My black copper maran rooster is a nice boy and brings worms he finds to his hens.

I adopted a black copper maran and he has been a nice rooster. But, we let our chickens out to free range at least a couple hours everyday and I constantly take time to pick our rooster up and to talk to him. In the beginning he was terrified of me and would tremble when I held him. No one imprinted with him before I guess. 5 months later and he doesn't tremble and actually makes his bock bock bock bock sounds while I hold him. I'm about to get a dozen more straight run chick's and I won't be keeping any roosters we end up with from there. I will try free to a good home on market place first and after that will be what I don't like doing.... if I keep competition for the ladies the mean rooster will win and that's not happening here. Our rooster Wally is the king here.

Might have to try this. Our mice aren't even waiting for the food to get low. They climb in, dig up to the top, and I imagine start swimming around like scrooge McDuck. Caught them jumping out when I went to lock up the coop.

Had a barred rock rooster that jumped at me and landed in the soup pot. I have a cuckoo maran rooster he tells me to stay away from the hens with his dance but never attacked. Had black copper maran roo was very nice.

The meanest rooster I have ever seen was a Black Jersey Giant. I know they are supposed to be gentle, but this one was mean both to people and the hens.

How was this video about fattening up a skinny cow? You mention they are on more grass than their previous home, okay. You feed them some, what appears to be commercial feed but you don't say what feed (ingredients) or how much per cow. You don't mention if you have a plan. But I appreciate that your video didn't drag on for an hour. I tuned in to see how to fatten up a skinny cow.

I am not an expert on roosters, but I suspect for aggressiveness/chillness is probably a mix of breed traits and flock traits (lineage and socialisation). Chickens learn from each other, they pick up good habits and bad habits. I don't have any BCMs. I do have one cross that is 3/4 wheaten maran and 1/4 white plymouth rock (she is my forever baby girl). I have a small flock of all different breeds because they are basically pets, with benefits. My cross lays a darker brown egg with speckles, similar to the one shown. The white plymouth rock genes must be strong, my cross has a buff/ginger neck frill, and white/buff body. She has only gone broody once. I do have a buff orpington, and she goes broody at the drop of a hat. If I got her a clutch of fertile eggs, she would be a top mother, her personality is chill and super friendly. Even when broody, she does not peck, just fluffs up and tells you off.

I have a question , why do all diy incubators except yours have lights on the top, heat rises, wouldn’t it be better to have on bottom? Honest question , please answer as I am starting one soon

What are you feeding the chickens if I may ask? I've tried Dumor crumbs but very often I find big clamps of blue mold in those bags. Whole corn they don't eat.

I have a Brown Leghorn roo named Yondu that is a great guardian of my free range mixed flock and very attentive to his girls. The only problem is that he absolutely hates my guts. He doesn't like that his ladies come running to me for treats or that I invade his house to collect eggs and clean/maintain. He has spurred me several times and drawn blood on a few occasions. He is relentless, despite many attitude adjustments that I have imposed. To some it would seem necessary to send him down the road, so to speak, but I have a certain amount of respect for the warrior mentality he exhibits. He acts like a little sweetheart to my wife which demonstrates his intelligence due to the fact that she loves him and wouldn't let me get rid of him if I wanted to. I also breed a separate flock of Salmon Faverolles. Faverolles roosters are probably the most docile roos I have ever had. My big boy Napoleon will chill out on my lap, even with the girls nearby, but as far as a guardian, he's more of a lover than a fighter. They make great pets, but will often run away from danger rather than put himself between a predator and his hens.

The Easter Eggers look like hawks and black chickens look like crows. A high contrast color chicken is spotted by predators. Air and ground. White chickens bring in the predators.

I grew up on a farm as oldest. All chores were mine, and have had best luck with flock raising from babies. Recently had to deal with very aggressive black rooster, (belonging to neighbor)and would try to run up on me from behind. I wasn't afraid of him, but got to point I was carrying broom around. He would literally see me across yard and come running at me, a got into batting position with broom. Rooster no longer with us.

Seramas are very sensitive and very small, even for silkies. They should be separate from larger chicks and need smaller crumble. I water my chick crumble down to help them eat. I would even put in a thermometer to make sure they are not too cold. I’ve only ever lost one. They are so different from ordinary chicks.

Fix the floor of the coop before they break their legs. 🙄

I've got a black copper boy that was a stinking handful for a while. He was wanting to jump me anytime I got in striking distance. And he was the sweetest of them all when he was young before the hormones came along. Took a while but he has finally settled down and don't have any problems with him anymore. His big brother was a huge help with that too. Rooty is my number one. Very thoughtful and calculating bird. But he covered my back when Chester was being so bad and kept an eye on him and would jump him and kick his butt anytime he started to make a move on me. None of them like to be held or handled much at all but still spoiled none the less. Rooty is in my face all the time wanting treats and insists that I bite almonds in half before giving them to him. Gets pissed and may even bite me if I don't. lol Not often I test him. That honker will pull a blood blister in a hurry. lol He did hit me in the back one time. I yelled at him before turning to face him. Thought it was his little brother again but when I turned to face him he backed up looking hurt. I sure was when I realized who it was cause I instantly knew why he hit me. He was protecting a young bird I had just introduced to the flock and it was screaming like I was killing it when I picked it up. Felt bad for yelling at Rooty for doing his job. But we got past it and I'm more mindful he knows what I'm doing with any of the other birds he watches over. No issues like that since. Got my hands on some Blue Coppers this year. Man I'm enjoying those birdies a pile too. Sure nuff beautiful birds, same awesome characters. That's my goal with the Marans, to wind up with all three colors, Black, Blue and Splash. On the other side of the fence I've got Self blue Ameraucana's, Boy that's a whole nother ball of wax but another kind of awesome bird that's a joy to have around.

I'm on my third hatch with a broody! Haven't lost one chick and have 100% hatch rate. She's sitting on 7 right now. Had 2 broodies from my first Gen welsummers and this current broody is one that hatched last November
