I enjoy building and flying drones, as well as some gaming
I love to build drones nearly as much as I love to fly them, but I also love helping the community. I run a free site for opening a trouble ticket with RC Aircraft located at:
www.droneshotfpv.com
I love to live stream, and used to stream games on Twitch and TH-cam. I still do / will occasionally, but I want to create videos again. Lately I have had a real passion for Japanese Chef knives, as well as sharpening them with Japanese water stones. Lately you will find content related to that as well as forging and creating knives of my own!
Want to help support the stream / channel? You can donate here:

Is the ALTSTONE Fukami Whetstone just a Suehiro Cerax rebranded? Lets find out! ALTSTONE FUKAMI 1000
🎥 In this video I test out my newly acquired ALTSTONE Fukami Japanese Whetstone I bought from Amazon, and see if it is basically a rebranded Suehiro Cerax.
The company that sells this stone, ALTWAYS, Is a distributor for Suehiro, not to mention the ONLY Distributor who sells the Suehiro Maido (according to information I found while researching). So this would lead me to believe that answer just might be yes!
This particular stone is the ALTSTONE Fukami 1000, and it is a great stone even if it is not a Suehiro Cerax. It comes with a stand / non slip mat to set it on as well as a nice sized Nagura! For the low price it goes for, you can't go wrong.
▶️ I am running a continual giveaway for subscribers of the channel. The first giveaway will be at 500 Subscribers, then 1000, 2000, and so on. Only requirement is to be a subscriber!
▶️▶️ On this video I am doing a Christmas giveaway.. All you have to do is subscribe and comment and be entered into a drawing for a free knife and a Whetstone, don't miss out!

Sharpening a Yoshida Hamono Aogami #2 Sujihiki with Japanese Natural Stones - JNATs

🎥 In this video I refined the sharpened and refined the edge of my new Yoshida Hamono / Kyusakichi Japanese Sujihiki knife. I started with my Vigorcraft (made by Naniwa) 1k stone, then used my Tanaka Kyoto Tanba Aoto (between 2000 and 4000 grit roughly) then followd by my Kiita Aiiwatani Koppa Tomae, which is a harder stone. 🎥 In this video I "fix" a line cook / chef knife from the school's kitchen I work for. They have neglected these knives and mostly use what appears to be pull through sharpeners and steel rods to "fix" the edge. These things are in rough shape, so I brought one home to express what I can do for them. Using the Shapton 320, King 1000 and a strop with 0.5 micron compound, I repair this edge to ra...

Favorite Stone. Naniwa Chosera 3k. Progression. Shapton glass 500 double thick Naniwa Chosera 800 Arkansas Surgical Black. I am only doing german kitchen knives and butcher knives
I actually want to get the Glass 500 Double thick, I just have the regular size, which is fine, but I just want the big one! lol I also want one of those Arkansas Black Ultra fine stones. I need to order one!
This is a great stone, and as you can see it not only cuts fast, but doesn't load up like crazy, which is a HUGE plus! What do you guys think? Don't forget to subscribe and comment to enter the giveaway!
I don't think i have tried vitrified stones. Not that i know if i have any and don't realise. Are you give aways overseas? That would be cool.❤❤❤that looks like it cuts fast. Interesting. Have you tried there 3k Altstone fukami?
So for vitrified stones, all the Suehiro products you mentioned are considered vitrified. Vitrified essentially means the abrasives are bonded together through a high-temperature firing process, "melting" them into a solid piece / structure. Yes, I will send a give away overseas as long as it abides by the country rules for the region. It will of course ship slower than it would in the United States, but I don't want to exclude any of my viewers! 🙂 This stone does indeed cut very fast, I was absolutely impressed! I can't remember if my Cerax cut this fast or not.. I need to get my Cerax out and do a side by side and see. To be fair this particular German Steel, X50CRMOV15 isn't like 60+ HRC, it's more like 56 - 57 HRC, but still, it cut pretty quick! I have notyet tried the Fukami 3k, but I will go ahead and order the rest of them now that I tried out the 1k, as I was impressed. I will of course make a video on the entire set!
Sweet! Great video. Very informative. @@DroneShotFPV

Have you tried stroppy stuff diamond spray. Compound. His strops look pretty cool aswell.
I have tried stroppy stuff. I like it a lot, but my absolute favorite is Jende Industries Diamond Emulsion and their nanocloth strops. I used one in one of my videos, and I do plan on using it more often, but I like to save it for my Carbon Japanese knives. Not for any specific reason other than I am bein g a strop snob with my Japanese knives lol. I tend to swap back and forth from leather to the Nanocloth. I need to revisit stroppy stuff for sure!

Thats Massive! Does the 400 wear quick and dish? Thats good value for its size.
So this King 400 is vitrified and very hard. It does not dish quickly, so it's super slow to dish, and this particular stone would most likely last a lifetime. I don't think I could wear this stone down for many, MANY years. 🙂
What was this called? Just king 400? What cuts Quicker the 300 or 400?@@DroneShotFPV
@@jasonedwardledburynewzeala9897 This is the King deluxe L400. The 300 and 400 are pretty similar, personally I can't tell a huge difference between the 300 and 400, but the 300 seems to slightly work out chips a little better. Thank you for that video. Wanted to get some information about the stones, but could not find any. Very nice video!👍
My pleasure, one of the reasons I made it, because not much available. Be advised there is a revision launching this month to further enhance these stones. This was their first ever Whetstone creation like this, and it's still in the "learn" phase. The second batch should be even better than these. The current lineup aren't all like the ones I had, I just happened to get a somewhat softer set, but it still sharpened very well and polished amazingly in the end. I will do a follow up with the new set, which Sharpal will be sending me.
I am more into harder stones. I started with DMT Diamond and bought the Spyderco Medium and Ultrafine later. These are amazing. No dishing, no water needed and will last a lifetime, if you don´t drop them. I ordered the Sharpal two sided Diamond plate now. Especially for knives which need a new Edge or are really dull. Somehow i saw this Whetstone Set and could not find information. Looking forward if you do a new video, with the latest Version...
@@jensebu78 One of the things they mentioned was the process, which is still young and being tweaked, should be producing a harder stone than it is currently (some are harder than others, they are refining) . I shoul dbe getting them in a week or so, and will upload a video then! Also, the Diamond PLates they make are absolutely fantastic. I am about to upload a video in a day or two on their diamond plates (the 8" x 3" variety) where I repair and edge and then apex it back to normal. Excellent and even abrasive distribution throughout the whole plate, and when used properly without hardcore grinding with tons of pressure, will last a long time. I will be giving away a set of the Sharpal Whetstones and some knives at 500 subs, so if you wanted to be a part just subscribe to the channel and you will be entered automatically! I will also do random giveaways from time to time for all subs too just for kicks and to give back to the community.

I use the Sabitoru Rust eraser to clean my stones, but I also use an Atoma 400 grit Diamond plate to flatten them. Here is the Amazon link to them. And thanks for the compliments! shorturl.at/92uNG

@@DroneShotFPV I have sent you an email to discuss further
@@DroneShotFPV I have answered your email
Has anyone had one that had a weird high pitched squeal? Mine does. I’ve unplugged it a few times and reset it, but last gig it did it and would t stop. A high pitched whine. Thanks!
Let me ask you this, the high pitched squeal / whine, does it slowly fade out after you unplug the pedal? Try this, plug it all in, and get the squeal to happen, and ONLY unplug the power from the back of the preamp house. If it slowly fades out as the power is leaving the unit, it would sound to my like a bad capacitor. A bad capacitor would be an easy fix, but these boards unfortunately are all typically SMD instead of standard components and finding / replacing it would require the ability to solder SMD to a surface mount board. I would say though lets start there and see what happens and reply back and let me know. I will see if i can help you!
@@DroneShotFPVthanks. It stops completely when unplugging just the pedal. I worked for Line 6 and it sounds like digital artifacts. I’m gonna email the kids at artist relations see if they will send a new one. Thanks for your help!
@@brianlowe631 Nice that you worked for Line 6! Loved my Helix, wish I never sold it lol Hopefully you get it straightened out. Side note, there is a firmware update for the preamp house, you might give that a shot and see if it fixes anything. May not work, but worth a try anyway!
@@DroneShotFPVyou rock man. That was a good demo btw. I’ve told tons of people the CABBOX is definitely a must have. While this was more to show off high gain, I use mine in a lot of country and pop gigs as well. The comment by the person who owns two twins was silly. When I use a tele I have no problem getting a twin sound. And I too, have owned some twins. You done good man.
@@brianlowe631 I appreciate that! The CAB BOX is an amazing tool they have created. I use it on a ton of live stuff where I plug in to FOH (ampless stage) and it legit helps dial in the sweetness. I was running a twin CAB BOX setup for a while for stereo outputs. Yeah I don't get what dude was saying, but to each their own I guess. lol Yeah, it's a High Gain monster which was it's intended design, but as you said, you can dial in some good other style tones. Did you get the firmware downloaded to try? If not, or it's gone or whatever, I have a copy saved I could upload if you ever were in need.
I try to make it a raw, unedited video complete with mistakes and screw ups. I like to show the "honesty" in my videos like this. There were still some burrs on the knife (confirmed afterwards) but I will redeem this knife in another video, it's a great knife for the price! Let me know what you all like in the comments, and subscribe to be entered to win a knife or a stone!
My man! Sharpening is good.
Definitely love sharpening!
Great job! Kinda off topic but you seem to me like an INTP personality lol (like me), if you're interested u can learn about it more in CSJoseph youtube channel
Thank you! I will have to look up what INTP personality is, I will check out the channel.
So I looked it up, and if INTP means Introverted, iNtuitive, Thinking, and Perceiving that's interesting. I started life being extremely introverted, but as soon as I "found myself" I came out of my shell and loved being the center of attention / in the limelight. I have struggled with weight loss my entire life, and 14 years ago lost 120 lbs on my own. I felt "human" again. Lately, over the last couple years I have been recovering from a car accident, and put weight on again, but didn't lose "me". I am extremely intuitive, I over think to the point that sleep escapes me most of the time or I get up early (like today lol) and I am extremely perceptive as well. Very interesting you were able to pick that up from my video! I am now deep diving into this and watching these videos. Thanks for watching my video and seeing this and recommending the CS Joseph channel!
Sorry for the low volume, I will fix in subsequent uploads! What are your favorite inexpensive Whetstones and Knives? What are your Favorite expensive stones and knives? Side note, when talking about the Shapton stones I have, I said "pro" twice, and meant Shapton Glass for the second listing! lol Giveaway details will be posted in the next video! Side note, It really sucks I dinged the edge at the end, but it's great content to show the "imperfection" as I could have edited that out, but leaving it and showing the strop "fix it" for the most part is a great part of learning to sharpen and all the tools available!
Hey man, great review. I plan on doing one for the country/Americana rock guys. I’m like you. Love this. The Cab Box though, is a huge improvement…competes with any modeler, and I worked for Line6. Great job man.
I agree, the CAB BOX is an amazing tool, and not a bad price as you can find them cheaper than "normal" retail on Amazon all the time! I have played with the FLAMMA FS07 as well, and gotta say I love that little guy too. I prefer the CAB BOX for many features and what not, but the individual blending and ability to delay the feedback of the cabs (you can dual IR with different IR's in the FLAMMA) is a game changer for certain things! I planned on uploading at some point another shoot using the FLAMMA and the Preamp House. I will keep an eye out for your vid man, and thanks for the positive feedback!
Are you interested in Indonesian natural Whetstone?
Hello! Greetings from Argentina, nice vid and nice playing :). Could you explain how is the correct way to switch between presets? what is the special tweking you have to do when switching amp models for the unit to change to that instead of the saved one? I did not find your new upload video
My apologies for the late reply! From the person who designed this pedal with JOYO, you must first change from channel A to channel B... Once that is changed, then swap the AMP type you want to use. Once you have changed to that new AMP type,. switch back to channel A, then it will load the AMP type you selected and the factory default presets. You must do this each tim eyou want to change the AMP type, or else it will stay on whatever distortion type you chose to play with initially.
@@DroneShotFPV thanks! Really good info
@@MG-jk8ez Anytime!
Why is the gain all the way up all the time? What the secret 😊?
For this system, when switching presets the gain , treble, mid, etc settings do not matter UNTIL you first move them. So , example, when you change from one amp model to the next, there are "default" settings which are currently being used. Once you change either the gain, treble, mid, bass, etc, those defaults are now no longer going to be in use, and whatever you change the dial to will be used. So even if EVERY settings was turned all the way to max, when you change models those settings are not valid until you start mak8ing changes. Doe that make sense? if not I can try to explain it differently. By default though, these are "High Gain" amp models, so they naturally will be used with gain, but what you are hearing actually has a LOT more gain to use on tap.
AND, ive owned many other pedals that are supposed to only work a certain why and if you mess with most of them enough you can stumble upon a work around method...ive had that happens many times. I have all 9 preamps saved in the all 9 different slots and they are all edited and saved to my preferences....I cant explain that any further...Im really tired of watching demo reviews on this pedal and everybody thinks it works and edits and saves differently so it is what it is. AND if the designer built this preampp to ONLY be able to save and edit ONLY just ONE preamp model no matter what then this is the worse preamp pedal ever designed and sold to the public !!!
You are wrong, unless there was some firmware update that came out... But I guess the person trying to find information by looking at videos all over knows more, because magically he just does.... Sorry pal, these are designed and limited by hardware, not software, to behave a certain way. there is only so much memory to allocate for saves, so unless you MAGICALLY multiplied the memory chips, and then found a way to slot the saves and call them PER pre amp, (which you didn't) , then what you are experiencing is just a delusion. Know why I know this? Because I build hardware like this, and have disassembled this to see what I could do with the internals. You "can't explain it further" because you truly don't have a clue from the engineering side of things, but I do... so you are 100% INCORRECT in what you are saying. and I wish there was a way to do what you said, I truly do, because I would love to save settings per preamp, but you cannot, end of story. Go ahead, tell JOYO you found a magic keyhole in their engineered hardware, and see what they say. Lets go ahead and see your examples, uploaded, RAW and unedited... or is that too hard to explain also? One other thing, any particular reason you are deleting your messages? Something that you need to hide? I screenshotted them for reference at least!
One other side note, how strange is it that you live in Southern Illinois and I do as well?
My results after purchase were less than favorable. I sent it back. If I need to use a cab sim box too then it's too expensive for what it is. And I own 2 real Twin reverbs, this is nowhere close. Sorry.
Everyone has their own preference, but if this was purchased as a twin reverb fill in, then the reason for this unit was missed. This is for the High Gain seekers, and those looking for a more "heavy / hardcore" sound. And yes, having a cab sim box of some sort, even a free one on your computer makes a WORLD of difference, as there is a single CAB sim built in... Variety is the spice of life when it comes to matching cabs / cab sims to pedals / amps / amp sims.
Just got the preamp house pedal today and have the cab box. I love that combo. I also have the king of kings to use as a boost for the dirty channel and a bit of gain on a clean channel. Are you using the effects loop of the preamp house. I actually found it nice to run the time based effects from the output of the preamp house and then into the cab box. Still playing at the moment but love the sounds I'm getting from both those units. Where do you get your IRs from, I'm interested in checking some others out for the cab box. Thanks :)
I do indeed use the FX loop for time based effects, it rounds everything out very "amp like" and sounds great! I have ALWAYS been one to put delay, chorus, delay, etc in the loop of anything I am playing because for whatever reason I can NEVER get them to sound like I want straight in... I am probably doing something wrong, but the FX loop is great for me. I typically get my IR's from Glenn DeLuanne (I think I spelled that right lol) Choptones, CAB IR (Extremely top tier IR's, and of VINTAGE super awesome sounding gear too! IT gives you Neutral, Pushed, Room, etc type IR's to choose from in each cab, as well as an IR of each speaker per cab, or all mixed, plus ambient and room variants of each individual speaker plus mixed, etc. Super high quality stuff!) and ML Sound Labs. I have a slew of free IR's that sound AMAZING if you are interested in trying them out. I could zip them up and shove them to a Google drive for you to download if interested. I am glad you are liking that combo, once I saw that Preamp house come out, and I already had the CAB BOX, I was like "YES! This will work beautifully for an ampless rig!!!!" lol
@@DroneShotFPV Yep, I love this rig now. I have the Joyo Rechargable Power supply coming so I can also just grab my pedalboard and sit wherever I want to practice :) I'd love to check out some of those IRs, thank you :)

How did you find the onboard cab sims on the R15?
There is only 1 that is programmed into the R15. Instead of using that, I used my R08 CAB BOX and turned off the R15 CAB SIM in order to get what I wanted.
@@DroneShotFPV Thank you for the info. Do you know if the onboard sim is an eq filter or an IR? Many times the cab sim on less expensive pedals use a filter that’s just an eq switch and they tend to kill the sound rather than sound like a speaker (imo). Thanks
@@MatGurman My understanding is that it is a real IR, but I cannot attest as to which one it is. Most likely a V30 IR of some sort. It sounds pretty decent honestly, but I am a guy that loves to tinker, so I always go the route of into something like the CAB BOX or something similar. Any further questions, please do not hesitate!
Does the preamp house have a cab sim too right? which is better sounding, cab sim off on preamp house and use the cab sim on cab box or combine both?
The cab sim is fairly generic but usable. The CABBOX he using is worth the money. Amazing. Even warms up old PODs
Olá, onde coloco o Preamp House na cadeia de sinais, se eu fizer a ligação normal dele, sem que use o send/return? No meio, no final da cadeia, me dá uma luz mano, haha, abraço tmj 🙏🏻
It depends on how you are trying to use it. As an example, I plug my guitar into the preamp house, the output into the CAB BOX, and the CAB BOX into my audio interface to record. If I was playing live I would plug the preamp house into the FX RETURN of your amplifier. To help you further, what equipment are you using at home for this? I can send instructions once I know.

Nice review! Im planning to buy all if these. You have any left of thouse glorious Ir? Choptones etc Im into metal Zakk wylde and Also John Mayall bluesbreakers type of tones Johna mayer and SRV also!! More of this please
I do have IR's still, plus some AMAZING Metal IR's that will help you Achieve a Zakk Wylde style sound. Of course there are other factors, but speakers (or IR's) are a major influence in the sound we get, and these new IR's I have are even better than when I recorded this video! I plan on a re-upload in about a week with a new IR set, and a new perspective on these units, with some more info! Shoot me a message on TH-cam and I will hook you up with some IR's I recorded and some others. If you can't msg me on TH-cam, I will shoot you my email.
Can it plug into a physical guitar cabinet ?
This unit does not have a built in sound "amplifier", so plugging this directly into a cab will not work. You can however use things like a power amp pedal that can drive a cab and run this pedal through one of those into the cab, that would work just fine and I have done exactly this before.
So all the overdrives sound the same.mmmmm
If you read the comments and description, the creator of the design contacted me, and told me how to fix that. It has to do with changing the patches a specific way due to the how the save function works. I am actually in the middle of a reshoot of the patches to demonstrate this. It's actually pretty simple to do, but just moving patch to patch after a save will result in only the "saved" patch being the dominant patch.
@@DroneShotFPV Did you ever do a reshoot?
@@prometherion3089 I actually have. I have yet to upload it, as I wanted to add a few things that I discovered, as well as the difference between using the built in IR and the CAB BOX IR's that I love. I think it will be a great video! I am going to attempt to upload it within the next couple weeks as I edit it and verify for quality. Thank you for your interest!
can use that as a cab with other pedal?
Just to clarify, are y ou asking if you can use another pedal, like a Drive pedal for example, with this JOYO Pre-Amp House? The answer is indeed yes. The JOYO R-15 PreAmp House is designed to work with pedals. It also has an FX loop to use like a real amp's FX loop! What pedal were you looking to run with it? I can do another demonstration using pedals in the mix, and shoot a better quality video and cover those aspects if interested.
Thanks. Please do other pedals and amps...... Pete.
Do you recommend this over plugins? Frustrated with the dsp neural stuff and started looking at recording preamps or amp heads with outs for silent recording like the h&k, revv or new engl stuff.
I absolutely love this thing over plugins. I have a love for SOME plugins, my Helix Native is a good plugin, for example, but I love this thing, paired with the JOYO CAB BOX, which lately I have been loading with Hesu 2x12 and 4x12 cabs loaded with Demon speakers, as well as some ChopTones "Metal Pack" IR's, and these things paired together blow me away. I bought a second CAB BOX, and sometimes run a DSM Simplifier, or Walrus Audio MAKO ACS1 through the second CAB BOX, and get a stereo output, for a wet, dry, wet sound, and sounds killer! I also have used a second Preamp house though as well.. I HIGHLY recommend one of these, and if you can swing it, run it with the CAB BOX, and load your favorite IR's, tweak, and rock out. For gigs with a FOA connection, I will bring just a board with these on it, no amp, and just go straight to front of house, and they are amazing.
@@DroneShotFPV thx. Even for high gain tones? How about the strymon iridium, maybe thats more for vintage tones.
@@fredriksvard2603 The Friedman BE100 model on the Joyo preamp house is amazing at high gain, and again, matched with an IR designed more around High Gain amps (Mesa oversized, for example), this thing will just rock out and drop heavy tones. The Iridium, as you said, is definitely designed for classic style tones, BUT you can get high gain stuff out of it as well... For me though, and the price, the Preamp house is way more worth the "test run". Here are 2 pieces of tracks I hurried together not too long ago using the preamp house and the cab box, along with one of the new guitars I built. While these samples are MEGA gain, they are still only set at about 2:00 on the gain threshold of the JCM 900 model on the JOYO Preamp House. Let me know how they sound. @@DroneShotFPV Sounds like you know your way around gear lol. Think ill order one, i have some good ir:s, GGD, twotones etc. That's a lot of gain yes. I hear some fizz in the 2-4(?) khz range, you want some of it for texture but typically it's a harsh type of fizz with plugins. I'd tame it a bit with an eq myself, but it could also be that my speakers are harsh. I usually end up on the muffled side of things when i mix. I try to listen to it on various headphones etc, but as soon as i try to open up the sound i just get annoyed by all the harshness..
@@fredriksvard2603 The fizz on my setup was the mixer I had, and I didn't EQ at all (maybe that will help sell it as well, that it was just a raw "set it and forget it" vibe! haha Yes, I know my way around gear, I build amps, pedals, guitars, play, build boards, rig systems, you name it! lol If you want some IR's that I use, I would be glad to share with you, just hit me up and I will upload them for you.
Hi. Is normal that this joyo preamp house is getting heat up?
How hot is it getting? Also, is the WHOLE thing getting hot, or just a small spot? What voltage are you supplying to the JOYO? I have not ever noticed mine getting hot. I verified mine quickly, and it did NOT get hot. If it's getting REALLY hot, I would say there is either an electrical short, or something else happening, and would recommend a warranty replacement.
@@DroneShotFPV the temperature is like when using phone. I’m using 9v 2a adaptor
I just purchased this unit, some of the amp models are very impressive. I like the 900 and ENGL the most. One thing that should be pointed out about this pedal that it will ONLY save ONE clean and ONE dirty preset form ONE particular amp model. It will NOT allow you to save a preset from each amp model. So if you save a 900 preset on B, then go to ENGL and save a preset on B, the 900 preset is overwritten by the ENGL one. One preset for each A and B buttons, no saved presets for every amp model.
100% correct. Initially, myself (and many others) thought it would save "per amp" , but unfortunately it does not. I also had to edit my description, because it was discovered a pattern that was required when swapping amps, otherwise a saved setting that is made, will pass along to ALL models, and never actually change that model (i.e. saving an EVH tone to your liking, and not following the pattern, when swapping to the ENGL, lets say, it will still be the EVH with saved settings.) Kind of like a "clear" function. And of course, once settings are saved, if you swap to another, save those settings, your old save is gone for the previous model. While that IS a drawback, in my personal opinion, I am not going to probably swap amp models unless doing a demo anyway. Most of the time we find one we like and stick with it, which I think was their mentality. Thanks for the reply, and I am glad you enjoy your Preamp House, it's a great unit for an excellent price! Did you pair it with a CAB SIM?
@@DroneShotFPV Yeah, its a strange saving function on that Joyo, and they dont point that out anywhere. No, I dont use any cab sims or the cab sim on the unit, I run mine into the effects loop of either a Marshall DSL 20w or Marshall JVM 100w, out into a real 2x12 cabinet. I personally think it sounds best that way. I mostly use the UK 900 and the EG E645. That EG E645 into a tube power section sounds great from low to high gain.
@@danc3746 I definitely agree with the FX loop into a real cab sounding best, as that is going to be the best overall "real" feel sound for sure. I actually have 2 of them now, one that I loop into my Modded Plexi with FX Loop (Randy Rhoads Cascaded MOD, PPIMV MOD, FX loop ), but then have an "ampless" board that I use for venues / places I can't take big bertha (that's what I call the Plexi clone, it's 150w lol). I have since picked up more IR's that sound great with it, including the Hesu Demon CAB IR, and Orange CAB IR, and V30's, etc. While it's not the real deal, it's pretty good on stage with a venue that requires FOH for sure! For me, I LOVE the 900 model on there, but I would say my 2 top favorites, if I had to name them, would be the Friendman BE100, the ENGL, then a 3rd would be the 900 for sure.
@@DroneShotFPV I agree those are the top 3 amp sims on that unit, ENGL, 900 and BE100!
Hi - great video. I’m thinking of getting one of these to plug into the Flat channel of my THR10. Do you think this would be a good use of this pedal?
I think it would work, but what is your end goal? I ask because this pedal plugged direct into a mixer, or to FOH, or even just with headphones is great. I use it as an "ampless" rig for smaller venues, Church, and for the School where I work. If you need something to drive speakers, you could use the method you mentioned, or a variety of other small micro amps. If you have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask!
@@DroneShotFPV thanks for getting back to me I’m an enthusiastic but clueless guitarist with a THR10 which I love - it sounds fantastic even through headphones (which I use 90% of the time as I’ve got kids etc) However I’ve got a bunch of ambient delay/reverb/loopers/chorus-y pedals which I’d love to be able to pair with the “wall-of-sound” distortions of the amp itself but they don’t sound great as they have to go in front of the distortion channels of the THR10 (which doesn’t have an effects loop). So far, external drives and distortions have sounded terrible going into the “clean” setting of the amp My plan is to get the R-15 , as it seems like it can reproduce some great amp-like distortions of the type that im looking for , and run it through my other pedals into the “flat” channel of the THR10 ( “Flat response clean input for line sources, tone and effect controls allow shaping of non-guitar sources” as per the manual). But you’re saying I could play this direct into headphones!? I’m pretty much sold!
@@dantasia721 You sure can play it direct into headphones! It's essentially an "amp" in itself. It has a built in Cab SIM also, so it doens't just sound janky and rough. This pedal has an Effects Loop, just like an amp does, so those FX you have will go right into the loop! That's how I use it actually, with my Chrorus, reverd, and delay pedals, is right into the FX loop of this pedal for my ampless rig. In my years of experimentation I have found MANY pedals, such as verbs, choruses, etc, of certain type / brands do not sound good straight into the front of an amp... What's crazy is several of my guitarists I LOVE, use those same FX in front of their amps (according to what they say anyway), but I have never had great results, aside of 1 or 2 amps that it actually worked for. I need to revisit those tests to see what I can make work well in front of an amp (new video idea! lol) But yes, this would replace your THR completely, and be it's own unit. If you get a chance, down the line, buy a CAB BOX as well (in my video, that is what I use instead of MIC'ing a cab) and I put the output of the R-15 Preamp house into the input of the CAB BOX, and then either use headphones, or the Direct out to my mixer / front of house instead of using speaker cabs as well. You can load impulse responses, and I can get a sound that when I tweak it and dial it in, sounds like I am playing through a vintage cab!
@@DroneShotFPV This is really , really helpful. Ordering this bad boy tonight. Much appreciated.

For me every distorted sound sounds the same.Compressed like a hell by pickups.
Did you read the description? This was discovered after talking with the guy who invented this device. There is a SPECIFIC way to change the channels properly, otherwise every channel has the same sound. When I was testing this before making a video, I switched channels properly, unfortunately, until after the video I didn't hear that I had not switched them the same way.The amp in question that was heard through the entire video (aside of 1 of the others) was the EVH amp model, which is DEFINITELY more compressed. There was another video / audio uploaded with different sound samples to rectify this issue.
Hey man, can any of the clean channels do "edge of breakup tones" with gain all the way up perhaps?
Not that I have personally dialed in, as it's pretty much geared for Hard Rock and Metal, but in all honesty I never tried, I just used the clean as clean, let me try it later this morning (currently 5 a.m. here) and report back to you and let you know if I can get it to do that. I don't know why I never thought to try it in the first place lol Give me about 2 hours or so
@@DroneShotFPV no worries man. Anyway, even if it doesn't, I'm still gonna use an OD on my board stacked with a distortion going into the clean or dirty channel of the preamp. I thought i would economize the space on my board by not having the OD if the clean channels can do breakup tones

Hello! I have the nux mini studio and I'd like to use the cab IRs on it. The problem with the nux pedal is that it does not have a xlr out. I was planning on putting the nux mini studio in the fx loop of the joyo preamp house that way i could send it out to FOH via xlr out. Does that make sense or will it sound bad? Let me know what you think. Thanks!
YOu don't want it "in the loop" so to speak. The only way I have ever used a cab sim with the FX loop (I have the Joyo CAB BOX of course :-) ) is sending the FX SEND to the input of the cab simulator, and then from the cab sim to the FOH or where ever, but never "in the loop" as an effect. What you CAN do, is get on Amazon, and get the Seismic Audio 1/4" TRS to XLR out cable. They are about 1" in length, and allow you to have XLR out. I personally use this myself for ANYTHING like this that doesn't have XLR out built in, and it works for me. A guy claimed that it wouldn't work, after I had already said it's what I was using, so let me tell you, it works FLAWLESSLY for me. @@DroneShotFPV that's good to know. I'm probably not gonna play my rig live (covid related restrictions) but when i do, at least i have an option. So to recap it's guitar> joyo preamp house> nux mini cab sim> trs to xlr out> FOH.. does that add up?
