Using Google Forms to quiz students
Questioning matters. Research suggests many students go 10 class hours without being asked a single question! We often ask questions of students in class, but hear from only one or two eager beavers. Using a quick online quiz tool like Google Forms makes it possible to question every student. This means our class discussions can be more powerful and inclusive, and no student gets an 'out'.

What Makes Teachers Special? - Pedagogical Content Knowledge
มุมมอง 83K6 ปีที่แล้ว
What makes a teacher special? What does a teacher need to know? What is the most important thing a new teacher needs to develop? Teachers have a very particular type of knowledge. The old saying that if you can't do, teach, sells short what teachers know. Pedagogical Content Knowledge described the knowledge teachers develop about how to teach particular subjects to particular people. This conc...

The Hawthorne Effect - Or Why Everything Works
มุมมอง 194K6 ปีที่แล้ว
The Hawthorne Effect describes the curious reality that humans under observation usually perform better than those who are unobserved. This means that when designing a case study observation you need to be aware of this effect. But it can be used to your advantage. A PL program consisting only of observation will almost certainly improve teacher practice. The Hawthorne Effect can also be used t...
Cognitive Load Theory 4 - How to test learning?
มุมมอง 26K6 ปีที่แล้ว
How can we judge how much a student has learned during an experiment? In Cognitive Load Theory experiments, we usually rely on either tests of recall or transfer to judge learning. But what are they?
Cognitive Load Theory 3 - intrinsic, extraneous, germane.
มุมมอง 78K6 ปีที่แล้ว
The three types of load in Cognitive Load Theory give us serious tips to design our instruction better. While I have presented three types of load here - Intrinsic, Extraneous, and Germane, some theorists suggest that Germane load is not a thing. guys like Slava Kalyuga say that only the first two load types are needed for Cognitive Load Theory to work. While this may be true, I tend to agree w...
Cognitive Load Theory 2 - Working and Long Term memory
มุมมอง 39K6 ปีที่แล้ว
What is your memory? Well, there is more than one type of memory. Your short term memory deals with processing incoming data from the world, and with integrating it into your pre-existing knowledge. Your long term memory stores schemas, or interconnected webs of information.
Cognitive Load Theory 1 - An introduction

An introduction to one of the most influential theories in educational design. Cognitive Load Theory outlines the limitation of the human information processing system - how much you can learn at once.
Constructivism vs Positivism - a false debate?
มุมมอง 35K6 ปีที่แล้ว
Constructivist and Positivist theories are diametrically opposed, but that doesn't mean they both aren't right. Sometimes in education arguments arise about the best way to teach, or what learning really means. Like most arguments, these are characterised by extremes. Young teachers should consider when to use a direct teaching method, and when to embrace exploration.

So that's why it's always easier for the students, that attends all the classes and focus on understanding the topic, do not need long time to learn new stuff in opposite to those who do not attend all the classes espacilly when it comes to math. The students that learned the prior knowladge will need less time to connect the new topic to the older topic in the long term memory, whereas, the other needs to process the previous topics alongside the new topic

Teachers arent special. they nearly killed Maths Physics and English to name but a few subjects with their bored rhetoric. It was the same in school, Tech college and finally university. In my experience they are egotistic, patronising, verbose and my god so boring. They specialise in taking the wonderful thing that is a subject and reduce it to a mundanity that is profound. The techniques used in any classroom or lecture theatre are archaic to say the least. Thank god for youtube where you can watch people (sometimes teachers) but who have a genuine PASSION for what they teach AND are good at it. Not a fan sorry.

      @Kovie_Sprout 3 ปีที่แล้ว

I'm sorry you never had genuinely passionate teachers and only experienced the egotistical, patronizing, and verbose/boring teachers. I've had numerous educators teach and inspire me throughout my life and I will never forget their impact on me (and I agree there are terrible teachers that create impact as well). I think it's too harsh to categorize ALL teachers in this negative hue, but you are entitled to your own opinion. There are so many aspects that go into what makes teachers effective in their work (resources, students' communities, credentials/qualifications, administration, etc). Thankful you were able to use TH-cam as an outlet for learning.

unfortunately, it works. We all wish the world would be different but reality is what it is. You cannot change basic human behaviour. Thus, it is better to recognise it for what it is and acknowledge its useful purposes.
