Hip-Hop Paathshala : Empowering Communities Through Hip-Hop & Education in Dharavi, Mumbai
Hip Hop Paathshala & Every Person Is Capable (EPIC) are looking to raise £8,000 (₹898,165 Rupees) which works out at £600 (₹66773 Rupees) a month to fund a one year Education Programme which will deliver FREE education to young people/students attending the Hip Hop Paathshala project.
About Hip Hop Paathshala
Hip-Hop Paathshala (HHP) is a unique street school of Hip Hop in the heart of Dharavi (India’s biggest slum) dedicated to educating young people about the true essence of this art form. HHP aims to provide comprehensive and in-depth Hip Hop education while fostering a sense of community, social responsibility and to improve mental & physical health.
The school has an intensive weekly curriculum for B Boying (Breakdancing), Beatboxing and Rapping.

HHP was founded in August 2023 by a renowned Hip Hop artist & Bboy called Akash Dhangar who has been working with youth and his local community for the past 15 years.
Akash has a vision to create a positive change in society through the transformative power of Hip Hop Culture. He recognised Hip Hop as a medium that could bridge the gap between chaos and creativity, especially for the talented youth residing in slums and underprivileged backgrounds.
Currently there is a significant gap between mainstream Hip Hop and the true artistic values it represents. Many people make uninformed judgments based solely on what they hear on the radio or see in music videos. Hip-Hop Pathshala aims to bridge this gap by offering a comprehensive curriculum that explores the history, techniques, and philosophies behind Hip Hop. We believe that by educating people, we can challenge stereotypes and develop a deeper appreciation for the art form.
Education Campaign in Hip Hop Paathshala
Currently Hip Hop Paathshala has between 15 - 20 students attending the project on a weekly basis learning Breakdance, Rap & Beatboxing.
The campaign will be providing FREE education in basic maths, science & languages to approximately 30 young people over 3 days a week for 52 weeks in the year. HHP will have two teachers that will be teaching for 2 hours per day where in total the teachers will be teaching 6 per week.
During school holidays, the Education Campaign will focus on teaching the English language and lifestyle coaching to develop critical thinking, confidence and public speaking skills.
The £8,000 raised will cover the following costs over 1 year:
Rental of the Classrooms
Hiring 2 Teachers (each working 6 hours a week)
Management (including monitoring & evaluation of the students progress)
Cleaner / Housekeeping
Note: This project will save parents who come from low income backgrounds approximately £180/₹20,000 rupees per year in tuition fees.
