Gary Melnick - SPHEREx: Understanding How New Worlds Obtain the Basic Ingredients for Life
When interstellar water was first detected in 1969 (through its 22 GHz maser transition), only five other molecules were known to exist in interstellar space, only eight planets beyond the Earth were known, the manner in which our solar system formed was unclear, and whether life might be possible beyond the Earth and our solar system was pure speculation. In the intervening 55 years, the advances have been nothing short of breathtaking. We now know of more than 330 interstellar and circumstellar molecules and molecular ions, some of which are complex organic building blocks of life. We also know of more than 5,700 confirmed extrasolar planets, including 963 multi-planet systems, and we routinely observe other solar systems in the making. All these discoveries encourage the belief that the chemistry in interstellar space is rich, and the products of this chemistry are likely inherited by a multitude of solar systems, some with Earth-like planets and moons in their habitable zones. As the ubiquity of this arc of evolution from molecular cloud to protoplanetary disk comes into increasing focus, the role of water and other key biological ingredients have assumed even greater interest, particularly the role of ices as the major conveyor of these key species to newly forming planets. I will review a few highlights of this journey to understand water’s indispensable role and the giant next steps we hope to take with SPHEREx, a NASA Medium-class Explorer Mission. Scheduled for launch in February 2025, SPHEREx is designed to conduct an all-sky spectroscopic survey between 0.75 µm and 5 µm. Among its goals, SPHEREx will carry out an unprecedented study of the abundance and distribution of biologically important ices throughout the Milky Way by means of absorption spectroscopy. This talk will discuss the impact of increasing the number of ice sightlines observed from a current value of several hundred to more than 9.9 million.

With gravity waves traveling at the speed of light we therefore are measuring the uppermost and least level of the permeability and permittivity of space and this proves that there is a speed limit or force of resistance to lights speed whose fingerprint on one side is lightspeed/gravity waves and the other is dark energy. If Rubin's galaxy is 10x as wide, long, and deep as the Milky Way, wouldn't that mean it's 1000x, not 100x as massive? Similarly, IC1101 is said to have merely 1 trillion stars, which seems like a massive underestimate. At 2 million light years across, IC1101 is 8000x the size of the Milky Way. Therefore, it can have up to a quadrillion stars. Most stars in the Milky Way are red dwarves. Therefore, a lack of supernova in the largest galaxies is no excuse to underestimate the quantity of stars. Rather, it just means the proportion of faint stars is much larger. Lastly, the most massive part of a galaxy is cold hydrogen, not stars. Therefore, fewer supernova is no excuse to underestimate mass.

CMB is two dimensional, is it possible to have a three dimensional CMB?
I am yet to see how CMB is read, even Penrose cannot show how his CCC is proved by Hawking points. But I never saw the points.
Here is the explanation for the CMB- General Relativity predicts dilation not singularities. In the 1939 journal "Annals of Mathematics" Einstein wrote - "The essential result of this investigation is a clear understanding as to why the Schwarzchild singularities (Schwarzchild was the first to raise the issue of General Relativity predicting singularities) do not exist in physical reality. Although the theory given here treats only clusters (star clusters) whose particles move along circular paths it does seem to be subject to reasonable doubt that more general cases will have analogous results. The Schwarzchild singularities do not appear for the reason that matter cannot be concentrated arbitrarily. And this is due to the fact that otherwise the constituting particles would reach the velocity of light" He was referring to the phenomenon of dilation (sometimes called gamma or y) mass that is dilated is smeared through spacetime relative to an outside observer. A graph illustrates its squared nature, dilation increases at an exponential rate the closer you get to the speed of light. Time dilation is just one aspect of dilation, it's not just time that gets dilated. Einstein is known to have repeatedly said that singularities cannot exist. Nobody believed in them when he was alive including Plank, Bohr, Schrodinger, Dirac, Heisenberg, Feynman, etc. Dilation will occur wherever there is an astronomical quantity of mass because high mass means high momentum. Dilation is the original and correct explanation for why we cannot see light from the galactic center. There is no singularity at the center of our galaxy. It can be inferred mathematically that the mass there must be dilated. This means that there is no valid XYZ coordinate we can attribute to it, you can't point your finger at something that is smeared through spacetime. More precisely everywhere you point is equally valid. In other words that mass is all around us. Sound familiar? This is the explanation for the abnormally high rotation rates of stars in spiral galaxies. The "missing mass" is dilated mass. This also explains the CMB. We are receiving radiation from the galactic center but it comes from all directions. If the WMAP satellite was positioned outside the bounds of our galaxy it would record a background radiation of near zero. Dilation does not occur in galaxies with low mass centers because they do not have enough mass to achieve relativistic velocities. To date, 6 very low mass galaxies including NGC 1052-DF2 and DF4 have been confirmed to show no signs of dark matter. This also explains why all planets and all binary stars have normal rotation rates, not 3 times normal. The concept of singularities is preventing clarity in astronomy.
What about Krumholz work that showed that the mass scale that determines the characteristic scale based on just physical constants and the dependence of temperature is through pressure to the power 1/18 showing the universalisty of IMFs since even six orders of increase in pressure would change this by only an order of 2

What can we or our children do to survive such a flip? I am most worried for the younger generations.. I dont know that having a "bunker" is a smart move. Water comes rushing in and covers air vents etc and if manage to survive that lets just say, what happens when waters dont receed.. not to mention earthquakes that will be occuring. Think Noah had the right idea. . I wonder also about biblically speaking, we arent to be tried by water this go round but by fire. . How does that correlate with pole shift?

I’ve wondered about all of that as well. Underground doesn’t feeI like a safe plan. With that amount of water everything will be covered with water, debris and silt. You’d potentially become buried, not to mention how earthquakes will compromise something underground.I keep coming back to Noah’s solution of something that floats but is held in place for the initial impact so that you’re not at the front of the wave.

Enjoyed the lecture. I think the looming question is not that of the existence of cosmic background, or even the details presented here that enforce its presence. It will shortly become a question of interpretation. This challenge will come to the foreground, pending peer review and publication early next year of at least two teams studying the deep field James Webb Space Telescope images. These have discovered countless fully formed spiral galaxies with 2nd generation stars (over a billion years old) in existence, some of these a mere 180 million light years from a supposed Big Bang. If this is corroborated, the Big Bang theory has a big problem. So does redshift and background radiation interpretation. Putting the Big Bang galaxy production timescale in context, our Milky Way galaxy rotates once every 200 million years. It doesn't seem conceivable that these galaxies could have come into existence in so short a time. If these galaxies exist where the Big Bang predicted a "Dark Ages", it would follow that cosmic redshift, used to predict this phenomenon must be a misinterpretation of the data. If so, logic would dictate that using cosmic redshift as an evolutionary measuring stick for supporting a Big Bang argument is an invalid proposition. One can't use an erroneous misinterpretation of data to support a theory. Such reasoning is like a snake trying to eat its own tail. Should it turn out that the Big Bang and the interpretation of redshift as an evolutionary yardstick both be proved unreliable, then the hinges of cosmic background radiation interpretation must surely be a door that is going to be flung wide open?
