Is Your Garage Door Spring About to Fail Without Warning?
Garage door springs are under a lot of stress, and failures are more common than you might think. In this video, we explore the most common causes behind garage door spring failures, how to identify warning signs, and what you can do to prolong their lifespan.
Garage door springs small but powerful. Yet, they often fail. Let’s break down why? First on the list is wear and tear. The average spring is rated for 10,000 cycles. That's one open and close each cycle. Over time, they wear out.
Next up is rust. Rust increases friction on the coils, weakening the springs and making them prone to breakage. Lack of maintenance is another common cause. Springs need periodic lubrication and inspections to ensure they're functioning safely.
Temperature changes can also cause problems. Extreme heat and cold expand and contract the metal, leading to cracks or sudden breaks. An imbalanced or misaligned door puts extra stress on springs, causing them to wear unevenly and fail sooner.
Regular maintenance and inspections are key. Identify issues early to avoid costly failures and keep your door operating smoothly. Subscribe for more garage door tips and insights.

My garage door repairman told me Not to use Garage Door Lubricant or Grease as it collects dirt and said to use WD-40 as it does not collect dirt. And use WD-40 on the coil springs to keep them from breaking. And I have heard this from other Garage Door Repair personnel.

I replaced my original garage doors with new ones. They came with a worm gear to wind the spring. You just use a hex driver in a drill to wind it or unwind to your heart's content. Much much safer.

@@viharkottakota1849these are garage door springs. Winding them up is what allows the door to lift up and down with minimal effort. After winding them you tight the bolt down to the rod going to the sides that have a cable attached to the winds up and down.

I understand what you're saying, but the vast majority of people will not check the description. Shorts are just mind-numbing scrolling for a LOT of people... Disclaimers should be put visually on the screen to be read for the viewer, or at least say: "Disclaimer: please read description"... Most people, specifically younger people, do not have the intelligence to recognize the sarcasm or entertainment of the video. Thank you for your time.
