Victron and Roamer are pioneering forces when it comes to the future of lithium communication. Victron Cebro GX & Roamer Smart 4 integration enables you to power, monitor and control your whole electrical system for your campervan, motorhome or boat from the click of your fingers. It is a true plug and play solution with both products communicating and working simultaneously together to provide you with real-time information on the move. Simply plug your Roamer battery into your Victron Cerbo and all your juicy battery information will come straight up on your app, touch screen or VRM online portal.
We're huge fans of the blue stuff and have designed over 800 electrical systems for campervans and boats based on Victron components. Adding plug-and-play communication with Victron therefore made perfect sense.
We've made the process as streamline as possible by creating a simple guide on how to connect your Roamer SMART4 battery with a Victron GX device. You can watch the video here to simply connect the supplied CANbus cable to the waterproof port on the top of the battery and plug the other end into a Victron Cerbo (or other GX device) and the battery information becomes available to the Victron system. You can then monitor via the app, Touch screen or VRM online portal from anywhere in the world. If you use DVCC or ESS, you can also synchronise and control charging based on what the battery needs.

    On the board.. I see the Multiplus to the Lynx without an isolator…is that ok to do? Are you able to remotely turn it off fully or just a “soft off”/in standby. At night or going out for the day for example. What would I do with the MP to “turn it off”? I always planned to use a blue sea 6006 and just isolate when I’m not using(not under load when switching off/on) Is it best to just keep on all the time then electrically speaking for the multiplus internal components vs constant isolation and powering back up? Cheers Sorry if off topic 👍🏼

      @roamerbatteries 8 วันที่ผ่านมา

      No need for an isolator to the Multiplus. It has a power switch on the unit itself and you can also turn it on/off using the Cerbo screen. Most people leave the main power switch on and use the Cerbo to control it. The Blue Sea switch is only used as a battery isolator 👍

    Hey guys, thank you for the video. When connecting more than one battery to the system is there a bolt or stud size you would recommend? As the bolts supplied will not pass through two terminal lugs and thread into the battery as intended (as you would when using one battery in the system). I had though of the idea of putting a thread into the battery terminal to then stack the two terminals on my system together, fixing with a Lock washer and a nylock nut for extra security.

    • @roamerbatteries
      @roamerbatteries 13 วันที่ผ่านมา

      The 12mm bolts are usually long enough for two big lugs but if not, no problem swapping for 16mm M10 bolts. Any stainless steel hex bolts will work, choose A2 steel for campervan use or A4 steel for marine. And you’ll want M10 washer and spring rings too. I wouldn’t use post extenders, that just adds unnecessary resistance.

    Excellent video with some really convincing reasons for paying more for the roamer battery than cheap alternatives! I suspect that you can't edit that at all, so I thought I would point out that the bit of yellow/green tape visible at (for example) 6:50 is there because you have disconnected the negative bus from the cell terminal is NOT part of the normal battery construction... I will be ordering a 460SMART3 today I think (it takes me some time to pull the pin on a big expenditure)

    It is refreshing to see a product in the motoring world that has an impressive look of its build quality. There are many companies around these days insisting that the products they sell are top quality, but when you see the insides of these the true story of the product come to light. Well done Roamer!!! its unusal for me not to criticize a product.

    • @roamerbatteries

      There’s a few reasons for the copper busbar… one, it’s solid copper rather than the standard aluminium braid cable so less resistance and lower losses. It’s correctly rated for the max load by the way, calculated using UK regs. The flat surface also creates a better connection with the BMS and battery terminals… again less resistance, less voltage drop and reduced chance of a hot spot. You do NOT want that on your cell terminals! Finally, it’s a solid piece of copper from one end to the other (as opposed to than a ring terminal crimped to a cable, then crimped again to another terminal at the other end). Less connections, lower resistance and fewer points of failure. Of course the downside is it costs substantially more than cable but it’s carrying a serious amount of current so it’s worth it 👍

      Really interesting video Steve - when I originally discovered Roamer it was the quality and the 250A BMS which drove my decision (oh and it fit in the space I has available perfectly). I believe I have the original (First series 460Ah) which had an amazing spec for the time and is serving me well to date, the magic you want with tech where it all just works for me. What’s the difference between the first, S2 and the S3? I’ve seen slightly different behaviour at times compared to mine when helping people so was interested. All the best, David 👍

    • @roamerbatteries
      @roamerbatteries ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LeisureBitHi David, lots of little upgrades on the SMART3. The build quality shown in the video is what you get now… cell brackets, busbars etc are all new for SMART3. Cells are now traceable which gives consistency and confidence in quality. We updated firmware and short circuit protection to fix a couple of niggly BMS issues so that now works perfectly. We also added an independent Active Balancer which has eliminated problems with cell balance caused by using the battery incorrectly. Makes it much more forgiving of poor charge profiles - campervans will often have lead acid only chargers fitted and will be in storage for long periods. Active Balancing sorts this out, we never get issues now. Will also extend useful life by ensuring you always get max capacity from the cells. So its incremental improvements but added together mean batteries are very consistent and reliable. Returns have dropped to almost zero, everything now just works and we expect batteries to have a much longer useful life👌

      @@carmadme I’ve seen a few hotspots at high amps due to cheap cables and poor terminal connections… you do NOT want that happening inside a lithium battery.

    Maybe tell us how it does this, how can LifePO4 chemestry that has this fundemental flaw be changed? Can it still be called LifePO4 if the chemestry is changed?

    • @roamerbatteries
      @roamerbatteries ปีที่แล้ว

      The LiFePO4 chemistry is the same. During charging, lithium ions from the cathode are embedded into compounds with layered structures in in the negative anode material. Conventional LiFePO4 batteries cannot be charged at low temperature because the ionic conductivity of the electrolyte is reduced which interferes with the intercalation of the ions in the anode material. This leads to lithium plating, a process where Lithium ions are reduced to metallic lithium instead of intercalating into the anode. The Roamer Xtreme cells use a special negative anode with large crystal plane spacing and a specially modulated -80℃ non-condensing electrolyte which is conducive to the process of lithium ion intercalation at low temperatures.
