We have a family of sandhill cranes at the airport that like to hang out on the runway. It's always a good idea to look out for them before landing. Plus it's fun!

The winds were 300 at 16 gusting to 21 so the short runway seemed safer today.

We had a snowstorm mid March and the snow was going to melt by the end of the day. Easy decision to wake up and fly before the sun came up. Kitfox S7 Super Sport with a Rotax 912is Sport on Summit Aircraft skis.
Steve Henry isn't the only one that can take off with the brakes locked

Of course when he does it, the plane is on wheels on dry dirt. Snow likes to get thrown up from the skis and freeze on the brakes. Then it freezes and you end up doing takeoffs without the wheels turning. Kitfox model 7 Super Sport at Burlington airport (KBUU).

First skiplane flight of the season in my Kitfox model 7 super sport. Snow was packed pretty hard this morning, so there was no feeling of "landing on a pile of feathers." Got to lay the first tracks at both airports though.

Just a landing and take off in the Kitfox at Cindy Guntly. Both the landing and the takeoff are uphill using runway 36.
Landing a Kitfox on a "short" runway (1000 feet long)

This is the short runway at Winfield airport. 1000 feet long. I don't want to fly over the neighbors so this abbreviated pattern keeps me out from above their house. I never do this with other people. This is one of the more sketchy things that I do in the airplane.

Kitfox super sport flying down the Wisconsin river (at a FAA appropriate altitude) I especially like the looking down shot and seeing all of the birds flying around by the sand bars.

Kitfox Sketchy Takeoff With Strong Crosswinds

This is out of Merkle Field. When we landed, Dubuque was calling it 10 gusting to 19 at 30. Runway is 36. A gust managed to get the airplane into the air before it was ready. We had to touch down again with the left wheel briefly.

I figured between actually being at an airport and landing there right after the pass, I'm fine. Those cranes don't want to move and sometimes I have to use the other runway just to avoid them.
I think that was a very cool video I'm sure a lot of pilots would be challenged to do what you did . Thanks for the video.

Late start this yr up here in northern Mn. Most of the snow is gone now that we got. I have my Kitfox 4 on skis. @@rocketman2tm
This reminds me of a Honda Civic from Florida that I followed on ice-covered roads with rear wheels locked for almost 5 miles.

That Kitfox didn’t need a 1/4 mile takeoff run.
Wasn't a quarter mile but we were heavy and with the wind gusts, I wanted some buffer.

That is the exact grimace-face everyone makes on their first landing at the UL field! It is a challenging approach and landing! You did great!! Wait until you try the other direction! Blind turn to final at the tree-tops, just at stall speed, landing down hill...

912is sport, Dynon Skyview on the left, random android tablet on the right, standard wing, Oratex, 8.5 x 600 desser aero Classic tires, grove gear, Whirlwind 72 inch prop, earth x battery. Empty weight came in at 821 with a full header tank and unusable fuel in the wings.
