Dolmabahçe Mosque
Dolmabahçe Mosque is a baroque waterside mosque in Kabataş in the Beyoğlu district of Istanbul, Turkey, close to the Dolmabahçe Palace. It was commissioned by Queen Mother Bezmialem Valide Sultan and designed by the Turkish Armenian architect, Garabet Balyan in 1855
Dolmabahçe Palace
Dolmabance Palace, built in the mid 19th century, is one of the most glamorous palaces in the word. It was the administrative center of the late Ottoman Empire. After the foundation of the Turkish Republic, Ankara became the diplomatic capital. When Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founder of Republic was in Istanbul, he stayed in a small section. Later, this palace was converted into a museum.
Ciragan Palace
The Ciragan Palace was built during the reign of sultan Abdulmecit as an extension to Dolmabance Palace. it was designed by the Armenian architect, Nigogayos Balyan. The construction took about 12 years.
It was built for festivities which were held in the gardens known as Ciragan Festivals. This was the last palace built by the Ottoman Empire. Now it is a five-star hotel in the Kempinski Hotels chain.
Ortaköy Mosque
Located just before the Bosphorus Bridge. The current building was completed in 1855, to serve as the Grand Imperial Mosque to the Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid. It was designed by Armenian architect, Garabet Balyan, and his son Nigogayos Balyan, who were also responsible for the nearby Dolmabançe Palace.
The 1st Bosphorus Bridge
The 1st Bosphorus Bridge is the oldest of the three bridges connecting Europe and Asia. The construction was finished in 1973. The official name of the Bridge is 15 July Martyrs Bridge Turkish: 15 Temmuz Sehitler Köprüsü).
Arnavutkoy
Arnavutköy is on the nicest areas at the Bosphorus coastline. Arnavutköy is known for its wooden houses (Ottoman wooden mansions). It is a popular housing area where you will find many famous seafood restaurants. Arnavutköy has a multicultural history, the population was once of mostly of Armenian, Greek and Jewish. The Seaside Villas cost a fortune and worth more than 10 Million USD.
Rumeli Fortress
Rumeli Fortress is an Ottoman fortress built in 1452 to control the Bosphorus with a smaller one on the other side, Anatolian Fortress. Today it is an Museum with the same name. Yildirim Bayezit started to built this fortress in 1395 on the ruins of an old temple dedicated to Zeus.
2nd Bosphorus Bridge
The official name is Fatih Sultan Mehmet Bridge. It was built in 1988 to relief the traffic in Istanbul.
It is one of the closest points between Europe and Asia.
Küçüksu Pavillion
The name in turkish means "small water" (Küçük Su) was once a wooden Palace built in 1751. It was actually a royal hunting pavillion. In the year 1856 it was rebuilt in neo-baroque style built by the same Armenian architect who built as well Dolmabahce and Ciragan Palace.
Kuleli Millitary School
Kuleli Military High School is the oldest military high school in Turkey, located in engelköy, on the Asian shore of the Bosphorus strait. It was founded in 1845, by Ottoman Sultan Abdülmecid I.
Beylerbeyi Palace
Beylerbeyi Palace was the summer residence of Ottoman sultans. Built between 1861-1865 by the Armenian architects Sarkis Balyan and Agop Balyan in French neo-baroque style. Important foreign guests visiting the Ottoman Empire were accommodated in this palace during the summer months. #holiday #türkiye #travel
