It's hard to move on sometimes. You get "settled" into an area. You've got the house, the neighborhood has a "nice" uniform look to it (Brigham Young planned things out with style and a sort of rational order) It's easier to stay and try to rationalize. I finally left. But I was still single, and I didn't have a wife and kids with me at that time. I had even gone so far as to become a long haul truck driver -- as a means of escape. I "loved" Utah. I told myself that all of the time. But I actually loved leaving behind beautiful Utah and going on a long cross country trip. I loved interacting with "normal" non-LDS people. I saw the Amish and Menonites in the midwest and so many of the other religions and cultures across the US. You can't imagine how good it felt to finally be past all of that. Those "conflicts" are a thing of the past for me now. I can enjoy a cup of coffee here with no quilt or self consciousness at all. And I can see that there is so much more to life than "fighting" Mormonism (On one level or another -- in my own mind..). For me it was a prison sentence.

I read this book in a day. I couldn't put it down.

I have read the book twice and enjoyed it all over again. The first time I read it, it took me a week. The second time ,it took me 3 days. my mother read it it took her 1 day.
