Congaree National Park 9.14.24
What started as an overcast day turned out to be a beautiful sold out day! We welcomed folks from Colorado, Pittsburgh, Miami, Charleston and a Girl Scout Troop from Charlotte out today! Heard several Barred Owls 🦉 calling out while in Lake Dawson and a Red Shouldered Hawk near Big Snake Slough. We had a couple Common Brown Water Snakes 🐍 out and 2 Water Moccasins 🐍. Bit of an overcast day but that didn't stop a few critters from coming out. We spotted 2 Barred Owls 🦉 on the day and a couple Common Brown Water Snakes 🐍. It is starting to look & feel like fall! We are seeing lots of Beaver 🦫 activities along the creek. (Striping bark, cutting trees) We had a Barred Owl 🦉 hanging out just after starting and spotted a couple Kingfishers as well. It's starting to feel a lot like fall! The weather was great today and we were able to spot a few critters out. We heard some Red Pileated Woodpeckers and Red Shouldered Hawks along with some smaller birds. Spotted a Water Moccasin 🐍 and Common Brown Water Snake 🐍 in the same area. We had Cedar Creek much to ourselves this morning. Heard a bunch of birds but none were really hanging out near the creek. We did see a baby Common Brown Water Snake 🐍 that had just enjoyed a small meal. Thanks for coming out and letting us share Congaree National Park with you! @congareenps @find_ypur_park

A nice cool day on Cedar Creek in Congaree National Park! The fall colors are starting to come out and we're getting some nice leaf coverage on the creek. We spotted a Red Pileated Woodpecker right after starting. We also had a couple Belted Kingfishers flying around Lake Dawson. Today we welcomed a father/daughter combo from Colorado to Congaree National Park! It was a much cooler day with the temp only reaching low 80's. Even with the cooler temp we still managed to spot 2 Common Brown Water Snakes! We also spotted 2 Barred Owls 🦉 and a 3rd calling out. And that's a wrap on Labor Day weekend 2024! We had a great group out today including a couple celebrating their 35th anniversary, an exchange student from Barcelona, a few semi locals and a bunch of folks from California! It was a bird-tastic day on Cedar Creek in Congaree National Park! We spotted a Barred Owl 🦉 sitting in a Cypress Tree about 20 mins into our trip. Today was a great way to wrap up August 2024 and kick off Labor Day weekend! We spotted three Barred Owls 🦉 on the trip today but only one hung around long enough for us to get on video. It was a hot & sticky day in Congaree National Park! Luckily once on the creek and under the canopy it felt great.
