Bob Davis built a Benson Gyrocopter. He replaced the original rotor head with a gimbled head and installed a 90hp Mcculloch engine. we used to take it to El Mirage to test it. After a couple of weekends of taxi testing it, Bob asked Ken Brock to fly it, which Ken did. I remember when he landed the first thing he said was, "The only thing that sounds worse than a Mcculloch is when it quits." It didn't quit and he enjoyed fling it. He did believe that a VW engine, although heavier and less horsepower was a better choice because of dependability. I'm said to hear that he is no longer with us. I left Santa Ana in the fall of 1969 and have remembered El Mirage fondly ever since.

Whats with the sound? Ita like that rotor is lubed with sand. Do you ever get off the ground? The truck and sun look like they är in the same spot. Next video point tje camera forward so we can see the scenery and the gyro going around a pattern to land.

It's too bad that a couple of years back I was a new member of this club. I intended to build and fly my own gyro. I had purchased plans for a gyro many years past. Considering I had been a tool and die machinist, and I am a pilot and an A&P, I figured this would be a great project to do now that I am retired. One Saturday after several of us paid for glider flights, two of the officers standing next to me, talking to each other, said that they were not going to fly the glider anymore. It was stated that it would not be available to club members that wanted to use it due to wear and tear if they continued having people pay to fly it. Strange statement to hear as only club members and their wife's were paying and flying that day. After later hearing about them flying the gyro the very next day, and me being only a new member, I feel this statement was made for me to hear. They also made the statement that their instructor did not want to fly it anymore. As I mentioned, the next day one long time member flew the glider for several hours with the aid of the pilot and one of these same Club officers, and they took the time to solo him. I am not sure what the purpose of the dishonesty was . I was a member and dropped out as it seemed they did not really want new members, or at least me in their club. Do yourself a favor and check out any club you might want to join, before investing your time and money some place you might not be wanted. Not sour grapes, just facts.

A couple of years ago I came to your club to join and pay for a couple of glider flights before the club discontinued them. At one meeting I met Medy and he mentioned he was getting a gyro and might consider giving training flights if I remember correctly. As I was told the club would no longer sale flights in the clubs glider, could you tell me if Medy is saleing flights, and is there a way he can be contacted? Does he keep the gyro at the lake? I love all things gyro. That said this is one of the worst videos I've ever seen. I made it to 3:12 and had to turn it off.

I think if wind speed 20mph is available gyroglider KITING can be done at sea beach or play ground @ BELOW 300ft safest RECREATIONAL Sport Ameatures of DIY.
