Varenna is one of the most famous and picturesque towns on Lake Como (Italy). It was founded as a fishing village back in 769 AD. Nowadays, Varenna is famous for its elegant villas and botanical gardens, such as Villa Monastero, which was once a monastery and is now a private residence, and Villa Cipressi, which is now a four-star hotel.
Varenna can be easily reached by train from Milan, and the journey takes about an hour. You can also use a boat or ferry that sail across Lake Como.

The small town of Bellagio on Lake Como in Italy inspired Steven Wynn, a famous American entrepreneur, real estate developer and owner of several casino hotels in Las Vegas and Atlantic City, to build the Bellagio casino hotel in Las Vegas in 1998. In a short film about Bellagio on Lake Como, I tried to see and capture what was the prototype of the famous casino hotel in Las Vegas.
