I love U2 & am always appreciative when someone does an enlightening deep dive such as this! Thank you! Stay has always hit me emotionally. More than the evocative lyrics tho it’s Bono’s delivery (as usual) that gets me. I love the Boston Fleet Center 2001 version performed the top of the heart. Bono & Edge sharing 1 mic & Edge’s gorgeous acoustic playing….Bono commits to every song so intensely….its wonderful. I truly enjoyed your video!! Thx!
Thank you so much! Love this comment, I think this is Bono’s best lyrically, “dressed up like a car crash…” is such a great line! Thank you for your awesome comment
Thank you for this deep musical analysis.
Thank you! I’m glad you enjoyed this episode!
I remember very well hearing motorcycle emptiness for the first time back in 1992 which completely blew me away but I didn’t like their other tunes at that time and lost interest until I heard ADFL and then became obsessed with them after hearing Kevin Carter which interestingly I didn’t like on first listen but the lyrics & music intrigued me. Discovered THB after buying their back catalogue which is obviously a favorite now. But I have really enjoyed all their albums and Critical Thinking I am also really looking forward to having enjoyed all the singles released so far 👍
I was totally the same about Kevin Carter! The true story behind it and the imagery totally captured my imagination!
@@TheLastMixedTapeIRL Yes indeed it’s a personal fav of mine. The story behind it and the meaning of the lyrics made me even more interested in the song and I finally realized that it was the sound of a vulture I was hearing at intervals in the song. By far my favorite music video of theirs..breathtaking trumpet solo also..absolute classic!

This is amazing! Thank you for sending it on!
@ - my pleasure! Dublin always brings the best out in Bono and the boys.
Acthung baby is their best , the reinventing of themselves has to be commended , they could’ve just done another Joshua tree , but they took the risk
I wanted to listen to this but the sound is very low, check your levels. Thanks
Sure thing, thanks for the feedback
I thought it was an issue on my side, glad to see I'm not alone
…aaand he was a convinced meditator and philanthropist: David Lynch Foundation!🤗
Been a fan since I first saw them in 1983 in their War Tour. Have seen them on every tour ever since. Even saw Bono's Surrender Book Tour and Sphere Show in Vegas. I would say yes, Stay is their best song. It's probably the song I've listened to the most from them, next to Streets and Bad.
Amazing! How was the Sphere? Looked epic on socials

Great run down. I love Stay too, it's one of my favourite U2 songs. Though when you mention about no band has done such a shift from album to album apart from U2? Radiohead's OK Computer to Kid A might have something to say about that! Peace
Thank you! Glad you enjoyed it, totally fair shout on Radioheads Kid A!
@@TheLastMixedTapeIRL you should do a video on that move. Also more U2 run downs please! Would love you hear your opinions on the final chapters of their career, from No Line to Songs of Surrender to the Sphere shows and the future of the end!
Hate to say it, but I suspect that U2 heard the Radiohead Demo of High and Dry, and musically got a lot of influence from this song, which they created in the same year of the release.
Awesome song, top 5 for me. Thanks!
Great video my friend, I hope your channel blows up. Your subs deserve to be in the tens of thousands at least.

Great video! I love the song. I bought the cassette tape single back in 1993. It captures a special time in U2's career-and, for myself, as a then-14-year-old wrestling with the world! "Stay, and the night would be enough..."
Love this comment! Amazing how music travels with us all through our lives
After all these years, i like LODGER better then HEROES and LOW. HEROES is maybe the weakest of the Berlin trilogy. But in the same time,he did it exellent with IGGY POP, THE IDIOT & LUST FOR LIFE are just great.
That’s interesting, I do love DJ from Lodger I remember playing that on repeat when I heard it! The Iggy Pop stuff is so great!
Oh man the idiot is something really special
great review. i really enjoyed what you had to say although failing internet access allows your review and misty's album hard to play!!!
Thank you so much! I greatly appreciate the comment especially with failing internet!
Glad to see you reviewing the Berlin years. Such a creative time for Bowie.
Definitely my favourite era of his! Delving into the stories of making this song is so interesting
Love Starburster and the entire Romance album, but have to admit their track Roman Holiday is on my Spotify repeat constantly.

If you weren't there at the time its hard to appreciate how big a shift U2's sound was from the massively successful Joshua Tree to the equally brilliant Achtung Baby. I do agree this is one of their best songs. In the top 10.
No it’s a crap song
You obviously don't know music. Probably someone who doesn't like Bono and can't separate the art from the artist. It's in their top 10 songs.
@ it’s in their bottom 10
@hosoiarchives4858 do you even know 10 U2 songs?
@ I can play half of them. I was 14 when Joshua Tree came out and learned to play guitar on that album
we all know who is crap here...
Agree with the U2 comparisons. Grian has that 1987 bono vibe a bit, so intense

I hate the dublin accent of the singer of fountaines dc sounds like dustin the turkey 1 of the most overated bands and a awful accent
Bug is the best, starburster second IMO
Thanks for the review!
Great song, great album. I was the only person in the world who didnt get Skinty Fia. The new stuff is in a completely different direction again, but i love it
Totally, I think Skinty Fia could be seen as a transitional album for the band in future? Like a blueprint but not the finished idea?
I loved the Fontaine"s DC from the get-go, I'm an old punk rocker and their sound was pretty much post punk but they've kept progressing over the years, this song is something else, it's kind of way out there, I'm not a rap guy and I absolutely love this song. After seeing them live in San Diego in September I was absolutely blown away by their live performance, this is a must see band, they are amazing live. The new album is also amazing, it has so many elements from so many influences, some of it reminds me of old Depeche Mode/Cure then it heads off in another direction, it's fantastic and unpredictable.
Nice one. I found the pod thru this review. I'm surprised by the lack of noise around this album. There is a real buzz about Gurriers as a live band, which hasn't quite crystallized yet in the recording metrics. I wonder if it's partly due to their independence, which I admire. Another ballsy move. Or maybe it's just the fact they've dropped it relatively early in their lifecycle like you say. A couple of things you picked up on that made the album stand out for me. Firstly, this album makes me want to dance. From start to end. No matter where I am at the time. Secondly, the calmer moments like "Prayers" were completely unexpected. They show a sense of self awareness you normally see later in a band's development. (Also, "Interlude" forces the listener to consider the album as a whole.) Gurriers have made a few ballsy moves. I really hope it works out for them, as they also seem like nice guys from the very brief encounters I've had with them. I honestly think people will look at this as a seminal album in years to come. Even if it's just in relative terms.
Yes! Totally get your point about the album making you want to dance! Which is so important for bands starting off, the ability to make audiences move! Also, they were smart to include moments of calm to make the louder moments more impactful. Definitely agree on the buzz around them and I think they have what it takes to capitalise on it! Thank you for your in depth comment!
Great choice, Fontaines DC best band on the planet currently..
Honestly I was also thinking of Favourite as one of my songs of 2024 too, such a great track
You have to go see them live, best show I've seen in years (and I go to a lot of shows)
I‘m obsessed with this song, so it wasn’t surprising it was my number one song of the year. Just perfect
Such a great and unique track, and the amount of people I’ve heard saying it’s their top song of the year really captures this!
Romance is album of the year. In the Modern World is my stand out track.

It’s a wonderful album. Heavy cynicism, wry wit, and gorgeous sounds. It’s great that you liken FJM to Lana Del Rey. You probably know this, but they are great friends, and have written together for years. I love FJM’s acting in Lana’s video, Freak.
