Hey mate from Australia, you definitely need to rethink the amount of crap you are going to carry on your trip.

I'm struggling putting together the same tool kit.-lol The same seat bag is never big enough-:( After using my bike multi tool a few times, I found it pretty much worthless. So far I have a small ratchet screwdriver with Philips, standard and a 4mm Allen bits. One 5mm Allen key for the stupid proprietary Surly Troll rear axle, a few tire levers. Maybe one spare tube, still debating and of course an air pump. Anything major breaks, I may just call a tow truck-lol

Love your setup! The bike of legends! It's tough to decide what to bring and what to leave at home. What I would suggest is, pack everything on and ride up to a local park and do a day camp. Whatever you don't use, leave at home. Depending on where and how you are traveling, for example, are you going on an airplane? Do you really want to drag that ball & chain trailer? Some things to consider. At the end of the day it's your ride, go have fun!

That's a nice rig fella .... it's up to you how much you want to take ... just because ultralight bikepacking is the norm it doesn't make it the rule .... You could put a large set of panniers on the front fork and pack all the heavy stuff low at the front which will balance the bike better .... all you'd need is to fit a front rack to the fork ,,,, That said that's what I've got ...panniers front and back and I still have a trailer as well lol .... if you do decide on a trailer my advice is go for a single wheel as it tracks much better than a side by side ... especially on singletrack & offroad ... I can highly recommend the Burley Coho XC ... the Topeak Journey is another good option but not quite as versatile for loading as the Coho ... Happy trails chap ... just subbed so will follow your progress ... I'm just about to launch into youtube myself with my bike and trailer too 😉

What's the deal with the gearbox shell on these? Is that the case the gearbox is in? what's the symptoms of it going bad?

у этой модели мотоцикла неудачно спроектирован корпус воздушного фильтра - очень трудно снимать карбюраторы и ставить обратно после чистки, также на этом мотоцикле неудобно смотреть уровень масла, для такого высокооборотистого двигателя не хватает тахометра, маленький бак - всего 11 литров, трудно поймать нейтральное положение в пульте указателей поворотов, на ранних версиях мотоцикла есть проблема отрывания магнитов генератора, если ездите по ночам - нужно ставить дополнительный свет, на выключенном двигателе нельзя включить передачу выше первой, минусов много, но вообще мотоцикл хороший ) несмотря на большую мощность 45 лошадиных сил - мотоцикл хорош для начинающего мотоциклиста.

Good points, but you can always buy an older cheaper motorcycle for a trip like that. Yamaha did make the T700 a lot simpler than its competitors. I personally just love my ST for being a really good allrounder...I dropped it off-road and it is fucking heavy, but with the right technique and in those situations it was manageable. You have to buy the bike that fits your purpose and the conditions of where you’re riding...and quite frankly for European roads, riding an underpowered noodle can be just as dangerous as using a totally overpowered bike.

Writing things down, talking about lighting and cameras... it’s like you’ve moved past the Stone Age.
