Village Of Aglen | Село Ъглен | Summer Fair (панаир) | Traditional Bulgarian Dancing
Hey Guys!
Welcome to my village annual Summer Fair - панаир!
The summer fair is usually set towards the end of the summer holidays, and runs all weekend.
Not all villages have a fair, luckily ours has one every year bringing villagers from surrounding area to celebrate the fair.
It usually happens over a weekend and the official opening is on the friday evening. The mayor would welcome everyone with a short speech which is usually followed by some traditional music (this year we had a live band) and traditional dancing from the region. The dancing included pre-school children from the village, primary and secondary schools from nearby villages. This year we had guest performances from Lovech as well. Once all the formal dances are finished the public usually start dancing together in a formation also called the Horo. You really get a sense of the community when you see this happening and leaves you with a warm feeling inside.
It is all about the children. The fair is all about having fun. Normally the food would be mini donuts, pancakes, pop corn, candyfloss, Slush puppy drinks and a barbeque with delicious traditional bulgarian salads and side dishes.
The atmosphere is full of happy energy from the kids as they jump on trampolines, jumping castles and participate in all the usual fair games.
Usually the opening ceremony is concluded with spectacular fireworks.
In the video you will see a lot of traditional dancing, I hope you enjoy watching it as much as we did.

Beans go over the toast!
Delicious looking finish. Will give it a go later this fall. Comfort food. Will pick up some brown bread to go along with these gems.
Lovely ❤
Can't say it's the classic recipe, but it's good enough. Little advice from me. You save much time by removing the seeds and stems before roasting the peepers. The other time wasting process is cooking and grinding. The cooking can be made in the oven usualy at night few hours at 180c covered and then without lid until required thickness will need a little more oil. No need to fry it slowly, we make big batches so if you fry it a person must watch it at all the time until ready. The fastest way to grind, is to use meat grinder. I didn't see you use spices but usualy we like black pepper, cumin maybe little nutmeg. Now that I think about it the commercial and fastest way to make it is to remove the seeds of the peppers without roasting, cut the tomatoes without removing the skins and seeds, cook everything in the oven and when you grind use the addon that is for removing seeds and skins of tomatoes. This is the fastest way, but it have 2 shortcomings if you not roast the peppers you lose the smoky flavor. And if you use this addon, the end product will be with very fine consistency. Usualy people like it coarser... And last, why do you need to remove the seeds?!? The answer is simple, the lutenica is not ready for at least a week after sterilization. The flavor changes after a little time in the jars. If you have seeds the flavor change don't always go in the right direction and as we make big batches you really don't need bad flavored lutenica. The other seeds problem is if you use blender if there are many seeds inside the blender usually break them and they release bitter and other irritating elements in the flvor. So less seeds better taste.
@jordant.6896 Thank you for the great comment! This is what we are looking for... Proper ways how to make Lutenitsa.. This is our 4rd year making it now and we are still learning new things about it! Thanks for the great advice! 👌🏻🤗..Please share my channel 🙏🏻 🙂
why would anyone want to imitate Heinz when you could make real baked beans?
@BernardProfitendieu U'll be surprised how nice these are! Not 100% like heinz .. made slightly differently... These are my own 🤗👌🏻
@@ScotsmanInBulgaria carry on! 😄👍
What month it was taken? what to expect in October in terms of temperature? clothes ? rain ? seems no flow of water there.
@@dannygud This was taken last year in October... There had not been much rain that month.. .. Temperature was roughly 25oc at that time.. Still shorts and t-shirt weather 👍🏻
@dannygud This year has been the worst drought in over 20 years apparently.. heard most of the waterfalls throughout Bulgaria have basically dried up or at a small trickle... It's best to visit them in the spring or Autumn times for full flows 👌🏻
Lovely to watch such simple but pleasure able traditions.
We always enjoyed the village celebrations, and the traditional dancers, it's wonderful that the younger generation continue the traditions. The costumes are lovely and the dances can be complex and fun. Well done to your wee girlie.
@NewBulgarians We are very happy we can be here and be a part of these kinds of traditions!! Love Bulgaria!! 😍 🇧🇬 ❤️
Congrats for strict following the rules. I reccommend to add boiled carrots too next time
@ChristiyanNaydenovOfficial Thanks for your comment 🤗... We will definitely try adding carrots next time ...As I put in the video... this is our version of Lutenitsa that we personally like .. 🤗👌🏻
Great video. Very good guide. Enjoyed it very much.
A great property and a very nice organization of it. Congrats! 2 suggestions. It would be beneficial if you do not put the chopped wood direcly on the floor but on wooden pallets as that will improve the air circulation and will help the drying process. Also in the 2 black barrels, for the summer hot water, if you enclose them in small glass/transparent-poly enclosures (dome shape will be the best), that will increase considerably 50%-80% the heat retention capabilities. Enjoy your wonderful place with your family through the seasons as everyone is unique by itself.
@EfficientEnergyTransformations Thank You for your comment and the great advice!! Yes we have been here 5 years but we are still learning new things all the time 🤗👌🏻
I remember being there . Very interesting place. Definitely have to have a hard hat on if it was uk. 😀
@bazerk856 was a very interesting cave!! Very beautiful in parts... If your short like me it's ok 🤣

Very nice place to visit. I'm told by my Bulgarian wife that I have been there but I can't remember.
Interesting video, what are the winters like compared to Edinburgh thanks
@dieselpete4053 Hi 👋🏻 Good Question! 👍🏻.. We have been here 5 years and each winter has been slightly different to the last... It's fairly similar to Edinburgh but when have a big snowstorm we get over 12 inches of snow.. Check my video from last November.. that was nearly 18" and destroyed a lot of trees...
Amazing garden. 👏 must be a lot of work. You all keep it looking fabulous. What a lovely way of life
@bazerk856 Thank You!! Yes it's almost a full time job keeping up with it 😀👌🏻.. But it's our life now and we love it!! ❤️ 🌱🌻🍇🍎🍐🍆🥔🥕🌽🌶🫑🥒🥬🥦🧄
Many tks...
We will definitely be trying these out when we move over. Thank you.
Che meraviglia dove sono io i susini costano 3.50 euro al kg li sono gratis 👍👏🍒🍏🍑🍊
Brilliant recipes. All of which I will try if and when we move over there. I go to sofia sometimes and you do see these wild plum trees everywhere. Usually making a mess on the pavements because nobody seems to pick them. Strange I know I would.
People don't pick them often in the cities because the trees are usually close to roads and the fruit is considered unhealthy to eat due to all the car exhaust surrounding it
@@susanstohelit3114 good point
Darren would have loved that log for a bird feeder or bug shelter/house. The garden is looking fab. Does your village have the water turned off much/at all? I can't remember if you have a well.
@NewBulgarians Hi 👋🏻..Thanks for the comment! 😃.. We occasionally have water outages.. mainly due to pipes bursting around the village .. We don't have a Well... We are on a hill which doesn't help lol 😆
@@ScotsmanInBulgaria One of our houses was on a hill at the top of the village and we didn't have a well either. We were always one of the first houses to lose water pressure and no water whenever there was a problem. Good that it's only occasional though.
Thanks for a great recipe and instruction video!
@@chrisholds1 Thank you for the lovely feedback 🤗... I'm glad you like my video...👌🏻❤️... We always make our own beans now 😃👍🏻
So happy to see that the Nectarine tree rebounded from the snowstorm last year!
@danaindallas4316 us too! We are over joyed!! Been giving to lots of love ❤️ 👌🏻
Why do you paint base of tree white does it deter bugs.
This Rose festival video from Kazanlak has brought back our memories of Rose festival we enjoyed in 2020. All looking good, toms are doing great!
I'm going to need to refer to your video on caring for raspberries as we have some in our garden, but not until we live there. They didn't look great when we last saw them, hopefully they're not dead.
Your homestead is amazing. Nice and neat.
Thank you ...

Great walk about mate. You should do more videos like this in the surrounding villages and cities
Thanks for the feedback 🤗... Yes I plan to do that soon 😀 👌🏻
next time you use haggis or mince in the banitsa, try mixing it with kiselo zele (sauerkraut)
@svetoslavivanov5978 that's a great idea 💡.. I love to experiment with different ingredients 👌🏻😀
I can understand you both which surprises me because I had a very hard time when I visited Scotland. Are you guys trying hard or is that your true accent? 😮
@dmo8343 I'm born and brought up in Edinburgh but my wife is from South Africa 👌🏻😊
It warms my heart to see people experiment with bulgarian food. Banitsa has a lot of untapped potential for different fillings :)
@dmo8343 Thank you!! 😊.. I love the idea of fusion between Bulgarian & Scottish ingredients and came up with the haggis Banitsa 🤗 ..
Amazing. Water looks clean enough to drink.
So interesting and beautiful how they have used it. Thank you for sharing.
This isn't "lutenitsa" because you skipped many ingredients and added your own. But as long as you like it, that's what matters! I would love to make your version and try it out for myself! God bless you!
Great video again. Just be better without the background music
Hey man another nice video, did you checked out the old roman fortress on the other street side? And when you will bring the Magura vid online?
Looks like an incredible place - thanks.

Thats lovely, tq for sharing the video, watching from Malaysia
I thought you were around the corner, here near Melnik, better Kashi a is also a waterfall with the name Skoka... And the wine is really good to degustate
Nice little stroll from the town to the waterfall, was there a couple of months ago but didn't get the privilege of spotting a salamander!
