Homemade instruments and music
Ganglat Fran Laggars
A ganglat is a Swedish walking tune. I learned this one for a Fiddle Tune Video Library challenge. It's in the key of D minor.

Upright Silverware Box Bass
มุมมอง 3325 หลายเดือนก่อน
I converted this bass to an upright for a friend to use. The adjustable foot came from a broken drafting table. pretty quiet acoustically, but sounds pretty good plugged into an amp.
Boys My Money's All Gone on Cigar Box Banjo
มุมมอง 1.9K7 หลายเดือนก่อน
This one's an old cigar box with a 6" goatskin head stretched onto an aluminum hoop. Cherry neck with hand carved friction pegs and Aquila strings.

Just messing around with putting an old time fiddle tune called Cold Frosty Morn into 5/4 time.
Stone's Rag on Whisky Tin Fiddle

An old one in the key of C with banjo uke accompaniment. Going for an old, scratchy, 78 record sound.
Fretless Tack Head Banjo.
มุมมอง 8189 หลายเดือนก่อน
Walnut pot, ash neck with walnut stripe, pre finished flooring for fingerboard, goatskin head. Tuned down around E modal since Aquila minstrel strings are what I had on hand. Cluck Old Hen is the tune.
Tune for Today's Solar Eclipse

I had this song about the sun stuck in my head today for some reason.
Gourd Banjo
มุมมอง 5909 หลายเดือนก่อน
I didn't make this banjo, just made a few repairs and modifications to get it playable. Turned out pretty nicely. The tune is Mole In The Ground.
Walnut Fretless Tack Head Banjo

I made this for a young banjojo player who wanted a fretless. Nylgut strings tuned approximately gCGcd. The tune is Spotted Pony.

3 String Fretless Wine Box Bass
มุมมอง 3.5Kปีที่แล้ว
I made this for a friend who wanted a 3 string bass. It uses the E, A, and D strings. There's a piezo pickup under the top with a volume knob. It has decent tone and volume acoustically and sounds great amplified. Merry Christmas, Happy Chanukah, Blessed Yule, and Happy Holidays to all!

Over a month late, but this is beautiful. I need to get back into banjo, I miss it. Used to finger pick, but clawhammer is so beautiful. God Bless you in Jesus's name!
@@Post-ModernCzechoslovakianWar Thank you!
Lovely sound and playing.
@suemacias667 Thank you Sue.
I’m impressed! Well done!
@NemoNepersonne Thank you!
Awesome! How is the skin attached to the pot? I’ve got a copper pot that would be perfect, but I don’t know how to tack the skin to it.
@RealPersonNotaBot Thank you. I used self tapping metal screws to attach the skin. They go into aluminum pots easily but haven't tried them on copper yet.
what was that bit you played in double c?
I was just doing a clawhammer pattern on the 3 chords that I mentioned. No actual tune, really.
Absolutely amazing

Good morning! I'm new to your great channel! Several years ago, you posted a video playing Del Shannon's Runaway on a 3 string cbg. It was one of my favorite songs, and your cover was excellent. Is there any chance you could do a tutorial on how you play Runaway? I build 3 string cbg's for friends and family.
@@davidspencer2333 Thank you! I'll try to make some time to do a tutorial on Runaway.
@morbanjo2503 Thanks much! I'm a retired guy trying to learn some 3 string and build some stringed instruments. I love seeing all of your creations!
@morbanjo2503 Also, I love that walkdown you did on your Runaway video, and the percussive fingerpicking.
@@davidspencer2333 It's been 9 years! I'll try to remember what I was doing and get as close as I can for a tutorial.
That's amazing 👏

@ADEker Thank you Andries! Good to hear from you.
Have youe ever thought about fretting one of your violins. A 13 inch ukulele template should do the trick. Violins are 12.9"
@itsclearasmud7718 I haven't tried that...yet.

@@bearshield7138 Thank you!
I can't pronounce it but i like it. ☮ What is the backup instrument?
@nealmont Thanks Neal. I'm playing one of my old nylon string classical guitars for accompaniment. I like it's bass sound.
Thanks for posting this! On a TH-cam recording of this tune by the jazz-rock/world music band Mynta, there is a note giving the composer as Christian Paulin. He is the (Swedish) bass player in that band. Their CD with this tune was released in 2009.
@wlcutler Thank you for that information, Wendy.
I absolutely love it! I would say I'll have it down before you make notation, but today a stuck peg from a much less than satisfactory luthier set-up caused me to rupture a tendon sheath in my left hand that will likely require surgery. You're my kind of people! Appreciate your inspiring work!
@@mitchellmartin5209 Thank you! Changes in weather have caused me problems with stuck pegs in the past. Ebony and maple stuck together expand and contract differently from each other. I hope your hand mends quickly.
Thanks!

That's a great one sir, also just asking, how do you get/make the banjo neck ?
@PajeroloverIND Thank you. I make my own necks using hardwood like maple, cherry, or walnut. I use a variety of tools to shape and sand the neck. This is an ukulele neck, but I do it the same for banjos. th-cam.com/video/TsgUdEOCwPM/w-d-xo.htmlsi=0L8x-qH-tf6-SQeX

@morbanjo2503 I'm learning electric guitar, and I'm working on this song. I grew up with Lonnie Mack's version on AM radio.
@@85rockhound Thank you!
@@85rockhound Cool! You must be around my age if you were listening to Lonnie on AM radio. Best of luck with your guitar playing.
hi that's a very nice sounding instrument, what's the tambourine scale?
It's a 10" tambourine. The banjo has a 25.5" scale length.
@@morbanjo2503 do you think that an old nylon guitar's neck would do fine? or there would be problems with the scale?
@gonzalor3560 A guitar neck should work. It would be much wider than most banjo necks, and you'd need to figure out a way to get the short 5th string attached.
@@morbanjo2503 nice ty!! greetings from Chile :)

Please how much does it cost and what is the name? Thanks
@GodsStoryteller These bottleneck slides are free with every cigar box guitar I sell.
@morbanjo2503 Thanks for the reply. I meant the cutting tool. Do you sell them? If not, can you recommend a good one please and help include the price? Grateful.
@GodsStoryteller Sorry, I misunderstood. It's called Dremel. That's a brand name. The one I'm using is an off brand, probably Harbor Freight, and is around 25 USD, including an assortment of attachments.
@morbanjo2503 Thanks for much. I improvised with something like a pipe, playing on my Acoustic guitar and truly, it's doing a pretty good job for now (I guess my bridge area is raised sufficiently, to enjoy the SLIDE sounds, but really I want to imagine the feel of a Glass bottle neck SLIDE. And there are so many empty bottles lying around here, wasting away. I will save up for one, soon. Many thanks for taking time to reply. Isn't it a good idea if you saw a selling out let, a link etc in this video, seeing you brought up their tools? Just mentioning. God bless you.
@GodsStoryteller Where are you located?
