Car-Port of Newcastle! First car carriers enter Newcastle Harbour following government approval.
Port of Newcastle (PON) welcomed the first car carriers to the port over the Christmas/New Year 2023/2024 period following Department of Agriculture, Fisheries and Forestry approval as a first point of entry port in October 2024.
2,500 passenger vehicles, along with parts for agricultural and mining equipment, have recently called Newcastle home, complimenting the Port's existing service for high and heavy cargo, which takes advantage of PON's superior access to the national rail and heavy vehicle network.
Alongside a container terminal and our Clean Energy Precinct, vehicle imports are one of the core priorities of our diversification strategy, which aims to create the Port that our community, our region, and our state needs for the future.

    Great to see the Government investing in the Newcastle region. This is especially valued when the projects are long term and adding value to the local economy. As the transition from conventional fuels to zero or lower emissions occurs over time, there must be investment to substitute the activity in our ports and regions.

    Thanks to the"slaves" called SEAMEN who DO the actual heavy lifting for us, & Australian economy. Yet often underpaid, no shore leave, frequent abuse during their "contract" No wonder NO Australian seamen are left. Too hard.
