no 3 mark bids over 2 marks or 6-6 neck and neck 37s or anything like that. But that is ok. We will record other matches and post those videos.
I learned 42 on line and I was taught that bidding 30 meant you had the 55. Some people bid 30 meaning they had 3 doubles and at least one was 4, 5, or 6, some any 3 doubles. I was also taught to indicate. I don’t live in Texas and have played live very few times, but when I did it was people I’d met on line, so everyone bid like this and indicated. I haven’t played online for a long time so I just recently learned 42 online is gone. Saying all that, I get the bidding thing, but I don’t see how I could now play without indicating, when you are able to. How do you unlearn that and discard just willy nilly? I’d like to hear how you figure out what to discard. I am thinking about playing on the “new” site and don’t know if I can. Thank you.
yes the new site is fortee2.com which is basically 42online reborn. Yes many do use a bidding contract to signal to their partner what dominoes they have before their partner bids. There is an easy way to stop doing this. Stop doing that. Bid your hand. Signaling in this way is at best unethical, absolutely gives a team an unfair advantage, and has been called cheating. Is that how you want to win?
Please put (#Texas42 #42 #dominoes #dominos #Texas dominoes) in your comments. it might help attract more viewers. Hope it helps
Since I've been playing I've only had someone tell me that if they bid 30 it means they have so and so. I told her not to do it. I haven't played with her since. I think reverse indicating is cheating. It requires pre game conversation. I also don't agree with indicating doubles. Playing a double to indicate next high tile in that suit is natural indicating I think.
Do you take questions here in the comments?

Just ordered, and am excited to read it and learn!
Just met him at the championship tournament. He was very nice, always had a smile on his face and was trying to make sure everyone was have a good time. Thought he did a great job!
Love it !!!
Agree with your etiquette perspective totally.
Thanks Hop
Enjoyed this subject. Good idea for a 42 video. Bridge also has had similar scandals, even at the highest levels.
Ack
Richard, do you ever look at these comments? I have left several over the months, but no acknowledgement. Just wondering.
When will the book be coming out, and where can one purchase it?

@Richard Hay: Could I ask a couple 42-related questions? Wasn't sure where to post them. Been enjoying your videos. Thx!
Way to go, big brother!!!
Fact Check: The nickname "The Legend" originated with Kent Kopnicky
Morgan made the 42 table (with the Texas logo and bluebonnets) that Kent and I have.
It's hard for me to be hidden especially since I have a twin brother 🙃
so these videos are 360 so you can pan around and pick whatever view angle you want if you are viewing the video in a web browser like Chrome on TH-cam. Also if you are watching on your phone if you watch the video in the native android or iphone youtube app you can pan around. If you are casting to the TV or watching in the Facebook browser I think it picks the default angle and does not let you pan which is sub-optimal
Curious as to why Kent is going incognito here and refusing to be on camera?
In an era when few people understand elementary probability theory 🙃
Group of us big 42 heads up here in Albany NY . If you looking for a great game , suggest looking into Crokinole ! We have a club chapter in Houston! 🍻🍻
Should have added another set of legs on Odie.
