History of the Ping Punch Two Color Golf Ball - I Can't Golf
Few golf balls have held the attention of the public like the Ping Eye (and Eye 2) two color golf balls. They are sought after by collectors, they command big prices on eBay, and they have a history shrouded in mystery. In this video, I'll tell you all I've gathered about the history of Ping's golf ball manufacturing, leading up to my favorite vintage golf ball.

Golf Club Grooves Under a Microscope: I Can't Golf

Have you ever wondered what the grooves of your golf clubs look like up close? Like, up really close? Probably not. But, still, you may be interested to see what they look like, and see the difference between clean and dirty grooves, old and new grooves, as well as the effect a groove sharpening tool has on your grooves at the microscopic level. All of this and more on this edition of I Can't G...
Ping Eye 2: A History - I Can't Golf
มุมมอง 57K2 ปีที่แล้ว
2022 marks 40 years since the release of the Ping Eye 2 irons and wedges. And after four decades, these clubs are still being talked about. In this video, I'll go into some of the history of the Eye 2s, how their design and performance launched a groove controversy that lasted into the 2010s, and explain why I think the best selling irons off all time are also the most interesting clubs of all ...
Best Ball in a Bucket of Balls

Another golf off-season begins. When the weather gets colder and the courses all close, I Can't Golf. So I'm passing the time by digging through a bucket of old (let's call them vintage) golf balls I've found in the rough and trees and showing off a few of my favourites, trying to pick out the best ball in the bucket.

The snow has melted! And as the courses start to open up for the 2021 season, I'm hitting the range at long last to work off some ice and frost from my swing. I'm also thinking about how to set goals for golf, and sharing with you some of my goals for this upcoming season.
Protracer Everything - I Can't Golf

Remember how some American TV network tried to broadcast hockey games with a glowing puck so that viewers could see where the puck was? That was horrible. However, the idea works when you apply it to golf on TV, and there's no doubt in my mind that protracers make golf better to watch. So what else could they make better?

Fixing My Swing: I Can't Golf

I've always enjoyed capturing my swing on video and watching it to see how I can improve. Today, I share my swing with the hopes of overhauling a couple of issues.

I played my best golf in the mid 70's using Ping K111 (Rail) irons which to me were a better club and I still have them , the 1 iron is a weapon for me as I wasn't the best driver user even tho I could play back then. Long irons and putter were my tools !🤗

Well said! I still play my Eye 2s from 1987. They still work. Love taking $$ from my friends who have over $2K of clubs in their bag. They have not yet learned that what makes it work is the Indian, not the arrow.

Nice little history, wish you would have touched on the rare beryllium copper version Eye 2s; had a set of those with the good grooves, unbelievable...and super expensive. Irony is, I had a barn find of sorts, running I to a set for cheap and they just didn't hit like I remembered, ended up selling them for a tidy profi. Glad you hit on the wedges, finding Eye 2 sand and lob wedges was akin to finding the Holy Grail!

I bought my eye2’s when I was 18, I’ll be 53 this year and have been using cobra forged tec copper as couldn’t find beryllium copper eye2’s. Just let my 17 year old son ‘borrow’ them and he loves them. My cobras are over a club stronger but not as workable. As long as I keep a note of yardages I’ll play with both as I’m never getting rid of them👍🏼

When I started playing in 1992 as an 18 year old I was using a set of womens Wilson forged clubs. I wanted a set of Eye 2’s very badly. By the time I saved up the money I had to buy the Zings. I absolutely could not stand the look of the Zing at address and I’m positive it affected my game. I sold the Zings and quit playing for a few years. Then I came across a 2-SW set of black dot original Eyes with ZZ Lite shafts. I bought the whole set for $60 and absolutely love them. I still play them to this day and just re-gripped with new 5L round grips. In the woods I have an i20 driver, i20 3-wood and i20 17H and 23H hybrids. Along with my trusty BeCu Ping Pal 6 putter. I won’t be buying any new clubs ever as far as I’m concerned.

Over the years I have had close to 2 dozen different sets of irons. All but 2 sets have been donated or traded in on new purchases. The 2 that I have kept are my first real set, Wilson Staff Dynapower blades, and my favorite set and one that I played for a decade, Ping Eye 2 plus. I also have two Ping Anser putters from back in the day that I haven't used in forever but can't bear to part with. Great irons, as accurate and consistent as anything ever made.

Best are plus no plus (+no+), modern lofts, old grandfathered grooves. Only made for a few months in the spring of 1990, rarity means you'll likely need to piece together a set, as matching serial +no+ get stupid money. Great video. Now go get some nickel isi's.

Ping was on to something special when they cast that BeCu irons. The only short coming I would say was the offset. The irons had a lot of offset.

Yes, I was so lucky to grab a set of Ping Eye-2 Orange code (2-LW, all serial no. matching) in the original Ping 350-Series, R graphite shaft. Tried them all on the driving range. Amazing, it very easy to swing. I found the missed hits still making a good distance, about 80% less than those good impact hits. However, due to the weak loft of Eye-2 set, I have to remember to add a club for the same distance, of my Mizuno MP-4. Lastly, I also found that my scores from some rounds, by using this good-old Eye-2 set, even beat the best round (I have ever played this game).
