Ep. 335 - Let's Do It Again (1975) Movie Discussion
Helen Morse, the French teacher, was very popular down here for a mini series called A TOWN LIKE ALICE with Bryan Brown. Bryan you would know as Luke O'Neill in THE THORN BIRDS, Meggie's husband.
This is for those who don't need everything spoonfed to them. It is mysterious and haunting. The Victorian bush is virtually another character in the film and it holds its cards close to its chest. The rock, nature, will not give up its secrects easily. I love that there are no easy answers. I love that we don't get stuck in the mundane nitty gritty of what-happened-to-everyone-at-school after the disappearance. That would have made it a completely different film.
I would put a big plastic tent around my house if I lived in a dust bowl! A great movie! David Carradine was one of the top actors, and he showed his skills. Yes, the first part is drab, but the authenticity of the atmosphere was elating, to me. Like 'To Kill a Mockingbird'. I got that southern vibe of Americana. I think this is a movie that us boomers can better relate to.
When will this show continue? Still waiting for new episodes. Thanks
I understand the reaction to Hepburns character, especially if you haven't watched a lot of screwball comedies. One to watch to get a better feel for the genre is My Man Godfrey, a wonderful Carole Lombard film that sets the bar for screwball comedies.
The real recipient of the letter was likely Antonie Brentano but it isn't as Hollywood a choice as what they went with, which is such an insult to his morality. Too much of this movie is absurd despite how great Oldman was in the role even though the writing is often silly. Hollywood just can't get Beethoven right, Ed Harris' attempt included.
I believe it is, "Je ne pourrai jamais vivre sans toi."
Yes, the scene where they were first sleep together and he loses his virginity, was his idealized version of how it went in his head.
I agree with you guys, I like a good war flick but this on didn't stick. 🌲
Repressed kid, overbearing father forcing him to single focus... *electroshock therapy*... isn't that enough?? There's a reason we don't shock peoples' brains these days (especially with the limited knowledge they had back then).
This podcast feels the same as the chet and otis'book club.
It’s sad this is one of the greatest movies ever and you both can’t see it…
Has this the lyrics... One day ill climb the mountain Throw stones against the sky And cry out god is dead Once more before i die. Desperately trying to find that movie. 😶
In reality, because the "immortal beloved" was never found, Beethoven's estate was left to his estranged nephew, Karl
I was honestly floored when you said it was terrible. This was well-received by critics at the time, with some ranking it high on their favorites of the year list. I have always considered this to be one of those hidden gems that I'll recommend to people, who all seem to love it. Maybe not Lumet's best, but still a really fun little courtroom comedy. Baffling opinions here.
Worthless video very boring. Yawn.
You shouldn’t be reviewing movies if you can’t recognise the greatness of the verdict.
They’re playing disabled people, I don’t think there was comprehension of that because they are both hot
Half of you is right. This movie is GREAT.
Should see the sequel. Barbeque at Mount Disappointment.
Miranda is the villain. First she tells Sarah "would you like to meet my family." Then 2 seconds later she says "you have to learn not to be so dependent on me Sarah. I might not be around." Sarah ends up paying the price for the disappearance. She's a misfit. Miranda embodies the corrupt ideal of womanhood fo settler colonial Australia on "stolen land."
My friend didnt understand why they made D&OIBH. 😅
The 14 Sonata (which is wrongly called "Moonlight Sonata", the real "Moonlight Sonata" was written by Claude Debussy almost 80 years after Beethoven's dead, the name "Beethoven's Moonlight Sonata" was given for a music critic 5 years after Beethoven's dead), it has three parts (movements) and the most famous is the first movement of the sonata.
Thanks. This movie is both fun and somewhat a thriller.
sorry you're friend is bad at watching the big chill. it happens
Kyoko is an Android/Robot, too.
"The Long Goodbye" is a masterpiece.
Yes, Smoke is a great film. Harvey played the owner of the shop. Stockard Channing was gorgeous.
It takes having lived with a serious mental problem in order to understand and relate to this film, have empathy for the characters. It is a brilliant and very healing film for those who have had these issues. Definitely one of the sweetest, most beautiful and lovely films ever made.
Exactly
Sam is on the autistic spectrum, as is Joon (on top of her PTSD and other issues). Sam’s special interest is silent film. He integrates it into every part of his life as a way of self regulation. He’s definitely not telepathic..😂 Joon was never “magically cured”, Sam and Joon had more of an understanding and a balancing of each other as neurodivergent people and so were able to live with each other and function as a unit in ways that neurotypical people would have a harder time understanding.
Hosts - Does the female opiner that is off camera know that she is inaudible while she interrupts the hosts?
Steel magnolias was released the year after this one.
Kirby was a distraction. In each episode u introduce yourselves then all of a sudden you hear about someone named Kirby I always have no idea what that guy is talking about. Who was Kirby. Is that why these shows stopped
1:25 is he having a stroke?
What happened to this channel and show. Was there a schism or spat. Did Kirby cause conflict. When will this show return
To explain about Meg Ryan looking different, she actually started to get plastic surgery and it was botched.
I remember the ending scene with Maddy on an exotic island and she looked so sad. I think she is thinking about how it’s such in her nature for her to have done all of this, it couldn’t have happened any other way.
I loooooovvvvvvvv the couch scene. I cry every time 🥹🥰
I loved stepmom 😅
Maalmal wickly
My favorite Woody Allen film
$500,000 in 1939......$11,000,000 today. You REALLY need to account for different times when reviewing films. And this film, The Sting, is entertainment, and that is what makes it so good. Poor review.
If you’re Australian it’s much more evocative. There is a special , almost spiritual feeling at some locations in the Australian bush and outback. Everyone I know ( whether Australian or not) has commented on it.
I remember seeing this movie as a little kid and it was eerie and did not understand it, which obviously in some ways is how it designed to be in style. Still, for some reason still makes me not want to visit Hanging Rock. I assume it around Mount Macedon somewhere. Probably only an hours drive but still think I will give it a miss...
Great review 🔥
With all due respect I can’t believe how much of this movie went over these reviewers heads. Sorry.
Rule 3.0.3
it was not a live tv movie it was a live tv play, but they are wrong on abc they had a live tv play of the cuban missile crises and it was called THE MISSILES OF OCTOBER
But the russians are really responsible because they decided to interfere with group 6 causing them to go to moscoe.
You both open your mouth and ignorance comes flying out! Yipes! Hope y'all don't have connections to the movie business.
You might like to check “Death of a Soldier”, a joint US and Australian movie made, I think in the eighties. An American soldier murders a number of women in Melbourne and subsequently the American military competes with the Australian police to try the soldier. General MacArthur wins this but is determined to see the soldier found guilty and executed.
