    In 1951, the Alfettas were producing 430 horsepower from their 1.5 liter straight-8 engines. This was done with using a two-stage supercharger and some timing changes to add a cooling stroke to prevent the engines from self-destructing. That accounted for the horrific fuel consumption. Though the Ferrrari and Tslbot engines had three times the displacement they were much more economical on fuel consumption and less.stressed.

    • @Synapse-CrossroadsOfKnowledge
      @Synapse-CrossroadsOfKnowledge ปีที่แล้ว

      Kinda seems ironic that the man (Enzo Ferrari) who would later proclaim "Aerodynamics are for people who can't build engines" implying that raw power could solve everything, got his first taste of F1 success by proving that no, raw power does in fact not solve everything

  • @lawrencemarocco8197
    @lawrencemarocco8197 ปีที่แล้ว

    The dominant Alfa team of Farina, Fagioli, and Fangio was called "La squadra delle tre "effe." Ferrari used a 1.5 litre V-12 supercharged engine in 1950 that wasn't competitive with the Alfas. He saw how competitive the Talbots were with their 4.5 litre atmospheric engines that also benefited from better fuel economy. So for 1951 he used a 4.5 litre normally aspirated V-12 that, although producing less horsepower than the Alfetta engine, was able to compete because it required fewer fuel stops.

    You are absolutely right, Indy never mattered whilst it was part of the Championship, ironically it started mattering to top F1 teams shortly after it was dropped from the F1 Championship, though Indy's race or qualifying weekends would always clash with Monaco in the 1960s (this was also the case when it was counted for the championship in the 1950s too!). Another great video, looking forward to the next

    • @Synapse-CrossroadsOfKnowledge
      @Synapse-CrossroadsOfKnowledge ปีที่แล้ว

      Exactly. The only drivers that ever made the crossing over to America to do the 500 when it was on the calendar were Ascari and Fangio (I think Fangio did it at least). But of course after that a whole bunch went over. Hill won it in 1964. Clark won it in 1965. Mansell won CART in 1993. Fittipaldi I think won 2 CART titles in the 80s and of course Grosjean and Ericsson are currently over there now (with the latter being an Indy winner also)

    • @philipbain
      @philipbain ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Synapse-CrossroadsOfKnowledge Hill's win was 1966 as a rookie and for Clark it was 3rd time lucky having competed in '63 & '64 getting close but not winning until 1965. Obviously the motivation was financial in an era before sponsorship liveries in F1 and the financing they brought. Once sponsorship came into F1 in the late 60s interest in the Indy 500 from F1 teams and drivers waned, though as you pointed out there have been plenty of drivers that transitioned between the top flight single seaters in the US and Europe.

    It's possible Hatzegopteryx habitually flew to the mainland or other islands to exploit wider resources, but I'm not convinced. It has only been found in Hațeg, and it is very reminiscent of the many large flightless birds we see on islands today. It looks a poor flier at best - and on islands poor fliers need to give up flight altogether lest they be blown out to sea.

      It is theorized that hatzegopteryx flew from island to island. The fossil record for pretty much all animals is pretty poor so just because it hasn't YET been found elsewhere doesn't mean it never existed there.

    GRAVITY IS THE NAME OF THE GAME !!! You've totally missed the engineering truth, which explains the minaturisation of Dinosaurs & certain other creatures, including our own ancestors, who were themselves larger than we humans are today. Your example the "Argentinosaurus" as you claim could weigh up to 75 tonnes. But even those tree trunk sized legs would be totally incapable of supporting anything like that weight in today's GRAVITY !!! In other words GRAVITY on Earth was a lot LESS than it is today. At some point in History it obviously began to increase. So all creatures on the planet would be forced to adapt to this changing environment, which required many creatures to shrink. If they could not adapt quickly enough, this would cause them to die out !! The possibility of Gravity change on Earth is still refuted by those Scientists, who fail to understand Electrical Engineering or read Nikola Tesla's work and Professor Velikovsky's work. The later published the truth about the problems that caused the Gravity change in his scientific book "Worlds in Collision" published in 1950 by the science publisher MacMillan. So the problem with "Science" today is a chronic lack of Inter-disciplinary interfacing. Meaning each branch of Science now ignores every other, to their own detriment, which holds progress in many fields back !!!!

    • @Synapse-CrossroadsOfKnowledge
      @Synapse-CrossroadsOfKnowledge ปีที่แล้ว

      This is literally the dumbest comment i've seen in months. It's like an onion of stupidity. 1. No, gravity does not make creatures become smaller, I don't think that needs anymore explaining but I'll just ask you one simple question: How exactly to you propose individuals from one generation pass on their "gravitation shrinkage" to their offspring. That's not how genetics work. 2. Yes, the Argentinosaurus could support it's own weight. Why? Because it had fucking HUGE muscle fibers and tendons as you would expect for an animal that large. 3. Gravity on Earth is a constant, that's why it has it's own letter: G. Also you say it "obviously began to increase".... how? By what mechanism did that happen? You can't just disprove consensus and replace it with something with *less* explanatory power. 4. If increasing gravity (not natural selection pressure) is what caused animals to become small... then how do you explain the opposite of Insular Dwarfism: Insular Gigantism. This is normally observed amongst birds that are on islands where there are no natural ground predators to eat them. This is how we ended up with the Emu and the Cassowary and the now-extinct Elephant Bird. How do you rationalise their existence? Again, naturalistic processes explain both dwarfism and gigantism. Your "explanation" can't do either. And 5. The cherry on top. Of course you cite quacks like Velikovsky and promote things that make me believe you to be an electric universe peddler, so now I see how you are so adept and peddling pseudoscience. I'll just say it. No, Tesla does not agree with you idiots, you horrendously misquote him when you claim he does. No, engineering expertise doesn't make you a physicist, nor does it make you an evolutionary biology. Here's the thing, you, me and Velikovsky are all equally qualified to talk about physics as though we are experts.... that being not at all. The only difference is that I admit that, and you two do not. But thank you for leaving this comment, I laughed so hard while writing this out. Also as a final side note... every branch of science ignores the others? Then what is biochemistry if not biology and chemistry? What is astrophysics if not astronomy and physics. What is astrochemistry. What is biomechanics. What is abiogensis research if not the overlapping of about 8 different fields?

    Interesting! For most of my adult life (now 77 years old) I have never been able to close my eyes and visualize anything - it's all just a vague, blurry backdrop. My dreams are also far more tactile, with blurry visuals. When I was a child the usual childhood illnesses unerringly came with vivid hallucinatory images and imagination so I had convinced myself that my adult lack of visualisation was probably just a mental rejection of those frightening childhood memories. Perhaps I'm just aphantasic? My wife is very 'arty' and when we first met I tried to explain my lack of visualisation to her but she just looked at me as if I was nuts. Surprisingly, I have quite a well balanced eye for art, photography and design, both symmetry and asymmetry, which annoys my wife enormously. I've spent my adult life as an engineer (including design engineering) and have been quite creative, particularly with productive lateral thinking, but am a terrible artist. Often I've had to prototype designs myself before being able to convince others that my ideas are sensibly viable. Perhaps, like dyslexia, which I apparently also suffer from, aphantasia forces you to think outside the box rather than just being a 'herd thinker'?

    Funny, we must have seen the same podcast or an offshoot of it. I just discovered about 18 months ago that I, too, have aphantasia. I used to believe folks were just _imagining_ things/objects and _saying_ they "saw" these things in their heads when they closed their eyes. All I see is...a big, dark nothing! Now I realize I am inner-vision challenged. Since this has been a life-long condition, I have no idea how different my life would have been had I been born with inner visualization capabilities. Oh, well. In aptitude/personality tests, I fall squarely within the "analytical" category. I always had a facility for math. But can draw nothing but stick figures! Ironic, since my childhood ambition had been to become a comic book illustrator and writer due to my love for comic books! After I found out about my condition, I began to ask my friends and family to describe what they saw, boy did those answers vary! Some thought I was being whimsical; others were as inner-blind as me! What a world. I wonder whether this condition runs in families? Interestingly, I dream quite vividly--both in color and in black-and-white! Be well.

    I can only unlock my visualization with thc or lsd, or just before or after sleep, I wonder about possible therapy or training, I didnt really mind my aphantasy (and didnt really pay attention to it) until my first experience of visualization on drugs, the wierd thing is that I felt like It got better after that, and more common after I started drawing

    Everyone "Sees" blackness and nothingness. I think people are confusing communication when they ask, "what do you see?" Dreams are a terrible example, because you actually "see" things while dreaming, which is entirely NOT what's happening when you "visualize" something. Nobody "sees" the things they imagine. They're just thinking about it.

      Are you seriously trying to say aphantasia isn't real? When 1. *I* have it. 2. I showed you about a dozen papers on it and 3. I literally have one of those researchers in my comments. Why don't you go tell them that their work is dumb, go on. Lemme spell it out: If I tell you to close your eyes and try to picture something.... and you see nothing.... you have aphantasia. End of story

    My qualifications are in maths and physics and I don't visualize very well but am quite analytical. Is this typical amongst physicists?

      I'm not sure, I know that definitely lines up with my experience but perhaps that's future research that can be done: The prevalence of aphantasia in certain fields and professions

      @@Synapse-CrossroadsOfKnowledge I received a notification on Altmetric that my research was cited in a TH-cam video and got curious. Thank you for your work in science communication!

    I was on a nerve medication that gave me amnesia and found out Aphantasia swell! Actually shocking considering not know who I was but knowing I was remembering wrong. I was taught very visually in the world so no longer having this ability made navigating out of this world!! Great video hope we get more attention !
