Charcesium Ehrenberg - The unseen cleaners of aquatic ecosystems - seen under the microscope.
Description of the microorganis:
Charcesium ehrengergi is a bell-shaped ciliate microorganism commonly found in aquatic environments, where it attaches to surfaces like algae and detritus. It uses tiny hair-like structures called cilia to create water currents for feeding on bacteria and small organic particles.

Crustaceans - hard - shelled arthropods seen under the microscope.
Description of the organism: Aquatic microscopic crustaceans are a diverse group of small, often planktonic, crustaceans that inhabit a wide range of water environments, including oceans, lakes, rivers, and even some damp terrestrial habitats. These tiny creatures are an essential part of aquatic ecosystems, playing key roles in food webs and nutrient cycling. Tags(ignore) : #compoundmicroscope...
Lacrymaria olor - a single celled organism, seen under the microscope.
Lacrymaria olor is a single-celled, freshwater protozoan known for its unique, elongated shape and highly flexible "neck," which it extends to capture prey. It belongs to the class Ciliophora and is covered in tiny hair-like structures called cilia, which help it move and feed. Its distinctive teardrop shape and dynamic movement have earned it the nickname "tear of the swan." Tags(ignore): #use...
Gastrotrichs - hairy recyclers seen under the microscope.
Description of the microorganism: Gastrotrichs, often referred to as "hairy bellies," are a group of microscopic, aquatic invertebrates belonging to the phylum Gastrotricha. These tiny organisms typically inhabit marine and freshwater environments, residing on the surface of sediments, plants, and other substrates. They are very small, usually ranging from 0.1 to 3 millimeters in length. Tags(i...

Nematodes - the most abundant multicellular species - under the microscope.
Description of the organism:Nematodes, also known as roundworms, are a diverse group of organisms belonging to the phylum Nematoda. They are found in almost every habitat on Earth, including marine, freshwater, and terrestrial environments. Nematodes play crucial roles in ecosystems as decomposers, parasites, and predators, influencing nutrient cycling and ecosystem dynamics. Tags(ignore): #com...
Amoebas - masters of shape - shifting and feeding, seen under the microscope.
Amoebas are single-celled organisms known for their shape-shifting abilities. They lack a fixed form and move by extending pseudopodia, or "false feet." They live in freshwater environments and feed by engulfing organic matter through a process called phagocytosis. While many are harmless, some species can cause diseases in humans and animals. Hydra viridissima - a green jellyfish under the microscope.
Hydra viridissima, commonly known as the green hydra, thrives in freshwater habitats like ponds and streams. Its distinct green coloration comes from symbiotic algae living within its tissues. Like all hydras, it's carnivorous, using its tentacles armed with stinging cells to capture small prey. With its exceptional regenerative capabilities, Hydra viridissima can regrow from severed fragments....
Stentors - large trumpet - shaped cells under the microscope.
Stentor is a fascinating genus of single-celled protozoans that belongs to the phylum Ciliophora. These microorganisms are commonly found in freshwater habitats such as ponds, lakes, and slow-moving streams. What distinguishes Stentor from other single-celled organisms is their unique trumpet or funnel shape, which sets them apart in the microscopic world. Unlike many other microorganisms that ...
Death of a microorganism under the microscope.

Large rotifers (Collotheca campanulata) under the microscope.
Collotheca campanulata is a species of rotifer characterized by its bell-shaped body and distinctive corona of cilia, which create water currents for movement and feeding. It is found in freshwater habitats and plays a crucial role in nutrient cycling and ecosystem balance. Collotheca campanulata reproduces both sexually and asexually, and its resilience enables it to thrive in diverse environm...
Vorticella - sensitive single - celled filter feeders under the microscope.
Vorticella is a small aquatic organism found in freshwater environments like ponds and streams. It has a distinctive bell-shaped body connected to a stalk. Using hair-like structures called cilia, it moves and captures food particles such as bacteria and algae. Vorticella can swiftly retract or extend its stalk to avoid danger or reach better feeding spots. Tags(ignore): #useful #compoundmicros...
Hydra: ancient jellyfish under the microscope.
A quick presentation of the organism called Hydra. Hydra is a tiny creature found in freshwater environments. It has a small tube-like body with tentacles around its mouth. These tentacles help it catch food and protect itself. One interesting thing about Hydra is its ability to grow back if it's cut into pieces. It eats small water creatures like insects. Even though it's small, Hydra plays a ...

I love your videos. Im a teacher and I just set up a planted fish tank ecosystem so that we can sample and do microscopy whenever we want. I'll use your videos to show them what to look for :)

Fantastic! I love these guys. I thought you needed 1000x to see them properly but this was 400x?

Yes, I used 400x magnification to record but I think it would also have looked better at 1000x where the cillia is more visible.
