Cleaning MAFS / MAPS on BA Falcon
มุมมอง 22K5 ปีที่แล้ว
I've called it the Mass Air Flow Sensor / Mass Air Pressure Sensor here because that makes it easier for people to find, but I the proper term is Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor (thanks Christopher Hoffman for the correction) on this vehicle. So I cleaned this sensor on my BA Falcon, and I took a video after I had disassembled it so it might be of some use to people.

    How'd you go? My neighbors old Falcon might need this done. It's cutting out randomly

      This improved the running of the car, but I never quite fully fixed the issue of it running rich. I changed the O2 sensor as well. The ECU probably needed a new map, but Ford charge something like $500 for a one off digital code to change the mapping.

    Is there a gasket required when removing the throttle body

    • @JohnStewien
      @JohnStewien ปีที่แล้ว

      There was a gasket on there, it didn't get damaged so I didn't need to change it. Fortunately the gasket wasn't glued on both sides. The throttle body at idle lets through more air than a small gap in the gasket would, and the pressure sensor is below the throttle body, so small leaks in the gasket should have no effect. Fuel is injected at the intake manifold, so there's not going to be any issues that would have affected a carburetor where an air leak can change the fuel/air ratio.

    Liqui Moly German product coast aroun $30 in super chep, solving all this problem without any dismantling of trotle body. Only dust cover from trotle has to be removed and with long hose in can of product spraying in manifold clean everything inside quick and after that engine idle is nice and smode and preformance ofcourse.Removing MAP sensor on Falcons on botom of trotle body is little dificult ,because they put on side very small bolts which you need short socket for removing or small spener 7mm.

      @@sedhain_pankaj Cheers mate , are plugs & coils the reason for the shaky idle , I disconnected one coil at a time and each time it dropped that cylinder from firing , isn’t that the test ? To find the one that doesn’t change when disconnecting ?

    Thanks for that. Did anything improve ?

    • @JohnStewien
      @JohnStewien 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nothing improved much. I put in a new sensor, which is a hassle because there's not much clearance between the securing bolt and the fuel rail, and still didn't fix my problem. Had 3 mechanics look at the problem of my engine running rough. No solutions yet. Going to try a second hand throttle body this weekend.

    • @Superdisco199
      @Superdisco199 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hmmm no good. First thing to replace on these motors when running rough is the PCV valve usually ? Did you try hooking up a cheap ELM327 to get any readings ? I swapped over my o2 sensor which was a waste of time. Throttle body and TPS as well. Mine idles ok (egas) but then something goes funny and flatspots with poor power/economy, TPS is my next stop. Did you test for air leaks around the inlet manifold ?

    • @JohnStewien
      @JohnStewien 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I've replaced the PCV, hooked up an elm327, new plugs, leads, coils, borrowed a set of injectors, no change or indications of a problem . Did the O2 sensor. I have a big flatspot from 2000 to 4000 rpm. 98 fuel gives me the least problems. Car is undrivable on 91. E85 was problematic. Putting a litre of kero in the tank fixes the problem once the car warms up but makes it worse when the car is cold. Haven’t checked for air leeks round the inlet manifold. Down on power at high rev too. Used to be able to accelerate hard to 180, now flattening out around 150.

      John Stewien fuel pumps and filter are a usual problem with these cars

    • @JohnStewien
      @JohnStewien 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@sharons9367 The problem seems to be too much fuel getting in. Oddly I think it's just the number 1 cylinder with the problem.
