I feel like it hasn't changed in 15 years! (That might actually be a good thing)
HI! I'm a new subscriber. Great picks! I too try to pick very good or like new when choosing thrift books. I a picky with the books I choose from there. LOL
Hi! thank you for subscribing!
How do you grade the first quarter?
The test booklets will help you, usually you minus the points missed from 100 to get the grade, and then on the progress report you record the score for tests, quizzes etc. Inside each teacher lesson plans or video manual (depending on if you are using videos or parent led) you'll find the progress reports, also they're is usually a grading section to help you further.
@@rebecacano2821 i might make a video in the future on how I do grading.
@@graciousblessingshomeschool thank you
nice workbook...
hi! may i ask if you do a science subject in the school year and then having sonlight science for summer? if yes is it a complete different topics? i thought about doing this too thank you😊
Hello, yes we use the full Abeka grade level, comes with science, during the regular school year. and in summer we play around a bit. We've used different science in the summer. We like to pick from Master books, Sonlight, TGTB and even Gather Round just depending on what seems interesting. And yes it's different topics just depends on what interests my son has that summer.
Is their a online teacher
@Woman812 no, it's pre- recorded.
❤❤❤
Did you do accreditation? We did and I believe we did teacher video led. He started 9/3. Our abeka box 😊 should be here next week.🎉
Hi, we didn't do accredited this year, but plan on it for high school. We started back at the beginning of July and it's going great so far. Have a wonderful school year!
Love your homeschool - Abeka videos. I'm a licensed teacher now at home with a new baby and homeschooling my 8th grader. 💜🩵💜🩵
Congrats on your baby! Have a blessed homeschool year! Thank you for watching!
I know this was a year ago, but I hope you see this and it’s able to respond. Did you find necessary the lesson plans? Or just getting books and answers key is enough to know what to do? Thank you for sharing 😊
Personally, I like having the lesson plans. I feel that they are helpful and necessary. It helps with pacing, knowing what to teach and when. If you are taking tests/quizzes it tells you when to do those. Also, helps you with teaching the subjects/lessons. I feel like your student would gain more if you utilize the lesson plans. If you're not using the videos I would recommend getting the parent kit along with the student kit. It will give you everything you need to teach.
@@graciousblessingshomeschool thank you so much for replying. I was on the fence cause I usually have the lesson plans but never use them cause the workbook it’s very self explanatory with the lessons numbers on the page for lower grades but then the junior high didn’t have it but I asked myself how important would that be. Thank you for your insight. I really appreciate your quick response. Let me go shopping again 😅 God bless your homeschool year 🙏🏼
@@mayrlabauer I'm glad I could help! God bless you! have a wonderful homeschool year!
By chance did you ever do a review video after using this for the year? Would love to know how it went!
No sorry, I didn't do a review. We ended up going back to Abeka, Sonlight wasn't a good fit for us. we got to about week 12. I loved the History aspect of it. There were a few books, that I wasn't entirely comfortable with. There were notes for any questionable books. One of the main science books leaned towards evolutionary concepts, however there were notes in the instructors guide when that occurred. And as for the math, we preferred the more traditional math ABeka offered. Since we weren't really liking the science, math, language arts portion; we just made a decision to go back to Abeka for all subjects. Over this past summer we did read some of the books from the HBL, I picked and choose which to read. Like I said there were some questionable books, but we liked some of the books so we read those ones. Hope this helps!
This is very helpful!! Thank you so much for the feedback! God bless you and your homeschool!
@@katiegallagher3831 God bless you! And blessing for your homeschool as well
Do you have students do homework at NIGHT or do they work on it during the day? We can't get thru a full day because my boys does it during the day.
I have a schedule written out, and I have a specific homework time scheduled for that very reason. we used to do homework right after the subject but it made the day seem longer. So now we will complete all our subjects first, then homework. Once we are done with all subjects and homework, chores.. my son has the whole rest of the day (it seems to be motivation). Sometimes in between subjects, (only if the video finishes early) he'll work on some homework assignments; but just until the next subject is scheduled to start. Hope that makes sense.
Science H looks really interesting. We are starting C soon, so a long while to we get to H, but it makes me want to speeed up a bit 😃, my son would love to do this one now. I know some of the higher levels use Apologia Science, which I just cannot stand, it’s that that made us find Sonlight tbh and now we use all their programs. I think guest hollow is a science lit program but not sure of other options there is out there for when we sadly get to the end of Sonlight science programs, they are so good and enjoyable and easy to implement and plan. Thank you for sharing,
It is! We're really enjoying it! Thank you for watching! Hmm, I think Ambleside Online is literature based. I know they always include literature for every subject. I'm not really sure though. I looked at it for the younger years a while back.
I’d like to see the Christian Studies in depth 😊
Sure! I have it up coming on my schedule for the next week ☺

Question, The solution key have all the answers to the problems in the text? I was thinking of getting the solution key only.
Yes the solution keys have the answers to the problems in the text. Are you doing parent led? or video led? If your doing parent led I would suggest the TE book as well, it has some useful information for you, especially if your planning to utilize the tests, quizzes and flashcards.
@@graciousblessingshomeschool Parent led. I really just wanted the answers to the question if I need them. Looking to save on costs 😊
@@alexwest2689 well then the solution key should suit your needs, all the answers are there 😀Have a wonderful day!
What's the different between parent led and the video teachings? We did the kit with videos, I guess through Abeka academy. But I found myself teaching it more for my 4th grader... math is my weak subject so the parent led scares me in that lol. I'll have a 5th and 7th grader in the Fall.
Parent led you get lesson plans to teach all the lessons, there's no videos at all.
My son was supposed to start on 10th April, but as they didn't send all books (and also sent Doble books)😢 I think it will not be possible to start...
I would call them, they're usually good about taking care of those types of things. Did you order the whole abeka video kit?
@graciousblessingshomeschool yes I ordered 😟 . My husband just sent a message to them and they said that they are not going to send it to us.
I have a friend who ordered the same (for class 8) they also did not send many books. . But my friend sent a message to them and they apologized and said that will send the books to my friend. I'm so disappointed 😞
@@BifaLia-ss7up I've never really had that issue with Abeka. They usually always send me everything I need. Praying it goes well for you.

Hey! So I just wanted to leave a message in the comments, I actually filmed this a several months ago. So there's a reference to be being a month or so into the curriculum. Currently we are almost finished with 7th grade. Have a blessed day everyone!
Thank you so much for sharing a flip through❤I’m debating on Abeka or BJU for my upcoming middle schooler.
Hope it helped, thank you for watching! I had been debating between Abeka and BJU (for 8th grade) as well. I have personally never used BJU but I hear its good. We ultimately decided with Abeka because its a great all around curriculum.
@@graciousblessingshomeschool I have used Abeka for grade 4, but the videos were too distracting at the time. I like the Abeka layout more than the BJU for middle school. My daughter did learn a lot from the short time she did it. Maybe she will have a better experience since she will be older.
We did videos for Abeka 1-3 grade and then 4-7 parent led but decided to go back to video's for 8th and above. We had tried to switch in 6th grade but just came back to Abeka @@luv4all43

Wondering what things were "glorified"? This may help with my decision. We were going to do Sonlight next year but man it's sooo expensive. I thought Sonlight was a Christian based curriculum. It's concerning to me if the focus is not on Jesus!!
One of the things that comes to mind, in one of the books to read, they were talking about spirits, fortune telling, the grandma was a witch. But it was talked about like it was a good thing. IDK if that makes sense. Although, in the teachers guide it did give warnings. However, for the price of the curriculum I would have liked to use the whole thing or not be worried about what would come up in the next book or even the next chapter. Same thing with science, one of the main books, was narrated from a evolution stand point. At first I though I could use it as a teaching lesson. But like I said for the price, I would have liked the material not to be so secular. The teacher guides did give notes though and how to use it to open discussions about the topics. So at the end it comes down to what your looking for. Aside from Bible the portion, and a few missionary books, it didn't really seem to be Christ centered. But I only used up to week 10, so i couldn't say passed that.
And with Abeka these were things I didn't have to worry about. So I went back to what worked.
@@graciousblessingshomeschool thank you for your reply. That helps with my decision. :)
@@lisaboudreau5390 your welcome, glad I could help
How is this affordable? I wanted to get this curriculum so bad but we were looking at almost 800$ US . Good video!
We saved. and there was a $100 off offer for first time orders. so that helped. Thank you for watching!
Found ur channel from Sonlight searches. Have you switched from Sonlight? Saw your unboxing on Sonlight which is 9 months old and then saw this which is 5 months old and a review. I’m presuming Sonlight didn’t work from the outset? Would love to hear an update and review of Sonlight and this Abrka package. Was Sonlight full package too much? X
Hi! Actually I bought my Sonlight package a little earlier. We are using it now for 6th grade. I filmed this abeka one after we finished up for the 5th grade. We're about 8 weeks in to using Sonlight, love it for History! Not so much the language arts. The science is okay. Not a fan of some of the evolution references in the books, as we are believers that Jesus created everything. But it does give us some good discussion questions and opportunities to point out the faults in evolution. However, in the teachers guide Sonlight does a good job of preparing you as the teacher when these topics will come up. So really it's up to the parent how to present it. Math u see- I feel like it would have been more beneficial to start from the beginning (meaning from kindergarten). We had been using Abekas math from 1st to 5th grade. I prefer Abekas spiral approach compared to Math u sees mastery approach. I feel like even with the spiral approach you still get the "mastery" aspect of it with the review. So I guess that will come down to preference and what works best for your child. On whether or not its it's to much- I dont feel like it is, once history portion is done everything else goes rather quickly. We spend maybe 30 min with bible and 1 hour with history (including readers). So all together maybe 4 to 5 hours depending on the day. (Including breaks and a lunch). But after all that will mostly depend on the child. Abeka has a bit more work load but I feel overall Abeka is more thorough and better at teaching the key concepts in languages arts and math. History I feel is comparable. And science, at this point I prefer Abeka only because it creation based science. I thank you for watching! And thank you for your questions, I pray this was helpful for you. Have a blessed school year.
@@graciousblessingshomeschool oh 🙂, I see. Thank you for the reply. We are just embarking on Sonlight, would love to hear any tips.
@@jessicajones611 I actually put an edit in the above comment and go into more detail. As for tips, I would say start with HBL first. I like to get all the reading done when we are still fresh in the morning.
@@graciousblessingshomeschool hi, I just went back and found the edit to the reply. I see. At the moment we use Saxon, Rod & Staff for grammar and Writing & Rhetoric for composition. We use Apolgia for science, Aplogia for Bible plus Bible, SOTW for history and Sonlight with the I.G for mine to read out loud to me. They use the Robinson Curriculum for reading too. I’ve found the Sonlight readers great, because it’s enabled me to listen to my children and ask questions at each step of the way. Their RC books, for my 9 year old that is read silently and he reads quite a bit so I don’t as easily get to listen and slip in questions because I’m not constantly listening to that book. We are using the Sonlight readers for 💯 to read to mum 🙂. Have u used SOTW before? Sonlight history much better? X
@@jessicajones611 No, I haven't used SOTW before. I've used Abeka history. I like having the readers of Sonlight because I feel like it adds more to history.
