My channel is dedicated to coaching and running the Double Wing and Shotgun Double Wing Offensive system. I have been coaching Youth Football since 2010 and adopted the DW/SGDW in 2012. This offense has given me many years of personal enjoyment as I have seen my own abilities to coach the system increase. Join me here for updates on coaching this great offense as well as chalk talk videos and highlights of teams that I have coached. My new DW/SGDW coaching guide is available for purchase NOW. More details can be found by contacting me directly at westcoastload@yahoo.com
I developed my DW attack first by studying the old school DW Tight attack of Steve Calande. As my ability to coach the system and blocking structure increased, I branched out to study the Shotgun DW attack of Tim Murphy at Clayton Valley Charter in California. I then in 2016 combined the two offenses seamlessly with my blocking system intact. This channel is the culmination of 14 years of DW experience. Welcome🏈

great stuff coach!
@@RobertGelinas-x3n I appreciate that Coach
Watching now coach thank you. Can I ask tho how does your qb read the end when spinning like that while under center?
@@LJProductions247 he opens to motion so it’s a reverse pivot. My line is told not to touch the DE. As soon as the QB spins he IMMEDIATELY stares down the DE. He has more time cuz of how far back my FB is at 7 yds deep. Most veer or triple option offenses use a close dive back. Youth offenses are a bit slower than varsity or college offenses so his depth is the key. It gives the DE a long look at the FB as he starts his downhill run shoulders square to the line. As he meshes with the QB the QBs eyes are on the DE. if he crashes which he usually does 95% of the time. It’s an automatic keep. The pitch man stays in pitch distance to dump it off to the wing if he’s in trouble. If ur QB can run. It’s nasty to try and stop.
Seems like you have some animosity towards the wishbone?
@@LJProductions247 hahahahaba nah I think the wishbone is coool. I think there’s far better ways to move the ball however.
@ would you say the double wings splits are too tight to run triple option? I have been toying with the idea of adding wishbone fundamentals with the foundation of double wing. What are your thoughts?
@ why not just run the double wing. It’s better than the wishbone in almost every regard. And I run the triple option from zero line splits and it works pretty good. Go take a look at my read option DW videos.
@ you are the first coach I have found who does triple option under center in double wing. Or your the only coach actually showing how to do so. I thank you very much. The fundamentals of wishbone are simple as hell “get your best athletes the ball in space” Mike leach credited wishbone to his creation of the air raid. So my thought process is to add some of that into the fundamentals of double wing. I am in no way trying to argue one’s better than the other I am simply trying to be a chef and I am taking ingredients from other offenses and I’m adding them to the simplistic double wing. Triple option eliminates two defenders by making them think. A defender who has to make decisions while also deciphering pulls counters and miss direction is so much! Your veer video out of DW is amazing I thank you and my goodness am I excited to transition my team into a double wing. Looking at the double wing from a wishbone/Flexbone perspective will do nothing but make that double wing better. Again thank you coach.
@ yeah I found that fooling the right defensive end was the KEY to opening up the outside for me. DEs would squeeze power and get real jumpy with how much misdirection there was. My FB usually kicks out the DE. so when lining my FB up in DEEP the DE gets a free run at the FB. and tackles him without the ball almost 80-90% of the time. The veer option from the DW literally won me a championship cuz the team we were playing had no clue how to stop it and our fakes were repped enough that they looked legitimately like the fb Has the ball.
Just bought a copy of "The Toss" can't wait to get some of your stuff as well.
@@danemesser1576 the Toss is the literal bible of the basic double wing. Within those pages is the philosophy of how this works. It’s an incredible read. Anytime you want to reach me just email me Coach!
@ Sure thing Coach! I know you've mentioned Calandaes as who taught you I was told by a UBSW guy to learn that blocking system if I wanted to understand his Single Wing blocking.
@ yessir. The GOOD GOD system was designed by him as a way to have a moving POA and to be able to adjust to different fronts on the fly. And it’s SPECIFICALLY geared to the doublewing. Which has a FOUR person blocking playside on whichever side you run to. Unless the wing is carrying out a different assignment. When he’s not you have four blockers on playside. You pull two and the QB tosses and leads. So if you include the center. You have essentially 9 people blocking on playside. Extremely hard to stop.
I coach little kids and this seems like a complicated way to teach what we call man up and block away, but good to watch and learn the formation and plays to possibly run out of it thanks
@@cbadwheeler5088 lots of coaches run this using SAB blocking or TKO blocking to simplify this. I had a few years with this team to get them this good at rules blocking. The advantage to rules blocking is that it’s flexible to different fronts without confusing my kids on who to block. It can be taught to youngsters but yes there are simpler ways to do this. For me coaching usually 8th grade ball. They learn it pretty quickly.
What age group Coach ?????
This was a weight restricted AYF Jr Midget team. 12-13 year olds. Max weight of 155 for 12. 135 for 13 yo.
My god this is so beautiful to watch. Man I don’t know if you would win but would love to see you do this against teams from fla, Texas,
@@lutherodaniels3799 well California football is no joke as well man. Florida Texas and California has the largest football base as far as players. In Texas and Florida we already have coaches using this and doing the same thing. Pompano Eagles ran this. And multiple teams in Dallas Texas. Coach Don High in Texas been running this with great success for years now
Your offense is deadly my man.
@@lutherodaniels3799 I coach the details with this offense which makes ALL the difference. It’s a clock control grind it out offense. It makes some parents mad but strikes fear in D coordinators. Coming out in one formation and doing everything from that formation. Presents a problem without a solution to unprepared defenses. If u rep this stuff. It is indeed deadly
Hey the veer is also a deadly offense.
@@lutherodaniels3799 I love the Veer. De la Salle runs that near me in concord.
anything that works is great
I seen a HS team win a state championship running that offense in Michigan. That’s the best offense to run when the weather is terrible.
@@lutherodaniels3799 yessir it’s why I recommend this offense for youth. It’s weather proof. People that run spread offenses for 10-13 yo’s fall apart when it’s windy and cold/raining. We usually tear spread teams apart cuz they can’t continue to move the chains like we do.
@ yea Coach. If I coached, most definitely would run this offense. One game I seen them run this, the field was a mess and the ran like it was nothing. Then when they got to the Pontiac silver dome (I’m showing my age)on turf, it was over. Your film actually got me wanting to coach. I subscribed and will be following you.
@@coachb7373 plus it teaches basic fundamentals especially blocking.
@ awesome coach. I appreciate the support. Yeah I mean passing at the lower ages is not statistically more reliable than a running game. I do pass. But I find we don’t usually need to. Our blocking scheme and our power play and wedge make up the bulk of our practice time. While other teams try and get good at routes. We get good and running and misdirection. Then we roll down the field eating up the clock. Game over.
This is a great offense if you don’t actually want to learn or play real football. Lollll
@@CMBTSports yeah cuz they don’t run or block at the “next level”. Another moronic comment.
@@CMBTSports I’ll bet you tell ur kids “block the kid across from you” while my offense is giving the parents sunburns from lighting up the scoreboard so much.
@@coachb7373 Relax. Im just talkin smack lol serious sally. I’m sure you’re a good coach but it’s not a real offense that works at higher levels. 🤷🏻♂️ For the record I coach high school, run a pro style spread, typically we have a top ranked offense in our league. But those are guys are more mature. Obviously these are little guys so this offense is good for now. Just kinda bs misdirection nonsense… idk, it’s fine for pee wees. It’s fine. Lol also as a lawyer the moron comment really hurts… ugh! In any case good luck in all seasons. Football is GOAT
@ no trust me I understand the smack. I hear it more often than you think. Like to me you gotta define “higher level” and how it suddenly stops working. Cuz all the service academies run this my dude. It’s THIS only way more advanced. So you gotta explain to me your claim that it doesn’t work. Not true. Just MOST move on to more effective ways of moving the ball based on their personnel. When you have the best receivers and a strong arm QB you’d be foolish to run this. It’s PERFECT for youth teams and it would still be effective if ANY team ran this as their bread and butter. But they won’t. Cuz that’s not how the NCAA and NFL works. But trust me. Watch my videos and highlights. These are mostly 10-13 yo’s and they are carrying out intricate blocking schemes for this level of ball. In youth football you have to be able to block to win championships. And this system does just that. No offense taken coach. Congrats on your success. I’d go to high school but they only want teachers and with a full time job it’s a huge commitment.
@@CMBTSports and I didn’t call u a moron I said that was a moronic comment. We just specialize at pounding the rock. Versus spreading them out. We compress them and double and KO our running lanes open.
Rocket Out 25 Counter reminds me of the old Statue of Liberty play.

Amazing resource.
I love defenses like the 46 and the 10-1 that attack the offense
@@norsemustang-p1i I used the 46 gambler to much success but it had a problem defending the sweep so we ultimately settled on the wide tackle 6-2
Is it better for the qb to pitch or handoff in the power play? Which is better if the qb is booting out on it?
@@garykosloski7976 the toss is if you are running the power the OG way and leading with the QB as an added blocker. Teams that handoff aren’t doing it right. Although in gun I hand it off and boot him opposite to pin the DE backside.
How do you handle defenses that read pullers? We read pullers and flow to point of attack and generally have success defending that way. What do you do to counter that defensive scheme?
Hey coach this is my other account. I have a few plays that use false pulls and designed QB keeps away from pullers. Also my read option series of plays i typically run from a formation called "DEEP" doesn't use pullers but is instead, a DE trap play. Additionally wedge we don't pull, nor do we on pass plays outside of my kids pulling and then turning back to pass block. So we're not pullings on 100% of our plays, so that makes it slightly harder to key JUST pullers. Now what I instruct my teams specifically to do is to simply "out-hustle" anyone that flows towards our POA. My offense knows the play and the defense does not, so I expect my kids who pull to get to where they need to be PRIOR to anyone that has read my pullers and then made their first step. Cause MOST of the time if my pullers get to where they need to be, and the double teams setup on the playside like they should. I DEMAND we get 3-4 yards per carry. A team that flows to my POA reading pullers will slow me down. But they won't stop me from getting 4-5 yards a carry. And with reading pullers it also really depends on how old the kids are. Success at pulling that off at any age less than like 12U is unlikely. Possible but not the norm. So in short during a game I do a lot of different things, pull, no pull, motion, no motion, pullers going one way and ball carriers going another, read option, quick shifts, the nearly unstoppable wedge, and I STILL have a few legitimate NASTY deep Play action bombs if I feel a defense is crowding me with the corners, and safeties/LB's.... When they don't respect my ability to throw, I will throw a bomb on them. But I usually don't need to cause teams play me honest.
How do you handle teams that read the pullers? Any time we play vs. offenses like this we read pullers and flow to the play.
@@fredlucas7831 I have several plays with false pulls. Some plays with no pulls. And tags that modify who is pulling and who isn’t. I’ve NEVER seen a team that in youth was able to pull this off successfully. My pullers are MOVING to reinforce the playside. And on the playside there is a wall created by double teams on the D lineman. So backers are regularly caught up in the wash trying to get to the POA. if my pullers make it there first it generally doesn’t matter. My goal is to just get 4 YPC. tough to stop.
Good point about the qb under center , have to get out of the way of guards!
@@garykosloski7976 yeah in UC I like my guards take a small 6” split from the center to give my QB some room to Operate. In this offense space is ur enemy but in certain areas u gotta give him a little bit of space.
You are one man light on defense!
@@garykosloski7976 hahaha yeah I just noticed I missed a backer. No problem at all however. Just follow the rules and it’ll tell u who to block
We ran some of these plays out of the I formation with a wingback back in the 90’s. It would always confuse a defense.
@@matth5117 winged offenses are nasty. And this is usually the nastiest one. When it’s ALL you run and ur wings are flying around faking it can be hard to see how has the ball.
Seems like everyone wants to spread the ball out now, but with some speed in the backfield you can ruin some teams with counter plays 😂 especially on these 3 man fronts people try to run on defense.
@@matth5117 watch some of my old video of what this offense does to teams when I have speed. How this offense works is your main back does all the power running. Usually the left wing. Then your right wing runs all the counters. But it starts out looking like more power. And that doesn’t account for wedge either. I branched this offense out in 2016 into a Gun version and a UC version and my team did both. We were never stopped.
@@matth5117 and it’s not like I don’t like the spread. But in youth you have lots of variables to throw. Wind and rain being two big ones. QB arm strength being another. Establishing a ground and pound run offense is by and large easier. While my opponents are training to run routes in perfect weather. My team is training to pound the rock in all elements regardless of what the D does. And grind the clock down.
Someone send this film to OU

what do you call if you dont huddle the line? literally ray no play?
@@Blazewrestlingtechnique ummm well even when we run this play I will huddle as normal. I do have a no-huddle rabbit call which tells my offense not to huddle anymore and we would go off 11 wrist coaches players wear. I’d send in the code of the play and they translate it vocally to the team. Ray no play would have a play slot on the wrist coach. So I’d call it from the sidelines.
I appreciate you Coach- Stay Up! It’s helping my undersized players. -& anybody who knows football knows, you pass to score but you RUN to win…
@@tc-cav-194 yessir. I pass like anyone else. But I just wait till the defense tells me to pass. Cuz when you can’t stop the run you gotta do something unsound in another area. So I wait until that time to exploit their lack of pass coverage or a total commitment to the run. It’s funny cause I think my lifetime average for completions vs attempts is probably close to 75-80%. Generally when we throw. It’s a high percentage route or receiver is wide open.

@@coachb7373 I wouldn’t trying to be a butthole I was just saying the athletes and anticipation we have would give them a run for there money. We have won 4 straight championships in Georgia working on 5. I definitely can’t get my kids to pull like yours any pointers on pulling?
It works everywhere and on every level. What a ridiculous thing to say.
@@CoachCalande as soon as I heard 9-10 Year olds would crush my 12-13 yo’s I was like 🙄
@ “shooting gaps so hard…” yeah, pretty sure the fullback will have 300 yards on trap before halftime.
I have been dressing 12-13 kids this year. Its been rough and we just installed 44/45 Dog and Dog Option. Its been a real shitshow Not sure if you have a video on the Dog scheme so just throwing it out there coach 💪
@@dennismurphy3571 you mean the Calande “Dog” series of plays? Kinda like full back iso runs? I have used something similar with my option plays when I run a formation called DEEP. check out my read option stuff for similar series of plays. I will tell u that fielding 12-13 is always a shit show.
@@dennismurphy3571 also now that I think about it my system also has a few plays in there like 44 and 45 power GO where I only pull a guard backside. It also works well unbalanced cuz that’s a guard only pull as well when I shift a tackle over. That’s my version of DOG
It's an illegal formation ...ya need 7 line men on the line of scrimmage
@@sneaksc9767 yeah and we do every play. Sometimes I have 8 or 9 on the line. My center. 2 guards. 2 tackles. 2 tight ends. Basic math dude. The rule says a MINIMUM of 7 men on the line. Check ur rules again bruh. 😎
Absolute clown comment. It's a completely legal formation.
Had similar system in the 1960’s. 2, 4, 6 and 8 blocking? Easy to remember. Gap, over, mlb, frontside. If the play was inside you, over, outside. Easy to remember 50+ years later. Coaches, Jerry Hanson, later at Michigan with Bo and Denny Marvin later with NY Giants and Jets.
@@bobfoster687 yessir. This system is basically the natural evolution of that combined with the DW alignment makes it very effective at a simple structure for blocking especially at youth.
Inside , on, linebacker
Make nervous to much ball handling for me
@ I use a lot of direct snap too alternatively. But yeah the ball handling has to be repped substantially
@ I’ve heard also OIL blocking like that.
this is nice
how can i get the playbook coach
this is so dope
@@bs7377 appreciate Coach!!!
woww
Hey coach...on the 38 super sweep do you block it just like Trojan?
@@jeremyzornes9342 not necessarily. On the Trojan (27 for example) I’m using the TE to reach block the DE. both guards and backside TE pulling. On the 38 super sweep I’m using the right wing to hook and reach the DE. the PSTE is cutting inside and I’m pulling both the PST and the PSG/BSG. it’s similar but not exactly the same. But on mostly all my sweeps. If ur Not pulling ur cutting.
Nice Coach
@@jerske2828 appreciate that coach!
@coachb7373 you may have hit this already but I would be interested in how you handle a wide tackle situation, who is line up on the inside shoulder of the TE.
@@jerske2828 the GOOD GOD would treat him as the double team by rule. The AT man who is the right tackle on say 34 Power is blocking GOOD. Third in his progression is that O. Outside gap. So assuming nobody else is there in range that’s his guy. The TE would be blocking GDB and with that DT in his “Gap” his first rule prevails. Therefore on 34 Power. The RT and RTE would double that DT. And the FB will KO or log the next wider man. And there’s the lane.
@coachb7373 yes, I see. I run SAB and have had trouble with wide tackle situation unless I treat him as the DE. It doeason always work however. If he is a dawg, he usually disrupts unless I log him. Thanks coach.
@@jerske2828 yeah putting a defender heads up on ur TE is an approach to get you to stop trying to pound the off tackle C gap. Typically what I like to do with that alignment is run. 36 power. Now the wing and TE would double the DT and the FB will KO one hole wider. Sometimes that’s the LB or CB depending on D alignment.
Who's has the ball??? That's the point,
@@user-bl6ne3hc6n precisely
I hate that offense lol it’s soooonfreaking hard to stop lol the mike will have a long day trying to read his keys so many dang motions shifts and miss directions lol
@@Mr.Burton98 yessir. That’s what the DW is known for. That’s why we love it as OC’s
Super appreciate all the knowledge and help you share Coach. I like how you stated the system is to teach the coach (and then you kick it up a notch and discuss practice!) It’s evident how much knowledge is in your manual and playbook-seasons, years, ups and downs, the work it took to gain all this experience-the fact your willing to even share all this says a lot about you because - Solid Coaches Teach. Much Respect! Coach Todd, Gretna Youth
@@tc-cav-194 appreciate as always Coach. Yeah I can only write down the knowledge and offer it to others. It’s the coaches responsibility to teach it to the kids and make it real. My YT is designed to make that easier to anyone that has decided to pursue running my system. Practice is a big part of what I do but there’s so many variables to what a team needs to be good in. But this gives it some structure
Much Respect Coach B- your coaching manual and playbook are SOLID. I appreciate all the help- The fact your even willing to share this is amazing- Evident that it’s seasons and years worth of experience and knowledge -100%
@@tc-cav-194 coach I appreciate the hell out of these comments always man. And I’m glad ur loving the manual. Wing on my dude!!!!
Wing t i hated this offense. We ran it in high school. Just following the tackles leads you to the ball carrier. Also smaller schools run this offense because the lack of size. However speed is needed to run a good wing t offense
@@llllll-ux2lz this isn’t the Wing T and i don’t pull tackles so everything u said is incorrect.
Love that you run this offense. I run about 60 percent tight formation but I found that unbalanced tackle over and double slot with the tight ends with wicked splits can cause the edge defender to get out of alignment because he becomes in conflict. If he bumps out he is easy to kick out. If he slides over the wing he is easy to down block. Please reply if you ever want to bounce some ideas this way. I’m a Georgia coach (retired) in Augusta)
@@danielking3134 hey Coach!!! Yeah I run some unbalanced line as well. I never messed with wicked splits but I wanted to. My wing on alignment creates almost the same situation with the DE bumping out. I have found that putting the DE in conflict is what makes this offense go every time. Off tackle power or sweep. Can’t defend both.
Hey coach...thanks for this. I sent you an email with a question about a 7 man feont. I know you're busy, but i was curious how you'd coach thay scenario. Thanks again for these videos. We've had a ton of success so far in our season
I've always preferred the GunWing, or the Gun T (TE + wing on one side and reciever + slot on the opposite side). However, I also run an under center package for goal-line and short yardage situations.
@@AntAntL yeah wing offenses are all pretty badass. My short yardage stuff is my Eagle heavy direct snap package using my full back in the gun.
