This week we will focus on the second sign of Jesus, the sign of healing as we hear readings from 1 Kings 17:17-24 & John 4:43-54.
In John 4:43-54, Jesus returns to Galilee after spending time in Samaria. Upon arriving, He is welcomed by many who had witnessed His previous miracles. A royal official from Capernaum, whose son was on the verge of death, approaches Jesus, asking Him to come and heal the boy. Jesus tells him, “Go, your son will live,” and the man believes Jesus’ word and departs. On his way home, his servants meet him and inform him that his son has recovered. When the official learns that his son’s recovery coincided with the exact time Jesus had spoken the healing, he and his entire household believe in Jesus. This event highlights Jesus’ power to heal and His ability to work miracles, even at a distance, reinforcing the importance of faith in Him.
Together we will consider how the faith of the royal official in this passage challenges or deepens our own understanding of trust in Jesus, especially when we can't physically see the miracles or the answers we're praying for?
