One of my favorite films. I wish the entire song had been included here.

I love the Coen brothers films (most, anyway), and this is a beautifully done Western. Most films I watch that are based on a novel come up short of the book - not this one. Charles Portis' tale is a masterpiece - so is this film.

Glenn Campbell did his best to ruin a great movie with his painful attempting at acting.....I think Matt Damon was intentionally chosen for his comparable lack of skill...

It was perfect to set the mood for the scene by playing, Leaning On The Everlasting Arms

The book is fantastic too.

Then there's the other side of the coin. Visit enough old acquaintances one last time and realize shortly after that it was indeed one last time. A person starts feeling like a grim reaper. And yet I still make an effort if the opportunity arises. I once looked up a couple on the occasion of their 70th anniversary. They were friends of a mutual friend who had long passed. For a few hours I brought back memories of that mutual friend. About a year later they were both gone, dying within a month of each other. Love the ending of this movie.

When I was a kid the John Wayne version stuck with me. I am from Brasil and there was one channel that had westerns every monday. The scene in wich a 14 year old would just cross the river and go into wild country is stuck in my mind. Maybe it is for sentimental reasons I like both movies the same, but all in all, I think the modern one is certainly one of the great movies shot in this century.

Agree with the comments this remake of True Grit is superb. The acting of all the cast, the attention to detail of the period is excellent watch it and enjoy

I am from south korea, And i just watched this movie with my two children, 8 and 10. In the tv. It is hard to understand from some scenes because of culture and atmosphere of air. There are any hint of labeuof? In the movie, she said that no news from him. My two children are very conscious of him, i dont know reason.

The original film had two major miscasts.Kim Darby had no charisma at all.Glen Campbell couldn't act.

A very poignant ending. Less upbeat than the John Wayne version, but very satisfying and appropriate to the story.

The original never explained what happened to Mattie and Rooster. Now we know...

"Time just gets away from us". When I was young I didn't believe or understand that . But I have since learned the hard way , that it is so true , and I understand it so well .

I thought the final scene was a real letdown. She went from being a lively spirited young woman with lots of potential to a dried up old spinster with a sharp tongue and bad attitude.

I have to wonder if the writers got Jonesboro, Arkansas mixed up with Jonesboro, Georgia. Having lived in the former for most of my life, I can say there are no confederate cemeteries here. Jonesboro, Georgia does have at least one that I'm aware of, though. Was it like that in the novel?

I'm sorry to rain on the parade but this movie isn't remotely as good as the original. There are some movies that were done to perfection and John Wayne put the nail in that coffin.

Time does get away from us. Try and enjoy every day. We dont get that many
