It's Growing Out of Control!! Early August Lawn Update
PGR = Plant growth Regulator (which I use T-nex)
I have been busy with life and dealing with other things so I've only been mowing about once a week. Up until now, I have been able to maintain a 3/4" height of cut only cutting once a week using tnex, however, I got busy and missed my reapplication window. Now I'm in full rebound and the grass is growing faster than I would regularly mow. I brought down the first cut with my Ego rotary mower on setting 1 and then followed that up with the manual reel set to 3/4".
It appears I have a little bit of fungus that shows better on camera than it does to my eyes in person. As of now, I'm now sure it's even worth treating and just keeping up with my culture practices. We are headed into one of the best months for growing grass in MN so it should recover from any disease just fine.

Taking the lawn to the next level - End of August Update
มุมมอง 3662 ปีที่แล้ว
Quick lawn tour showing off how things are looking after peak week. I had my daughter's birthday party last week and had the lawn looking the best it had all year. 3 days before the party I sprayed 0.3oz Tnex, 8oz AMS, and 2.5oz GreenORR SP per 1000 sqft. I haven't been using the toro sportlawn because the reel to bedknife adjustment is too tight to properly be cutting, and the gear on the left...

Planting a shade garden with hostas

DIY Sprinkler System with MP rotators
มุมมอง 6K2 ปีที่แล้ว
Inspired by Ryan Knorr's DIY sprinkler setup with Hunter MP rotators, I looked for a cheaper way besides using hoses between the sprinklers and something that would be a bit more permanent. I found Perma-loc adapters that covert 0.75" poly pipe to GHT (garden hose thread). The first year I held poly straight with landscape staples, but this year I only need a couple to hold it in place. So far,...

Lawn tour & issues - 4th of July 2022
มุมมอง 1862 ปีที่แล้ว
Quick little lawn tour showing offing all my nit-picky issues. I'm thinking most of it is due to sanding too heavy, maybe some old melting out damage, or possibly new damage. It has been extremely humid the past few days. My wife had been cutting with our Brill manual reel at 1.2" = 30mm. Watering and drought has finally gotten under control. A week ago I sprayed 0.3oz Tnex, 1.5oz Armada, 4oz A...
Slow spring green up. Early spring tour
มุมมอง 1082 ปีที่แล้ว
My lawn was quite slow greening up this year in Minnesota. We were 6 degrees cooler on average in April and so that delayed the Greenup quite a bit compared to normal years. Dog pee spots also seemed the worst this year. I normally don't have spots during the year, but in winter those spots concentrate and kill the grass. I will have to spot seed those area's. Hard fescue stayed the greenest th...

Satisfying rust removal from all the nuts and bolts for my 1950 Toro Sportlawn 21" reel mower. I used a wire wheel brush attachment for my drill and just varied speeds and rotated the parts around to get off most of the rust. Appreciate your video! This seems like a relatively simple system to put together. Would be very helpful to have the parts list broken into one section for each head (so I can multiply all those by the number of heads I need) and another section for anything else, as I cannot quite discern for a system with a certain number of heads how to order the different quantities.

Thanks! If you missed it, this was part of my full conversation on thegrassfactor Thirsty Thursday Podcast. Barely used any herbicides. Hand picked weeds, triclopyr once in spring. Quackgrass was controlled by mowing at 1.2" and it blending in with the lawn now. Mow low! Under 1.5" no herbicide and it is much more in control and less noticeable, especially under 1.2". No herbicide, but if I do a full renovation I'd use fusilade ii with glyphosate and fallow for at least 30 days.

Hey so I'm told you have some experience with fine fescue. I'm in Utah and we've had a very hot year. The fine fescue next to the sidewalk that happens to get full sun most of the day checked out and went dormant once we stayed in the 90 degree weather for more than a week. It won't wake up no matter how much I water it. Is it entirely temperature dependent?

    • @EaveeDoesIt
      @EaveeDoesIt 2 ปีที่แล้ว

Yes, soil temperature will be the biggest change, but will also need adequate moisture. The actual type of fine fescue matters a lot as well. Hard fescue will do better in more full sun conditions, along with withstanding drought.
