Hey Im looking for a little barber wisdom. Almost all new barbers fresh out a school are normally young but me at 55 Im thinking about going to barber school. As a multi shop owner what is your opinion on that. Im reaching out to others trying to get a feel for the culture and newby old man barber. So anything you care to share will be gratlly appreciated. But no pressure
I totally understand. I got into barbering at 30 years old was a complete career shift as I was a school teacher before this I don’t ever think it is too late for you to build something that you could be passionate about building. I’d rather take chances in life rather than take none at all. We get one shot at this thing called life, might as well make the most of it. Is it going to be easy? No but I could definitely tell you it is worth it.

46 years old seasoned barber since 1994 I’m teachable and motivated and have went to school in the past for cosmetology and just went back to school last year 11-9-2022 and graduated ABI American Barber Institute in New York New York in February 9- 2023 and got my license after a very difficult exam 😅. I’m not set in my ways but have a system that works and I can’t stress enough about how important it is for any barbershop to have great teamwork I actually have been picky with shops for this reason and barbers will try and blackball other barbers by letting the customers have a false impression of them such as he does not clean his tools or you will get a bad result from sitting in their seat.things like that 😮 or the barber who opens up in the morning is always late and me and the client are usually waiting for the shop to open up when it’s supposed to be 9 but the guy shows up at 9:45 or 10:00am and when I finally talked with the manager. He told me that I’m lying and he doesn’t want barbers lying.So I left and called the owner of the barbershop and explained what took place and he said he was going to check the cameras and then the next day the owner called me and asked me to come back and he apologized for the situation that took place and I told him that I didn’t want the job no more and he said well I’m not going to beg you to come back and we left it like that. The ship belongs to the owner and we all that work together should treat the shop as if we owned it and we should all get along and if you have a new barber then I will feel the energy. Great content and I finally made my choice and stick with being a master barber and go all the way with it because I found that this is what I do and love doing it for being in a business that makes people look and feel good about themselves. I’m an experienced unlicensed therapist and I love giving clients the experience of a lifetime and my appearance and counsultation skills open the doors to a great experience for the clients 😅 I’m great full of people like you that are passionate about our industry and are actively involved with our community and future generations of barbers who take the time out of their busy lives and make time for educating our students about the process and the challenges they face and how to overcome them.❤ it great content 😅BLESSINGS
