This movie is some genius level satire.

To be fair this movie made fun of everyone even the mafia the help distribute it

CORE (Congress of Racial Equality) protested the movie before it was released and before they actually saw it. Ultimately it received the endorsement of the NAACP. The movie is satire. It was a passion project for Bakshi who wanted a place for black artists and a black voice in animation. His dream died with the failure of the movie and 50 years later we still don't have a black voice in animation thanks in part to CORE not understanding what satire is.

i remember watching this movie for the first time when i was like 16 years old and i thought it was awesome but mostly because of the artstyle and me being a huge fan of Bakshi. Now i might have to rewatch it and look at the actual message in the movie because my 16 y/o brain did not get any of that ill be honest 🤣

This movie is outstanding! Everything is definitely about the hypocrisy of this country and the accuracy of who makes it and who doesn’t

Now I get the Malcolm X/Revolutionary character who answered to satan or communism or something. Everything was a satire of how 1970's majority society viewed people by their color.
