COVER or UNCOVER- Hurricane boat preparation
We prepare the boat for hurricane Milton. The debate is whether to cover the boat to protect it from flying debris and end up destroying the the cover. Or leave the boat uncovered and take your chances but save the cover. A little drama from a tornado that pops up and the fear of not knowing if the boat is damaged.

Ouch
So I'm asking as the retired father figure . . . ha ha . . . Your top three "affordable" 28 foot considerations were Blackfin (which really wasn't affordable) the Sportsman and a Cobia. Did you consider the 28 foot Reef Runner (or was it not yet available when you were shopping) I hope you get your issues taken care of, but I just scratched Sportsman off my list based on these issues. Your Garmin/Mercury interface problems is another big concern of mine when trying to figure out whether to go with Mercury or Yamaha and/or what brand of touch screens to buy. Great video and I am sure there are thousands of thankful viewers for your candid assessment.
@@philOKC Hey! Thanks for watching. The 28 Reef Runner wasn’t available when we were looking, there was some rumblings that it was in the works but not enough credible info as for targeted availability dates or even a rendering to make us wait to see. From what I’ve seen with Reef Runner it looks like a capable boat, what stood out to me that I didn’t care for was the cockpit view/setup. Most of our issues have been addressed and taken care of, I highly recommend doing a sea trial of at least 2 boats on your list. That’s what really moved the needle for us at the end. I’ll try to post an update about the resolved issues if things slow down at work.
That nail will fall off soon!
good review with con other reviews only the good and no any con 👍
Watching your boat review on the 28 Sportsman as we descend into Helsinki! Nice jersey. ❤
Awesome video and walkthrough! You guys are the best and I can't thank you enough for your business and friendship. Enjoy and I look forward to seeing you on the water soon!
It only lasted 5 months because (looking at your video) you weren’t sinking the trailer DEEP enough in the water. Your Target bunks should be Submerged. **That blue bumper getting hit is another clear indicator you weren’t sinking that trailer.. That boat is 9-10k it’s heavy! That Gatorback is a semi hard synthetic that will slowly chaffe through your Gelcoat just trailering around. Powering up on a properly submerged trailer Soft carpet works the best and it’s cheap.
@@spinfish1434 Hey, 1st off thanks for watching the video and the feedback. I checked out your channel and you have some good content keep it up! Yes one of the 2 ramps we put in at unfortunately is a little bit of a shallow launch as there’s a hole that the trailer tires will get stuck in, the other our hand is only forced at low tide. We can sink it at high always aiming for the wheel well and bunks to be decently covered. We will have to see about the Gatorback as I have had 50/50 opinions from forums, I’m skeptical having been a traditional carpet guy the last 30 years.
Why no seakeeper ride on this sportsman?
We had wanted the sea keeper ride, however it was not offered by sportsman from the factory at the time due to demand/design. I went ahead and contacted sea keeper myself as a retrofit and discovered they are willing to do it however it voids my hull warranty due to it being a “modification of the hull” so for now just good old fashioned trim tabs.
You get almost 2mpg. That’s very good for a boat this size.
Yes we were thoroughly impressed the first time we took her out. Thank you for watching!
The joys of a boat
Damn, in 2020 when I was looking to buy, this boat was nowhere NEAR that much money.
Yes the COVID price increase, redesign and boat shortage forced our hand
Nice boat!
We agree!
My seakeeper tech recommends using the seakeeper under 20mph. He states above 20 mph the stress on the stringers and the unit itself becomes risky and prone to damage.
Sea Keeper Ride while underway!
Excellent review gentlemen!
Glad you enjoyed it
Good Job on reviewing the boat. I see so many reviews by people that saw a boat and do a review with ZERO experience on the boat they are reviewing. You will find other issues, good and bad as you spend more time on the boat.
Thank you for watching! Just trying to provide honest feedback on the most expensive thing besides my house I will ever buy.
You actually can run the sea keeper while you’re running
@@jaxadams4254 hey just wanted to clarify, yes you can run it while running it still works and all. Just after talking with the manufacturer they had stated to disengage it while running/on plane to lower the stress on the stringers but yes you could run with it on.
Great video. I have been waiting for your review. Really disappointed about that water in the console. I think that’s a dealbreaker for me. What a headache. Salt water on the wiring. Sounds like a nightmare
@@JasonLanders04 yeah it’s not exactly perfect. I would hope that it was just a mixed caulking on our boat. The plan currently is to recaulk it and hopefully that fixes it. Thanks for the watch!
Now do one at 27mph! Then 28mph! Then 29 mph! Very interesting stuff!
Can you film a new video on how you like the boat, how it’s performing, and general things you like and don’t like now that you have had the boat for a while?
That’s another one we are in the process of making right now. I’ll try to expedite that for you.
Wondering how dry the ride is on windy days? Any experience yet?
The ride is very dry with your average wind. On days with say a 15-20 mph winds a little spray when we are getting after it. Next time I’m out I’ll film a short focusing on the spray.
Just posted a short on our page for you showing us running at 23mph on a very windy day.
Looking to get the same one with a tower on it. How does it run in rougher water? 3-4 seas?
It does a pretty decent job at handling bigger seas honestly, once you find the sweet spot with the trim tabs + motor trim. The sea keeper add is something I would 100% recommend though especially if you’re going with the tuna tower. If you’re able to stretch to the 30ft I would just because the added stability and cut we felt while test driving. Unfortunately it was just outside our budget.
Yeah id really like to get into the 322 with a sea keeper and tower but the 28ft with seakeeper and tower is within budget and the other is not so will have to stick with the 282 for now maybe on down the road we can uograde. All i care about it being able to go 60-100 miles off shore to get after some big yellowfin. And monster amberjacks
Just posted a short for you on our page to give you an idea in about 3 ft seas, if it stirs up to some bigger swells next time I’m out I’ll reshoot one for you.
They should make the rods so that the clickers can be turned off!
0:05 That look when you just dropped a deuce on somebody else brand new boat.
Any updates on how you like the boat? Also what kind of performance numbers are you getting on this? Looks beautiful
Hey Jason, yes we are in the process of making an update video along with a performance video. We will explain in the video why there has been a long pause in content we definitely want to be more on top of things… but in short the boat is great so far, a few nuances like any boat which I will hopefully cover in the coming videos. Top speed is around 53mph fully loaded for fishing, fuel consumption is good but I’ll get back to you with those specific numbers. Thanks for the view!

19 months!!! I’m at 12 months as of 12/13. Expected build date of 1/08/24. Following to see what you think!
Thanks for the follow! One thing we have learned so far is that your relationship with your dealer is key. So far ours has been phenomenal.
I mean I’m not going to risk my life like that but if you feel comfortable risking your I will just say your a legend dude.
Honestly I laughed it was funny
Yeah, I wish I could do the same. You’re lucky that you even have package that you never even use. That’ll be like a dream to me
Trust me, it’s never intentional… I’m convinced the lures are made to hook the buyer not the fish!
Those Mercury V8 Verados are tanks
So far so good. Looking forward to testing them out.
Rapids are the best part of the trip!
I'm in the same boat literally
lol so true
