I think people like Charles can be so uncomfortable to watch because Jim is supposed to be the everyman. He's the straight man in this show - a way of entry for the the audience. So when something is awkward for Jim, it's awkward for us, the audience, as well.
That type of bosses Charles are, unless if he/she is from the Board of Chairman or Director of a limited company, bringing that unfriendly kind of attitude to office wont survive long in corporate world today. He should have at least said thanks when Angela came to him for a handshake
This just proves Jim is only smug and smart among people like Michael and Dwight who don't especially try to fight back. Bring someone like Charles in, and Jim is just a joke lol.
I liked Charles Miner. Wish they kept him in the later seasons instead of adding Nellie and Robert. His interactions with Jim are hilarious. Nellie and Robert are just too cringey.

All Jim needed to do was lose the bow tie and maybe take off the coat. But instead he chose to take the route of embarrassment.
