I'd like to get a model of 121 032
@@TimothyWorel-f8j I'd say that if it fits well with your model railway layout era, it's worth it for sure. I was after this class 101 Stratchclyde Transport fella for a wee while, and it makes the layout just feel "right". 🙂 Hey... thank you for stopping through! 🙂👍🏻
@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy it's a nice looking model
ELECTRICALS - COSTS & SUPPLIERS ! Why buy expensive "electronics" to control lights on a layout, when all you need are a couple of cheap mini toggle switches available at around £2 each ! From suppliers such as "Proops" & "Eileen's Emporium" (both often have trade stands at Model Railways shows). They also supply modelling tools ! Further "Chocolate Blocks" (wire connectors) are virtually given away by your nearest CEF (City Electrical Factors wholesaler). At around 50p per strip of ten !! Read on for more major savings....... Yet further, and ALSO from CEF (City Electrical Factors), if you are NOT using DCC then you can wire a layout up to 80ft long. By using lightweight "Burglar Alarm" cable (Rated maximum 50v & 3 amps, or 15v at 5 Amps). This looks like telephone wire, but is multi-stranded. It is sold on 100metre rolls of either 8 core or 12core. That means you either get 800metres of 8 different coloured wires, or 1.2 KILOMETRES of wire in 12 different colours. Wait for the good news, the 8 core reels are still only around £35. And the 12 core usually around £45. NOTE: It must be "Burglar Alarm" cable, there are cheaper options that are intended for things like loud speakers, but are useless for model railways. This cable is NOT suitable for DCC as the amperage with that system can spike to over 10 amps. But I've been using Burglar alarm cable for over 30 years on Exhibition layouts as big as 80ft x 25ft without ANY problems at all. And despite the small size of this wire I have not been able to detect (using a meter) any power drop off up to 80 feet from the power source, using a traditional 12v DC supply. Burglar alarm cable has another major advantage, in that you can use 25way Computer "D" plugs between baseboards, which are obviously small & compact, and also available from CEF !!!
Nice. I have the Lima 156 models
@@charlie1872 They're fantastic looking models 🙂
Just stumbled across your channel. Lovely looking 101. I have been looking for one for a while. Liked and Subbed. Cheers, Andy
@Shelvington_Railway Thank you for stopping through Andy! Yeah, it's the loco I really wanted to begin to get the theme aligned. Sub reciprocated so I can get a look at your channel 👍🏻👍🏻
Another great video!

@@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy It absolutely is! Yours is my favourite model railway channel. I'll find the newer video now...
Hey... thank you! Thank you for such kind feedback 🙂. That's really nice of you and I hope you enjoy the content! 🙂👍🏻
Thanks, you have a new subscriber, I’m planning my very first layout and the wife has requested lanterns like these 😃
Hey, thank you for subscribing! So, I got those wee lanterns from Temu really cheap. If you search 00 Gauge lights 3 volt you'll find them 🙂👍🏻 Cheers for stopping past! 🙂
As someone who used to collect Hornby models and having the inherent obsession with keeping the box in good condition, I can tell you that a dinner knife is a useful tool for helping open the box without damaging it. Just slide the knife under the end flap and slide sideways with dull edge. You can work out the rest, I'm sure. Nice model btw.
@NewModelRailway1 I'll give this a try for sure. Thank you, and thanks for the kind comments 🙂👍🏻
I've been after a Strathclyde spt class 101 for ages, lima had one, even second hand a hundred pounds. This train was the airdrie to Queen st commute i think last ran about 10 years ago, was a great livery bright and cheerful.
@@shedhead00 They aren't cheap from Hornby for sure, but on this occasion I just had to have it because my whole layout is sort of geared toward a fictional railway line between Ayrshire and Glasgow, and I remember these beauties running on the real lines. Hey... thanks for your comments. Much appreciated, and I hope you enjoy the content 🙂👍🏻
lovely loco got one myself but not in that livery 👍👍
@@gibbosj08 The Strathclyde Transport Livery was huge in this area (Ayrshire and Glasgow) in the 90's and early 2000's, and very striking. It brings back memories! They were a cool train to be on 🙂. What style is yoursm
@@gibbosj08 and it is very smoothe compared to the Hornby Class 57.
There are a couple of nice additions to your layout there. I wonder if you could carry Dylington Custard in that Coca-Cola tanker, I know it's the wrong colour, but maybe the tanker has been disguised for security purposes 😁👍
Haha... I guess it's not even possible to bulk move Coca Cola (in fact I know for sure it isn't possible 🤫), so why not put something else in it? 😀 I reckon the Class 101 brings my layout to life in its true era 🙂
@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy we've got some yellow tankers we're going to label up as Dylington Custard tankers. Yes, the class 101 looks great and is right at home on your layout 😁👍
Thats nice!
Thank you again mate. I love it! 🙂
Wow thats nice!
Thank you mate. I've had this on my wishlist for a while! It fits with my era and area. I think it's a wee beauty!
No snow at my altitude but, I lived over 65 years in heavy snow country. It gets real fit in the summer but now low 40’s at night (Fahrenheit) and sometimes in the 80’s for a high. Been here another 8 years and really enjoy for the most part. Again, hope you have a very Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.
@@paladin4570 The only two deserts I've been in are The Nevada Desert (Las Vegas) and in Qatar when I worked there... no doubt very different to the Arizona Desert! You have youself a wonderful Christmas please, and thank you for taking the time to drop a comment! Very much appreciated 🙂👍🏻
Very well done hill. Looks great. Are those strips mini plaster cast strips? They work really well. Merry Christmas from the Arizona Desert.
@@paladin4570 Hey!... Merry Christmas from the very windy and wet West Coast of Scotland! So, yes... they're plaster cast strips. In the UK they're pretty cheap to buy, and polysterene (styrofoam?) is free at this time of year with any gifts given from family and friends. You have yourself a wonderful Christmas. Has it ever snowed in the Arizona Desert yet?
Looks fantastic and has definitely given me ideas for my model railway. All the best, Jon.
@@jonpinney8537 Thanks Jon! It's a bit of a journey for me too! It's really pleasing to hear that some of the ideas I come up with are useful to others. I do love a hedge on my layout. It makes it feel proper British 🙂👍🏻
Absolutely. Have a great Christmas and New Year. All the best Jon.
@@jonpinney8537 Thank you, and you have an amazing Christmas too! 🙂👍🏻
Adding the hedges has certainly made a difference to the scene. I know what you mean about having some bigger things in front of things, but don't be frightened to add a few big things towards the front as it can be pleasing to catch a glimpse of things behind them. Especially trains running behind and briefly going out of view. These are all things Dylan has been learning about at the planning and design clinics he's been going to. There's a new bookazine out called By Design, which shows the process that some people are going through to plan and create their model railway, one of them is mine...cheers James 🙂👍
I guess it's a learning curve on many fronts when entering into the hobby. The TH-cam community is a fantastic resource for picking up tips from each other's learnings. I get it with glimpses through certain foreground items. I'm going to have a wee Google for that book... Cheers! 🙂👍🏻
@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy it's written by Paul Lunn, who has written for many modelling magazines, and who does some of the PECO track plan books, he now writes for Hornby Magazine. Let me know if you get a copy or download a copy. I'll tell you which is mine. I know you can download it from Pocketmags 🙂👍
@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY I have found it and added it to my wishlist! I plan to do an N Gauge or TT:120 layout at some point in the future where I actually plan from scratch and stick to the plan. This would be a good resource to get me ready for it 🙂
@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy well using some of the methods Dylan and I are using should help. The big one is, as I've said before is to do mock ups. It really helps to visualise the whole layout without spending unnecessary money. My layout is just a baseboard with lots of scrunched up newspapers and trees made from skewers and card. It has already thrown up a design problem that has now been sorted before any track has been put down. When you get a copy, let me know. I'll tell you which is mine. Like I said before, take a look at how Dylan is doing his, I can't remember which one has the mocked up hills and the trees, which he shows how he made them, it might be part 3 🙂👍
@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY I'm slowly working my way through all yours and Dylan's content. It really is a fantastic example to work from. Consider me addicted! I love the layout details and the stop motion techniques. It actually seems alive sometimes and I guess that's the ultimate objective!
I really like the idea of painting the side of the rails for a rusty look! Nice thinking! I must use that idea on my layout!
@@SouthWestCrossingsUK It takes a reeeeeally steady hand and a fine tipped brush, but I think it does add to the look 🙂
All looking fine, great videos, congrats on 500 plus subscribers..!
@@GeorgeGossland Hey, thank you for the really kind feedback. Yes, 500 now... a good milestone. I'll genuinely try to keep the content aligned to my passion for Model Railways and keep the channel growing hopefully. Thank you! 🙂👍🏻
That little hill is looking good and is blending in nicely with the rest of the scene... Cheers James 🙂👍
@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY Thanks James! So... I have painful plans... I have learned that from eye level heights must be considered. My journey is telling me to redo the first ever hills that I did in the style I can now do (the front part). I guess this is the journey, but I love it! 🙂
@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy yes I agree. Looking from eye level is really the best way to look at the layout. Also, making mock-up hills out of screwed up newspapers (like Dylan has on his 009-layout) really helps visualise how a scene might look. Also, looking for optimum viewing angles through the scenery is also a good thing to do. Using view blocking techniques also helps create a nice scene 🙂👍
I think the real secret is that once you get a wee bit of experience... take your time to think about it and always remember that you have to see the details. It's like a garden... big plants at the back, wee plants at the front I reckon.
@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy yes that's about right, but using the scrunched up newspapers can save you time and money if you create a landscape with it before committing yourself. Even mocking up the trees with cheap wooden skewers and shapes cut out of cereal packets can be a great, cheap visual aid. Have you seen Dylan's 009-layout build videos? You can see how it works on one of those 🙂👍
@DYLINGTONMODELRAILWAY I'm going for a look at these, and I do get you... prototype before committing! This is a great tip! 🙂👍🏻
Lovely detail! Great video!
@@SouthWestCrossingsUK thank you mate! 🙂

looking good bud 👍 ive been using bonding plaster it dries fairly quick and u can mold it nicely
@gibbosj08 Thank you! Now, I have considered using bonding plaster, and I may try this out to see how it turns out. Thanks for the tip! 🙂 I think the reason I went down the plaster bandage route was because it held itself together. How did you find the plaster held, buddy?

Could you use the switch to control a a 2 way led signal light instead of lights? Sorry trying to learn about model railway electronics
@@jonnid67 Hi, so that would be different to an "on / off" switch. The on-off will only literally switch the circuit on or off. I reckon you'll need a "selector switch". I believe these are called "single pole, double throw" switches, so... if you wanted to switch from a green LED to a Red LED, it would select that. This gives me an idea that it might help if I put wee diagrams into the videos in future to help as many folks as I can! Thanks for taking the time to reach out 🙂👍🏻
@@TheScottishModelRailwayGuy Thank you for your reply and yes a wee diagram would be helpful, especially for me...
@jonnid67 Okay... so, this had made me think that I need to learn how to make a signal switch, so let me have a wee think and I'll see what I can put together in a video in the near future; perhaps a wee series that builds up as it goes like the lighting ones. Thank you for suggesting this! I'm always looking for new ideas and reasons! Amazon... here I come again... 😆
adding lights in buildings makes such a difference to any layout👍
