    Why so complicated? Can just clip the dry bag top to the rack then strap it with small tie down strap or velcro or buckle strap

    Neither is "better" the hollow BBs are just lighter. Unless you have an other reason to change the BB leave it be.

    Vise grips are very versatile. I carry a needle nose variety. Another great bike tool to carry is the ¼" bit drive set by Icon from Harbor Freight. It comes in a little plastic case & has Allen, Torx, flat tip & cross tip bits. I carry a chain whip but cut off half of the handle. I bring the smallest adjustable wrench that'll fit my cassette removal tool. I got tired of breaking the crappy Brooks galvanized tension bolts so I replaced it with an M8 stainless button head Allen bolt & tapped the original tension nut to 8x1.25. Now, I can tension the bolt from the front with an allen.

    I have a Shimano Deore XT front hub and after just spreading the fork a little bit while installing the wheel it was a perfect fit without the washers, rotor fit perfectly and brake adjusted like before. Crazy that the Shimano Deore XT quick release hub works with both! I had to loosen the caliper to give it enough wiggle room while spreading the fork and popping the hub into the fork holes but after that, it's like the hub was made for it.

  • @tkbuz

    Bought the washers, tried to install the wheel, but since the width of the QR hub is slightly wider than the TA hub, I had to have someone pull the fork apart while I slid the wheel in place. The result was fine, but I'm now worried I won't be able to install it myself if I have to change a flat out on the road. Not sure if others have the same experience, or is it just my QR hub that is slightly wider than the TA?

  • @whitepawrolls
    @whitepawrolls 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

    Can you make a video of how you'd actually install these? I'm thinking of getting a cargo bike that only has threw axle front forks when I already own a very nice set of qr carbon composite sealed bearing mags. Thank you.

    Other than spendy boutique parts. Mass produced square taper BB's are all made to be cheap, and disposable for low end bikes. So there is a lack of options for better square taper BB's without getting something super spendy.. Your stuck using a cheap one that still costs just as much as a higher tier Hollowtech BB. I have seen square taper cartridge BB's go bad after a few years from being left outside, or bike frames that were laying on the ground. They are not exactly indestructible.

  • @denisdan2610

    This works but carbon frame will keep the wheels în place because of the surrounding material of the frame around the washers and the presure you put on the qr What happens if the wheel splips and rupture that material? You can make a tiny cilinder to fill the gap between the qr axle and the interior of the drops,' of the frame somehow Again the frame has a concave contact point between the bolt and frame on the part it îs tighten and a thread on the mother part this soluțion may work may not

    Do you know what all the tie downs in the top are for? Looks like maybe tying a tent or sleeping pad down? I bought it to bikepack, & happy I took the chance, thus bad is as nice as bags I paid 2-3 times more! If they came up Werth an internal bracing, I'd buy it

      If the rails on the rack are to small try wrapping some tape around the rails to increase their diameter thus closing he gap between the clips and the rails.

    Two weeks before a long trip, service your square taper BB properly. Ride it a hundred miles, then readjust it. Ride it loaded a couple of times and recheck that everything is still working properly and torqued up. Take your trip, but don't bother packing all those tools. The odds of having any issue with your BB for the next 4,000 miles are minuscule, so carrying them is unnecessary. You're more likely to experience a broken fork or a taco'd wheel, and you're not carrying spares of those.

    I'm just seeing this, and I made a similar cage from a protein powder tub- I cut it in half the tall way, then cut an insert out of the other half and used contact cement to glue the 2 halves together. Then I cut notches through the whole thing to hold my bag in place. Works really well and is super strong.
