I got this from a Joe Pass book. His concept is to solo playing straight 8th notes with no spaces. This eliminates you being able to play any of your licks. Great stuff!
Cool channel! You have a new subscriber!
@@jazzguitarneophyte-christo7988 Thanks so much and welcome!
As a guitarist interested in learning jazz, this was just the video i needed!Do you have any recommendations on affordable jazz guitars(200€ and under )?
@ds7847 - you can really play Jazz on almost any guitar. Telecasters are great when played in the neck position. It doesn’t “look” like a Jazz guitar but you can get a great sound. If you’re thinking more of a hollow or semi hollow body guitar, I’d say to look for a used Ibanez. They have several semi hollow models that are fairly inexpensive and they play well. Best of luck!
I really like jazz chords, I was wondering if there was any books which would include “jazz” chords in tablature and sheet music or just tabs that you would recommend?
Hi Lonely. I’m sure there are lots of books that show jazz chords in tablature. One book by the great Ted Greene is called, Chord Chemistry “. It shows hundreds and hundreds of chord shapes. The problem is that he didn’t show how to use them or string them together. Best of luck to you.
I have the Fishman Mini. The phase button is used when you are experiencing feedback. When engaged, it seeks the frequencies that are causing the feedback and limits them below the feedback threshold. Great video!
@@Christ-Bearer - thanks Chris! I loved this little amp but I sold it and got a Henriksen.
hey man! i`m a jazz guitar student in Colombia and i just have to say that currently you are my favorite guitar player. You play amazing warm melodies from inside that resonate. Do you have a piece of advise to learn to play with that feeling? have a good one!
@@danilotriana3989 - thank you very much for the kind words. I’ve been playing for over 50 years and I’m still learning. As far as “warm melodies” go, all I can offer is for you to try to find your own voice and style. I realized a long tine ago that I didn’t have a great deal of chops so I didn’t even try to play fast. I just try to play melodically and try to play what I hear. Do a lot of listening and try to emulate those players that you enjoy. I hope this helps.
@@starrynightguitars Thank you!

old school swing jazz and great sound 💯🎸👏
Great playing.

Soooo beautiful. This song always made me sad. Don't know why. Love your painting. I am a Vincent Van Gogh fan.
@@craigb.franklin7046 - thanks Craig. It is sort of a sad song. Looking forward to the new year but maybe also reflecting on what t have been in the past year. Yes, I love Van Gogh as well.
I also play this song but not as good as you. 😊
Very nice. Happy New Year Rich!

@@The_Christian_Influence - thank you brother! May the Lord richly bless you in this new year.
Do you know how many decibels it is?
@@Jenny-r9n - Sorry- I can’t help you with that.
Nice job! Keep it up.
Good stuff...I Love it! Tasty lines and sweet tone from that 'Eastman'.
@@stringbender57 - thanks very much!
Very nice groove. Thank you. Is the foam under the strings near the tailpiece to stop rattles or is there a tonal advantage to doing so, aka the ‘Tone Foam’ mod? The scratch plate on my T386 rattles a bit sometimes, so will go the foam route to hopefully damping them out.
@@standingbadger - Thanks. The foam weaved into the tailpiece is to stop some weird vibrations. That’s also why the pick guard is off.
🔥
Beautiful guitar!
Yes, it’s a beautiful guitar and a beautiful tune.
Beautiful!!👏👏👏
@@billbettencourt7053 - thank you very much for listening.
You are nailing it! You make that Squire Tele sound great!
I have a terrible habit of drifting off my main lesson objective and noodling instead. I think way too many of us do...lol!
@@stringbender57 - yes, you are not alone! 😊
I did a 3-month cruise ship gig with a Squire Strat that I set up and tweaked. It was amazing the number of guitar players that came up and commented they couldn't believe a Squire Strat could sound so good.
I like it!
I have a Katana 100 MkII. It is very light and an incredibly versatile amp. I dialed in my own clean sound that I am very pleased with that works great for jazz. Got some awesome overdrive and distortion tones as well.
Really enjoyed this one! Jobim tunes are my favorites for bossa jazz guitar. Nice tone, nice lines.
I love this tune! Nice job. Guitar sounds sweet. I am an Eastman fan after buying one back in September 2024.
Great job on this classic. That Eastman looks and sounds excellent!
Great job! Smooth...
I never get tired of hearing this classic tune played on guitar. Very nice job!
@@stringbender57 - thanks very much! Yes- it’s a beautiful tune.
My favorite Jobim Bossa!
Very good overview of the Eastman guitars! After months of shopping for a new Gibson 335 I was very disappointed in the very poor build quality and outrageous price! I heard that Eastman made some 335 style guitars with excellent build quality at 1/3 the price of a new Gibson. So, I ordered an Eastman T486 Classic from Sweetwater Music. I was immediately blown away with the outstanding build quality, attention to detail and the easy playability. I have owned dozens of guitars over the past 50 years, many high dollar Gibsons, but I am now an Eastman fan, and my next purchase will likely be the Eastman AR372CE (ES175 style). It seems we think a lot alike, so I am now subbed!
@@stringbender57 - thanks very much! My first Eastman was an AR 371. When it first came out, it was a single pickup. I let that guitar go but I’m kind of sad about theft now. Enjoy your guitar!
I love my Eastman! After 50 years of tons of high dollar name brands, I discovered that I actually preferred my Eastmans! I've had two AR805's, an AR803, two AR372's, a T186MX, an ER2, a Pisano AR880CE, and, after having to downsize & sell them all to hit the road in our Travel Trailer, another AR805CE. My 805 has become my #1 gigging guitar, as my old ones were thru 9 years in an 8 pc Western Swing Band. All my 805's are/were earlier ones with the floating pickups, which work better for me for acoustic Swing Rhythms. I just don't get why they decided to top-mount the pickup on the later 805's! Kind of defeats the purpose of a fully carved guitar!!
@@JillandKevin - Wow! That’s quite a collection! I was just looking at an AR805. I totally agree with the pickups being floating rather than attached. Are you living full time in your travel trailer or just doing some traveling?
I learned picking playing long time ago, but it was different ones. Great playing, Rich and very good tuto. Like 10
Many thanks!!
Very nice! great playing, with beautiful arrangement. Bravo 👏. Big Like 👍. Merry Christmas🎄. Greetings from France
@@zepp2498 - thank you very much! Merry Christmas greetings from sunny Arizona! 🎄🌵🏜️
Well, Lucky you. Here we have mostly much rain, and wind. My son is in LA and Calofornia ( first time) and he's taunting us with beautiful sunny pictures, héhé
@ - sorry but you get to live in France! 🇫🇷😊
Haha, I live 30 years away from France, so I missed it and now like it very much.
My thoughts literally mirror yours. Same quirks, same pros and cons. I still regret not getting a US Casino (was out of my budget at the time), and now that Gibson has released a ES-330, I really want one. I might get a Kalamazoo made Casino/330 at some point, but this Eastman has given me two songs already, so it’s been worth it. Yes, a bummer not being able to adjust pickup height and while the setup on mine was pretty good out of the box, I soon found that the bridge pickup was too close to the strings and the notes were getting choked. Turns out you can adjust the height of the magnet poles as they’re screws, so my luthier helped me with dialing in the correct loudness of individual strings and balance between the pickups.
Cool to hear that you can adjust the pickups. Thanks for your input. All the best to you!
@ happy holidays!
Nice demonstration. Knowing these shapes for all the chords makes _everything_ else easier and smoother.

Hey Rich Thanks for your video. I just got my first Eastman a few days ago. I absolutely love it and I am an instant fan of Eastman. I went to the shop to try semi hollows and then I tried the T64V with a Bigsby. It was like some sort of magic it was so good I just had to buy it. The honeymoon is not over yet but I think I've found my new wife. I just hope the fascination lasts longer than my feeble attempts with actual wives.
@@peterhaddock9754 - great to hear! Well, I can’t speak to the issue about the wife, but hopefully you have a long, happy relationship with the new guitar! 😊
So true I have a Eastman T486 GB that plays and sounds amazing. To me in MHO Eastman guitars have a better build quality than Gibson.
@@NormanJohnson-m6c - Agreed. I’ve played expensive Gibson that were dogs. I’ve never played a bad Eastman.
So true I have a Eastman T 486GB that is amazing. To me in MHO I think the build quality of Eastman is way better than Gibson.
Great video! I've actually been eyeing the Godin 5th Ave Kingpin for a hollow body but sounds like Eastman may be the way to go.
@@nick_reiner - thanks! I have a 5th Avenue Kingpin and it’s a great little guitar as well. I wouldn’t say it’s as versatile a guitar but fun to play. I like that I can sit around and play it without plugging it in.
I have two. E10SS and E10OOSS-TC. They are phenomenal. No question in my mind that Eastman is the best import guitar you can buy. Pro quality all the way!
I haven’t played then but I’m sure they are great!
