Remember your therapist will indicate the correct sizes of the bandages.

    That seems a bit much. I have severe lymphedema and a nurse comes in twice a week to apply Profore bandages to my legs. They are 4 layer bandages. My legs are swollen and for a while my legs looked like tree bark and would leak body fluids which smelled bad. I purchased a $700 hospital bed that has a remote controll from Amazon. I have breathing problems and being able to sleep at a 45 degree angle helped with that. I also raise the bottom of the bed so that my legs are slightly higher than my chest. This sounds uncomfortable but it's not. The selling in my legs reduced from a calf of 34" in diameter to 16". I also started to walk more and bought a reclined set bike and a foot and anle exerciser. I was hit by a car and my knee was snapped sideways which started all this. I gained 80lbs and went from being very active to pretty much nothing. I have type II Diabetes and combined with the inactivity all this started. It is extremely important to do as much walking as you can because that helps pump the blood and fluids up and out of the feet and legs. Make sure your feet are elevated when you sleep and lie down for an hour during the day with your legs elevated. oh also have your legs seen by a specialist who will probably put you on antibiotics for a month because legs that are that swollen are subject to infection. I go to the hospital every 2 month so they can evaluate my legs and adjust the type of bandaging.

    How long are you supposed to keep this on. I would go crazy with my foot wrapped.

      It depends from the size of the leg...from 1 to 2 weeks usually or more..

    Hi. Thanks for your video. Where do you find those kidney shaped ankle support? Also would be more helpful if you could list items required and their dims. Kind regards Aïsha

    That's just the lower leg & I agree why on a person not with Lymphedema, . Perhaps this is not an official video.

    What is an appropriate form of footwear when you are in this situation. I ask because I underwent hip surgery just over 4 weeks ago and have been having severe swelling in my lower leg and my physical therapist suggested I speak to my surgeon about lymph edema wrapping to prevent longterm damage from the severe swelling.

    Why all these layers and not just a compression stocking? I've just started complete decongestive therapy and not even close to having to apply all this. Was told to wrap for 2 weeks and then sounded like I can go to just compression stockings at that time depending on level of swelling relief. Is my therapist missing something???

    • @jillwhalen4571
      @jillwhalen4571 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      A compression stocking can be restricting and would not relieve the fluid to where it needs to go back in the tissue by applying gradual pressure.

    I really enjoyed your video, but I'm a little bit uncertain as to the pressure gradient. it seems like you have many layers of bandages around the ankle and most pressure would be there instead of more distal. Would you be able to share the philosophy with me?

    • @jandelariman6662
      @jandelariman6662 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're right that in this case the bandaging is more concerned distally around the ankle but you can certainly adjust for that depending on how the shape of your patient's leg presents in the clinic. You can also start the 3rd bandage more proximally or use 1/2" grey foam to help dissipate the pressure around the ankle and foot rather than using Artiflex.

    What type of toe wraps do you use? I have hard time finding. Thanks!

      Transelast by L & R works well for toes and fingers. You just have to fold them in half first.

    Why does everyone wrap on people that have skinny legs and dont actually have lymphedema? I would like to see these videos done with actual patients.

    • @jandelariman6662

      1. It's a privacy matter. 2. If you're a patient or a therapist you'd already know that.

      I am a patient and if my therapist was doing a video and asked me to be the patient to be wrapped, I would say yes. Comment #2 wasn't necessary.
