I think this video was filmed ten years ago this month… So many artists take down old videos as their voices change, but I often leave mine up in case they’ll be useful to anyone. Thank you so much for the kind note. I am so glad that you are taking lessons and enjoying singing! You might find it interesting to note that I have a neurological disability, Cerebral Palsy, that has had different effects on various muscles in my body. Singing has always been therapeutic for me… I hope it is for you, too! ❤️

I would LOVE to talk to you about your CP if you are interested- I’m currently working on a research project on best practices and accommodations for neurodiverse/chromodiverse music students and musicians, and your experience would be INCREDIBLY valuable. I intend to publish it and present at the various New England state music educator conferences in Fall 2024. Now that more of us are being identified, it’s time that music teachers were given the tools they need to help us! I’m a private brass & woodwind teacher (M.M.Ed.) who specializes in beginners and ND/CD learners. I started in this area because I had dyslexia that went undiagnosed until I was an adult and already teaching, and since there wasn’t any research on it, I literally pioneered the field of teaching music to dyslexic students by publishing my Master’s thesis on it (and I’m the main citation for all of the resulting papers, dissertations, and a book). THEN, after a physically excruciating 4 decades, I diagnosed myself (and my entire living bloodline, tracing back to my great-great grandparents) at 41 as having a genetic collagen and connective tissue disorder, Ehlers-Danlos Syndrome (all confirmed by geneticists). It has numerous musical ramifications: the rare brain condition, called a Chiari Malformation (I’m 10 years post-op) that can result both in the compression of the brain stem into the larynx and the inability to use the soft palate to close off the nasal passages, scoliosis and degenerative disk disease that makes proper posture painful, a very high hard palate that creates a HUGE oral cavity (it sound like I have a cathedral in my mouth when I sing), but makes it challenging to play higher notes on horn, my main instrument. I’m also the EDS ambassador for The Chromodiversity Foundation, and we offer resources and networking to X-Men like you and me. 🤗 PLEASE let me know if you’d like to contribute your very valuable experiences to my research! My goal is to offer all music teachers the knowledge, skills, and approaches to teach ALL of their students, no matter what they bring to the table. 🩷🩷🩷

Hi, Fleur! I don't always sit when I sing, but sometimes I do. For me, this is mostly because I have Cerebral Palsy which affects my legs. Sometimes, it's nice for me to give my legs a break! I quited when I was 18years old because I have thyroid disease. But I really love music, sing a opera , lied . So now, I'm 38years old but Begin again☺️
