Railfan Coast to Coast
เข้าร่วมเมื่อ 10 ก.ค. 2023
Hey there, just a bit about myself. I've been a railfan/foamer since I was about 12 years old. I started recording trains in the late 80's. My early videos were primarily recorded on VHS in Muskegon MI, Grand Rapids MI and Porter Indiana. I have recorded thousands of videos over the years throughout the USA and Germany. I just recently decided to start uploading them to TH-cam. Looking back through my library, it's amazing the amount of rail history that I've captured. I will continue to upload my video collection. I hope you enjoy this channel and subscribe.

I'm at Willow Creek on Feb 7 and 8. I went to Valparaiso Indiana and caught one CN train there. I stopped by Porter before heading home to Michigan. On March 5 I'm in Grand Rapids by the GM plant watching NS switch out box cars. Then it's back to Indiana on March 7 to catch a few CSX at Willow Creek and Ogden Dunes to catch a few NS before heading to Chicago on the South Shore.

Great action at Altoona 👍🏻
Thanks man. It was a great time to railfan the mountain.
It sure was, I love the switch engine with the engineer, sitting in the cab looking around
I know that was a surprise to see that.
SD40E''S( EX SD50 'S just getting into Service in Helper Set v
Great action, love the GP-15 at Willow Creek
Thanks man, I love those Gp15's
and not a single C6M in sight this is nice
I was there back when they still has an operator there. Chessie/NW The operator had a mural of the American Freedom Train on the side of his van. I should have photoed it. (Could have been the Chessie Steam Special) Just a couple years ago, they tore down F tower here. Unable to sell it off. I did photo F tower though.
I wish I could have been there when it was Chessie/NW. I haven't been there in a long time and didn't realize they torn down the tower.
So much power variety in the first few minutes. Also, amazing K5L on NS 9336
30:21 Cool to see 7504 with the Leslie RS3L. I got a few videos of it later that year and they were my first uploads to get decent views, lol
I'm always surprised to see horn swaps on fairly new locomotives. I have a feeling the guys in the shop started taking the Leslies home.
Love the clip at 20:25... fantastic audio. That quilling, distant K5H with the GE prime mover chugging and flange squeals growing closer. I live for these kinds of sounds Cool to see the layout in Chicago again too, I went there and saw it on a family vacation in 2005.
Thank you, my friend. I live for the sounds and the smells of the railroad. Yes, that layout is awesome. I appreciate you watching.
It's nice to see video of engineers not blarring the horns.
Uhh dude, are you deaf or something? They were blaring their horns at every crossing they approach to. :/
Horn Happy you know the ones too!!
Awesome trains Scotty 👍🏻
Thanks buddy! I do appreciate it.
25:14 there's a few sd50 that are still active on the CSX roster but I think they're upgraded to SD50- 3
11:38 and 41:05 I always have to mention it... nice K5H
50:47 is that an SD70M or a 59MX.
That is a SD60M. Thanks for watching.
So many 80MACs! I only caught two of them while they were in service, back in 2015. Obviously, both were repainted by that point. One of them was 7200, which shows up in this vid.
That was a great time to catch a lot of the SD80MACs at Cresson before they got rid of all of them.
Ex Seaboard SD40-2 leader with it's original RS5T, man I wish it was even possible to see that today Lol great catch!
I know it was an awesome time to go railfanning. I tried getting out to catch all of the older stuff as much as I could. I'm glad you are enjoying these videos. Thanks for watching
16:48 Loved the sound of the GE chugging and the K5H echoing under the bridge.
what street are the videos taken at 4:20 and 5:35
I am standing next to 15th st. Jackson is the next crossing to the west.
20:29 9818 has since been rebuilt into I believe an AC44C6M It still serves Union Pacific today
4:50 Heritage II paint on a Dash-8. I wondered why it looked strange at first. I'm so used to seeing all of the Dash-9s that BNSF has.
I caught BNSF 890 back in 2005... same case. It honestly may have been the only H2 Dash 8 I saw while they were in service.
2:05 No hi-viz vests. I guess these were still the good ol' days. 21:22 Cool FMC Chemicals hopper 22:50 GP40 leading a full-size manifest
Awesome 👏 trains, great job 👍🏻
Thanks buddy. Thanks for watching.
The Doppler at 0:38 is beautiful it almost seems really sad, miss those SD50-2s
does anyone know what the horn name at 9:32 is?
First gen K5LA, back when the horns were actually good @NeistMKII
The good days
I’ve seen 53 on Texas Eagle 21 before, but the good horn that it had since 2008 was turned into a bad horn
Wow, LOTS of power variety in this one.
It's interesting how the little details have changed over the years such as crossing, locomotives, and signals. Great video!
Thank you for watching. I know a lot has changed since then.
That was taken the day after I was born. Back when railfanning was exciting when you see Classic Power, Foreign Power, and Fallen Flags. Surprising that they were once common on Class 1 Railroads back then.
Yes it was a great time to railfan. I'm glad you are enjoying these videos. Thanks for watching.
At one time, a great place to watch trains.
Yes, it was an awesome spot. I wish I could have gotten down there when it was Chessie and NW
Always weird to see a CSX ACe, that was a short lived phase. I was almost exclusively railfanning NS lines until about 2018 so I never caught one. They're almost like an urban legend to me 40:48 I caught 9049 a couple years later in Terre Haute... ditch lights were messed up and flashing in sync when I got it. 42:19 Amazing sight, sure do miss seeing those around. 47:30 Great lashup
6:27 That poor P5 is in a world of trouble As always, man does this make me miss the variety in motive power. You never knew when you'd get a classic EMD, widecab EMD, narrow cab GE, etc. Nowadays you get a GEVO or, if you're lucky, an ACe. And that's just on the NS. CSX seems even more limited.
It seems like the crossing bells at Columbus Ave. don't ring most of the time.
2:32 Amazing Doppler 8:20 I saw the same unit just a few months before this clip. Apparently it has a K5LAB, which is a super rare horn. 19:54 Another K5LAB. Maybe they used to be a little more common 45:57 Classic K5H 53:56 Possibly the crown jewel of the whole thing. Appropriate that it's at the end of the video If the traffic in Fostoria is still anything like that, I need to get over there someday
Fostoria is a great spot but I don't think it's as busy now. Thanks for watching.
Yeah, I've watched Railstream's live camera there and it is certainly not as busy. I've heard this spot saw 115 a day around 20 years ago. The variety definitely isn't there.
Awww man the gevo-lution has begun
Yes indeed. The railroads were still running low noses and high hoods back then just not as many.
I was about 13 when it happened... I was just excited that there was new power rolling around. Little did I realize that was going to be the majority of mainline power for years to come... still going on now.
@@LotusbandicootRR ........pain.........
9:20 My Favorite Shortline 🎉❤ That horn sounds just like the recent Michigan Shore Engine: MMRR #2170 back in 2020 m.th-cam.com/video/pYkkHuphTic/w-d-xo.html&t
32:30 As an EL nut, very cool to see these. I'd assume those hoppers are out of service by now. 55:06 Amazing lashup
Some real nice variety in this one buddy thanks for posting.
Thanks for watching. I agree that was a great time for variety.
Several great K5LAs in this one. Also, sounds like you caught an e-bell glitch on that crossing just before the 23:00 mark
I was 9 years old that year
Awesome
Thank you so much for watching. I'm glad you are enjoying them.
Thank you for these older videos, can't believe 2008 is 16 years ago already. So much interesting stuff on the rails in 2008, these videos are a treasure trove.
I'm glad I get to share them with everyone on TH-cam. I can't believe it's been 16 years already, it seems like yesterday. Thank you so much for watching.
Nice K5L around the 4:00 mark! (I assume K5L and not a K5H?) One of my favorite horns and definitely a rarity on Amtrak. 161 also ended up becoming the Phase I heritage unit. 30:49 Also rare... C39-8E third out. NS only ran 25 of them and retired them in '09. I was lucky to see a few back in the day. 34:32 Amazing RS3K Doppler 44:00 I didn't think UP SD70Ms still had K5LAs by this time. Also a rarity
8:30 Poor crew that got stuck with that horn. Sounds like a P3... and if it is, that's about the sickest one I've ever heard. 26:37 I caught that unit a couple years earlier and even as a kid who didn't know horns yet, I knew something was different about that horn. Pretty rare for an NS Dash 9 to have an RS3L (Even rarer is the C40-9 with an RS5T just a couple trains after) Anyway, there were still some great lashups in those days
52:08 The Milwaukee Road
Screaming SD40s, very nice 👍🏻
Yes they were. Thanks buddy
Cool stuff from 2008 !!
Thank you very much!
Cool video are you familiar with Newaygo county?
Yes, we used to camp up at Croton Park when I was a kid and my brother moved to Newago about 5 years ago.
I've always wanted to catch a train going across the Muskegon River there.
@@Railfancoasttocoast I am sorry I deleted that comment because I miss spoke. She has a Grant address and go’s to Freakmont
Oh yeah, that happens a lot if you are close to a border of another county. I do like the little town of Grant.
I didn't think it was humanly possible to see that many trains in a day... from what I hear, it sounds like traffic on the Chicago Line and Garrett Sub isn't quite what it was in those days. Also I knew that horn at 53:49 sounded familiar... I caught that same unit in '09.
Those KCS SD40-2s in the primer paint ended up on the Panama Canal railroad system. KCS 653 went to PCRC 1866 and KCS 663 went to PCRC 1867.
Oh really, I did not know that. I thought at the time it was cool to see them go through Porter. Thanks for the info and thanks for watching.
@@Railfancoasttocoast sure man!
Empty coal train to the Porter Branch at 5:14 - quite a rare sight.
That was very rare to see that. Thanks for watching
