    • @patsonmusic
      @patsonmusic 23 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Thanks, yes it is a really nice brass sound! 😊At first I'm playing the factory preset, right now I don't recall the name of it. It has a filter opening up the sound. It is pretty dry and without effects and no release at all. At 4:09 I'm switching of the Compare button, and I have a softer sound I've adjusted from the brass sound. At 4:43 I add the B layer to the sound from the original brass patch, making it a little bit fuller. I have to check which patch is serving as a starting point when I have access to Prophet 08. Do you have one yourself?

    • @patsonmusic
      @patsonmusic 9 ชั่วโมงที่ผ่านมา

      Having checked my Prophet 08 I found it is Bank A 102 Tricky Sweeper which I've adjusted. It's a sawtooth on Osc 1 and Pulse 50 on Osc 2, with a lot of modulations to Osc 2 pulse width, low pass frequency and output panning, making it very organic and alive when oscillators move and panning going back and forth. A very nice sound,I really dig it, too. I actually spent the evening playing around with and recreating it on another synth, the Behringer UB-Xa😊

    • @patsonmusic

    • @patsonmusic
      @patsonmusic หลายเดือนก่อน

      Having another look at the synth I can confirm there are three settings for receiving key velocity, either TCH (meaning what the controller keyboard sends out), fixed 64 or fixed 127. The default is 127. In addition to this you can set three velocity curves, light, medium and heavy.

    How is the keyboard? I love the deep mind 12’s sound engine but that Keybed is the worst ever created 😂So I wonder how this one is if it’s too light and “plastic feeling” I may as well buy the desktop version. The Sonic Sledge I have has a create after touch.

    • @patsonmusic
      @patsonmusic 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CallousCoder Well, the keyboard is pretty light, similar to the Poly D. The aftertouch works well, I think, much more responsive compared to my 80s Rolands. I guess the light feeling of the keys are similar to DeepMind, but I have never played one, so I can't really tell. If you feel that you won't use poly aftertouch, and you have great channel aftertouch on the Sonic Sledge, then I would go with the desktop.

      @ thank you for the reply. The poly after touch is a nice to have but then again how often do you use it? After touch itself is usually more that enough for me. Very informative.

    • @patsonmusic
      @patsonmusic 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@CallousCoder Great value for money, indeed! 16-voice polyphony means that notes are hardly cut even with a long release. And unison the sound cuts through a concrete wall 🙂 I've gotten used the keybed pretty fast, although I would like some more resistance and weight in the keys. Time will tell how useful poly AT will be, but it takes some practice to get used to it, I think. Maybe if your into ambient music and want to do subtle changes, highlight a note in a chord with vibrato or volume changes it could be useful. Thanks for watching ☺️

      @@MJanovicable Thanks! Yes, I also think that Behringer (or any other synth brand) should works harder on their presets. Fortunately there are independent patch bank wizards providing more and better patches for a fair price, if one is not into programming themselves. I find myself adjusting patches to my liking very often, since I feel many factory patches are mostly made to show the synth's capabilities and seldom usable as such in e.g. a band. I made one preset on my DeepMind that I can’t stop patting myself on the back for lol. I’m sure there will be plenty of free presets for these synths from the community. It’s kinda fun creating presets that are very different from anything that the synth came with. I’m not a pro when it comes to making presets, but the process is an exploration and an activity in itself. So it’s crucial that the UX/UI is done really well, otherwise I’m just not gonna enjoy creating presets. Judging from the videos I’ve seen so far, UB-Xa appears to be as intuitive as DM (which I own). To be clear, I think without an app, adjusting FX on DM would have been painful *for me* (subjectively, because I like it easy) and because some of these FX have a lot of parameters. The app makes adjusting FX extremely easy, and visually pleasant. Actually, I use the app for mod matrix too, because I can see all mods simultaneously and it’s super easy to map from selection list, which also inspires experimentation (because you see the list and just wanna try this and that, vs scrolling one destination at a time. The app doesn’t substitute the physical interface for me, but rather extends it. UB-Xa has many shortcuts so it might not need the app and still be easy to use? Can’t wait to test it out!

    • @patsonmusic
      @patsonmusic 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Emil_m Thanks for sharing your thoughts! Yes, I think that Deepmind is as direct to use as the UBXa, but Deepmind has more to offer under the hood with a much more complex modulation matrix, so I see your point of using an app to adjust FXs. I think there is not much hidden in the UI of UBXa (and it also lacks effects) so I'm not sure it would bring a lot more in terms of usability. That said, I think an app could be nice to get a quick overview of all the settings for a certain patch with values visible immediately in front of you, instead of having the adjust a knob to find the value for the certain knob. I also hope the community will start sharing presets, both for free and commercial too, since everyone would gain. I may have to consider doing that when I made more patches from scratch 🙂 Do you have any sound example of your Deepmind patch to share?

    • @Emil_m
      @Emil_m 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @ my patch on DM sounds similar to the bass in "A Real Hero" from the movie "Drive". When I got DM I didn't have time to use it much and was almost considering selling it. So glad I spent more time with it, it's now my fav synth :) it's so fun to use and encourages exploration by being so intuitive and straightforward. I think in the past it was ok to make complicated UI/UX, but now days there's no reason for it. I like to be overwhelmed by functionality but not the interface. Some of the best designs are Hydrasynth and PolyBrute imho. Didn't like the sound of Hydra, but definitely want to try PolyBrute 12. Oh and Moog One, some day

      @patsonmusic 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@Emil_m Funny, that happens with many synths I've bought, like Pro-800 or Prophet 08. Especially the 08's factory patches were mostly annoying, but when I started making my own patches or simplifying factory patches the synth started to make sense. Also mixed feelings with the factory patches on UBXa, but it is growing on me! I have to give A Real Hero a listen, don't recognize it by the name.

      @patsonmusic 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks for watching! No, I haven't played the OB-X8, but it would be nice to try that out! I'm actually not that interested in how a synth compares to the one it is based on, I'm more interested in how it sounds, what I can do with it, if it triggers my inspiration and makes me wanna play it more. My first impressions of UB-Xa are good and it is a beast I still have to learn to tame. I'm not using mics, only for the occasional talk. I'm running the synths through a mixer and to a Roland Go Mixer Pro-X connected to my mobile phone, keeping it simple by only using the mobile phone camera, one, not many. In this way I can easily start recording and later cut out the video down to smaller pieces with minimal editing. Again the reason for this is to just play and not waste time on making it look fancy, since there are many other channels for that. I also so far played synth I've acquired myself 🙂

    its like the sound design team got together and thought.. what are the WORST sounding patches we can make for this synth? ...it has a great sound but factory patches are designed by absolute orangutans. Yes, I can't disagree with your statement. Many factory sounds are just over the top and I feel I have to adjust filters, LFO and modulation for every sound I play. Many sounds are very alike, too. Bank B with patches by the Synth King is better than Bank A. Anyway, I think Behringer could have provided one bank of great sounds and left the other banks empty for the user. Thanks for watching! ☺

For nostalgic reasons maybe nice, but I would have appreciated more new sounds. On the other hand the Pro-800 is very straightforward and nice to make your own sounds.

      Somewhat overlapping, but the Pro-800 with it's two oscillators and two envelopes is more flexible. JU-06A is hard to beat for nice pads, but the drawback is 4-voice polyphony so you really have to think how you play it to avoid cut notes. As you know 800 is 8-voice. 800 has a rawer sound. I think I would choose the 800 if I had to choose only one of them, but I like them both a lot. Good to keep in mind that the 800 has no effects at all, where the JU has delay and chorus. @@patsonmusic I realize that everyone looks at different key-features or what to call it. I am an owner of an OB-6 and that was just a lucky timing that I bought it in early years before the inflation else It would have been very unlikely that I chosen it for what it cost today. I think for me I look for the following features first of all and that is a clean interface and if possible an advanced modulation matrix. The OB6 is more of a pure tone with some modulation but at cost of limitations but that is not a problem since it's impossible to get more complex modulation without affecting the "raw tone" of the analogue signal path since it would require some work-arounds when we cannot lay down too many CV routes in a "pure analogue" way. However when it comes to analogue it's not always as easy as to think of it to be black or white there are some greyzones as well. Ok so here is my conclusion. I want to have a TEO-5 also for the reason to have a oberheim machine that offers a complex mod matrix but this do affect it to be less "raw" but that is what I actually look for to add up more colors to the palette. What I love with the OB6 is that it's very clean and easy to work with and it's not over engineered. Have a nice day!

I've sometimes struggled with the sends & returns to set it up correctly, cause they tend to mix the dry (uneffected signal) with the wet (effected) signal and instead of hearing the pedal 100% you only hear it 50% or similar, depending how you much you send out of the channel to the aux return. To make it more confusing some mixers also have direct inserts and then you may use the same plug for both out and in (but this I haven't used myself and I think your mixer does not support inserts, so you don't need to think about that). @patsonmusic 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, of course! There's the arpeggiator running on the JU-06A, a two octive up-and-down arp, and I play triads with my right hand. With my left I play the alpha Juno-1 (out of sight) and mainly the basic tone with a drone/brs sound. Chords are fairly simple, they are Dm Bb F Csus4 C, and the second part is Gm Dm Bb F. The trickier part is changing the cords at the right moment in the arpeggio sequence. And finally I'm only using the FA-07 I'm playing on, as a controller, connected via Midi to the JU-06A. Hopefully you are able to pick this out on your own keyboard now 🙂. What synths are you using?

      @@patsonmusic Thanks! I’m relatively new to synth, I’ve only got a Korg Minilogue XD but today I found out that the arpeggiator has a 2 octave rise and fall mode so that gets me started.

    I had exactly both the D50 given to my son and the other sold I miss it does the emulation work as well This material is professional, it costs a lot to manufacture

      Nice! What did you think about them both at the time? Did you prefer one over the other in some way? Here's a series where I'm playing both D-50 and the Roland Boutique D-05 . I think the D-05 sounds great and is a nice substitute for the D-50. It contains all the cards Roland released plus 8 user banks of patches. And if I layer both synths it sounds really massive. @@patsonmusic I am one of those who sold or gave them away at a time when it “was” almost obsolete. we all regret them the D50 is heavier and more professional, I think it's better to combine with another type of sound, Yamaha or Korg in a complementary way, or even with an organ or piano the D20 was combined with a Yamaha DSR2000 to "try" to make EQUINOXE it was in 1990 something like that even finding one, you need the parts and the repairer for maintenance and overhaul, so a real budget

      @@patsonmusic today the D50 would surely be very expensive in the 1990s having the D20 and in addition a Yamaha was already a lot at 20 years old, we took used ones, new ones were rare and expensive have you seen the price of a Jupiter today?

    • @patsonmusic
      @patsonmusic 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@studiodw12 Neither D-50 nor DX-7 are very expensive today, you can get them for 400-600€ even in pretty good shape. The Jupiters are very expensive and also expensive to maintain so I'm personally pretty happy with the newer versions, the Boutiques like JU-06a or JP-08, or Jupiter-X myself. I've had my D-50 since I bought it new in 1989. I also had a Juno-2 but sold it to get the D-50. I regretted selling it and bought a Juno-1 a few years ago, which is a great sounding synth!

    We still have an old D-20 lying around. It does sound "crusty" compared to the D-50. That said, it had an 8 track built in sequencer and was handy for live gigging and programming keyboard parts if you were short a keyboard player.

    • @patsonmusic
      @patsonmusic 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yes, they sound very different. The 8 track sequencer was a great feature. Sometimes I wounder why they didn't build it with the D-50 engine.
