My Maternal Grandfather died long before I was born. And seeing Alice with Colton got me thinking how cool it would’ve been to spend time with him. I was disappointed 😢 when they went off the air with a cliffhanger. I don't like it when a show goes off with a cliffhanger. I do ❤ Travis and Amy.

I think Garai is the worst Emma, she generally gives the impression that Emma is a 12 year old trapped in a 21 year old’s body. She has none of the elegant manners and deportment Emma should have. She doesn’t move with elegance, she usually sits hunched over or slouched (with the occasional draping), and she makes a lot of undignified, unladylike faces. Also, Emma and Knightly (who also does a lot of slouching) are frequently shouting at each other. Harriet is (finally) appropriately pretty. Mrs. Elton looks a bit young; I think it works better when the viewer can see how close to the shelf Mrs Elton was at the time of her marriage. Other than Emma and Knightly, I can’t remember how the rest of the cast performs so I’ll have to rewatch. Paltrow is fine as Emma but just looking at those tight buns gives me a headache. I think Toni Colette was miscast, though. Harriet is supposed to be at least 4 years younger than Emma and *very* pretty; her beauty is the justification for her elevation by Emma, and Colette doesn’t have that. Mrs. Elton is great! Mr. Wood house is ok, but oddly jolly in parts. I watch it almost as often as the Beckinsdale version. The Anna Taylor Joy one is Ok, but the film seemed more concerned with showing off than developing the characters & story; Miss Bates and her precarious situation is neglected here. I take issue with how combative the Elton’s are with each other. Book Mr. Elton is mostly on board with his wife’s behavior, and when he isn’t, he gently tries to rein her in. Isabella Knightly is always yelling at John in this film, wth!? Mr. Woodhouse too boisterous, Mr. Elton is not handsome enough, and Elton & Churchill look too much alike. I also don’t like Emma’s involvement in Harriet reuniting with Mr. Martin, that’s a big change from the novel. Also, Emma did mot tell Knightly about Harriet’s being in love with him in the novel because he may have felt honor bound to marry Harriet, so why change that in the film? Badly done! Bekinsale’s Emma is my favorite. Emma is as ladylike and well mannered and attractive as she should be, but also shows how young in experience she really is. Emma and Knightly really seem as if they have known each other forever. Isabella is the right balance of loving wife & mother, and worrywort. John Knightly is the right balance of jerk, loving husband, and brother. Mr. Woodhouse is the right balance of hypochondriac, concerned & generous friend and father. Some say Mr. Knightly is too angry, maybe a tad, but not by much. I love Harriet, though still not as pretty as Harriet should be.

This is my favorite “Howard’s End” edit. The voice overs, which you utilize early on, are seriously ssooo effective here - with the SOS song in the background. I love this edit!
